CHAPTER TWO

Olive! Olive, you have to get up or you'll be late for school," my consciousness slowly returned as I found myself in bed. Was it all just a dream? It felt so real, and I had been having similar dreams repeatedly.

"Olive, you need to get up," my mom shook me until I finally stirred. "I'm awake, I'm up, okay?" I muttered, still trying to shake off the remnants of my dream. I was certain that I had set an alarm to wake me up.

"Get ready as quickly as possible," my mom urged, giving me one of her typical impatient looks. Ignoring her, I made my way to the bathroom.

I untangled my black hair and tied it up in a bun, leaving a few loose strands to frame my face. As I finished dressing up, my honey-brown eyes sparkled with a hint of excitement.

"Olive, come down here. Stop admiring yourself; you always look pretty. Of course, you're my daughter," my mom affectionately nudged me. "I'm coming, mom."

"Dear, your teacher informed me that you haven't been performing well in your tests. Why are your grades so low?" My spoon clattered against the cereal bowl as I looked up at her. This was a conversation I desperately wanted to avoid.

"I think I'm running late, mom. We should go," I tried to divert the topic, but my mom wouldn't let it slide. "I've asked you a question, young lady. Stop changing the subject," she scolded, using her stern voice.Mom always calls me ' young lady' when she is angry. "I think it's those parties you go to and the bad company you call friends. You are grounded for a month. No going out no phone no laptop no playstation no headphones no tv no friends!" she spat.

"You can't do that to me mom", I almost cried, I couldn't imagine myself without my phone and laptop to add on my playstation. "It was only one or I think two exams that I got an F. You could never do this to me if Dad was here," I took my bag and stormed out of the house. I got to the car and closed the door. Why was this happening to me.

The whole ride to school was mostly quiet . I didn't feel like talking to her.

"Honey I know you are mad at me but it is for your own good. You are a very smart kid. In the beginning of the year you were not like this. I just want what is best for you okay", all this time I looked out of the window. Part of me knew that she was right but why did she have to ground me.

I got to class late as predicted. I quickly slipped to my seat, thankfully the teacher hadn't arrived yet. "Why are you late?"Summer whispered . " Just some mom trouble", I whispered back."I told you to get your own car or a chauffeur that way it would be easier,"

"Yeah I told my mom but she still wanted to drop me off herself,"

"Miss Johnes' am in class. Stop your chatter", I had hardly noticed Mr Tunner in class. I took my maths book from my bag and placed it on my desk.

When the lesson was up , Mr Tunner told me to meet up with him after classes. I wasn't sure what it was all about but I guessed it had something to do with my grades.
