Chapter 201

Curtis sat up from his bed as he heard someone making noise. Beside the bedroom door the cambion, Chete, was leaning against the wall. A judgemental look in his eyes as he looked at the prince waking up from his uncomfortable slumber. It made Prince Curtis want to kill the half demon immediately. No he had stolen the throne from his father so he went by king now. He would never yield the throne to his brother when he found him. Curtis didn't care if others thought of him as a tyrant as long as he got what he wanted in the end.

"Sleep well, your majesty?" Chete asked without a hint of care. It would be impossible for him to put on an act in front of Curtis.

"Who let you in here?" Curtis reached for his sword. Tempted to cut Chete down where he stood.

"Wait, wait! I let myself in! I was wrong!" Chete panicked when he saw Curtis's movements. Understanding completely that the man was not against going through with it. He had barely gotten out alive from the torture Curtis had put him through last time he was at the end of his blade!

"I kept you alive because you'd be useful. Not because I am at liberty of pardoning your every action. You still haven't come forward with the location of the Dradel royal family that my father was hiding away." Curtis spoke in a cold tone as he sat up. Tidying up his clothes as he prepared himself to head out.

"I do not know where they are." Chete was not lying when he said those words. That was why Curtis did not refute him. They both knew that Chete was hiding something further.

He was a demon built around making deals with others. Putting his life before all else it was not possible for him to refrain from caving to cruel torture. Anything Curtis could gain from him was already obtained. Chete felt bad about the things he said in that dark place when Curtis had stood before him but he would rather feel guilt then have his life taken in such a way. That was why he was unable to plunge a weapon into Curtis right this moment. However he had a silver tongue. Making it difficult for Curtis to know exactly what it was he kept buried.

"What are you doing here so early?" Curtis wanted to know his reason for barging into his chambers without a warning.

"General Vulen has come to meet with you, your majesty. He says wants to speak with you." Chete relayed his reason.

"The Ice Queen's loyal dog has come barking for my attention?" Curtis's eyes had a strange look that Chete could not decipher. Is he upset about meeting with the general? He's not even speaking like a proper royal. No, don't question crazy people.

"You have a guest, aren't you going to meet with him?" Chete asked. Noticing that Curtis was not getting ready to head out for General Vulen.

"Why should I meet with him? I'm not the one that owns him." Curtis finally finished tidying himself up as he stepped out of the room. From behind Chete followed after him. The two of them heading down the long corridor.

"He is Queen Lyra's man. If you turn him away and not meet with him it could cause strife with her." Chete reminded him calmly. Plus if he meets with General Vulen it could be exciting to watch! He chuckled inwardly to himself.

Curtis exhaled as he stopped walking. Glancing around his surroundings he could see the servants all bowing respectfully to him. The fear in their eyes was overlooked by him due to the fact they did their jobs without question. Nobody had the courage to speak up against Curtis and kept to themselves as they worked each day.

They had seen all kinds of sides to Curtis that he had kept hidden over the years. He had become more outwardly violent to those who stood against him. It left servants in a state of fear. Whenever they saw him they could act respectful but in their eyes the only thing they saw was a demon lord controlling their fate.

"Where is he now?" Curtis finally spoke up after watching the servants scatter away from them so they couldn't be overheard. Nobody dared to be mistaken as listening to King Curtis's conversations.

"Waiting for you in the throne room." Chete replied instantly.

"You left him alone in there?" Curtis glared at Chete.

"Would you prefer I brought him along when I came to wake you up, your majesty?" Chete smiled in a mocking way as he spoke to him. No he had no hint of respect for Curtis.

Why should he feel respectful towards someone who had tortured him? This man killed his own family for power and proceeded to torture him. Chete healed quickly due to his demonic bloodline but he could still feel pain. He could still die. Since that left him more capable of surviving being tortured it had allowed Curtis to strangle Chete's life on a thin thread in ways that no normal human would survive.

"Enough." Curtis could recognize that look in Chete's eyes.

"You are a beauty, your majesty, but I am afraid General Vulen only has eyes for the ice queen.~" Chete chuckled under his breath as he spoke.

It was true that Curtis was a beautiful person. His long golden hair and blue eyes almost seemed celestial. The fact that he had been turned into a fallen by the god Chynir which granted him a pair of black wings he could bring out at will only felt fitting. He naturally gave off an angelic grace to others who looked at him.

Though your personality is shit. Chete thought to himself as he gleamed a desire to kill this man.

"Stop talking and just do your work. I have to go deal with this so I can prepare for other things right now." Curtis did not know how to respond so he chose to shut Chete's conversation down.

"Yes, sir." Chete responded. Watching as Curtis turned to head towards the throne room where General Vulen awaited his arrival. Hastening his own steps to follow after him. No intention to miss the meeting between the two. He had heard rumors of General Vulen just like any other person.

Curtis was not sure what the general had come to talk about. With many things going on around them time was not something they had to waste on insignificant matters. He had no major connection with General Vulen but he was aware of the man. Having met each other only in passing a couple of times since Curtis met Queen Lyra a few years ago.

Creeaak!

The throne room doors were pulled open as Curtis entered. He could see General Vulen kneeling respectfully in front of the throne as Curtis stepped in front of it. Around the throne at the other side Chete side stepped up to stand witness to their meeting. There was a gleam in his eye that resembled that of someone expecting a great show to appear before him.
