Chapter 12

Renae woke up in her dark room, she looked at her alarm clock and saw it was two in the morning. Knowing she was only asleep for three hours, she got up and used the restroom and left the light on when she walked back to her bed. She sat down and stretched before she heard a knock at her door.

"Yeah?" She answered groggily, Braxton peaked his head in the door "What's wrong?" Renae shook her sleepiness.

"I heard something tapping on the window. I looked outside but didn't see anything. I tried waking your dad up but he wouldn't budge. I also wanted to know if you had anything other then that bat by the door?" He stepped a little further in showing the pajama pants dragging on the floor.

"Seriously? You have to grab and shake him or ring an alarm for him to get up. What kind of tapping was it?" She asked standing up.

"Come here." He motioned her to follow him. They stood at the guest room door and listened until Renae could hear the tapping on the window. Renae snuck over to the window and looked outside to see someone running away.

"I've had enough of this shit." She huffed as she ran into her room and grabbed her wind walker and a hoodie. As she pulled her black hoodie over her head she looked at Braxton "Stay here. I'll be right back." She put one finger over her lips and ran to the door putting her shoes on in a rush then running out the door closing it behind her. She ran to the outside of the window and saw a note tapped to the wall.

'Hey hot shit remember me? Danny? You broke my arm and my friends. We didn't get to finish what we started earlier. Because of you we got expelled, come meet me where you last trained. I'll be waiting. ~Danny'

She grabbed the note and read it as she walked back to the front door. She knew better then to go alone but her anger got the better of her as she crumbled it up and began running into the woods.

"Oh this is bad. This is stupid bad." Braxton said pacing. "And you, why is it so hard to wake you up?!" Braxton said as he poked Jarrod again. "Okay Brax, just get over your fear and do what Renae said." He let out a deep breath before he grabbed Jarrods arm "Sir wake up! Rae's in trouble!"

Jarrod jolted awake the second her heard the word trouble. "What? What trouble?" He asked sitting up in his bed.

"Someone was knocking on my window, you wouldn't wake up then I heard Rae was up so I asked her how to wake you up and if you guys had a weapon other then the bat in the livingroom and then she got mad and grabbed this tiny thing I think was probably a pocket knife then ran outside and told me to stay here." Braxton poured the words out as fast as he could as the two of them ran out the front door where Jarrod saw the crumpled note on the ground.

He read it quick as Braxton got his own shoes on and followed behind him. The two of them ran, Braxton right behind Jarrod.

Renae hid in the underbrush as she looked into the clearing. Twenty eight bodys filled the glade. She took the advantage of the camouflage to listen in.

"How do you know she's gonna come? I'm pretty sure that wasn't her room, the body in that bed was way too big." A green haired guy was speaking to Danny.

"Her room or not, she'll be here. We know she's not a heavy sleeper." Danny grabbed his collar and pulled him close to his face "Next time, get the right room jackass." He pushed him to the ground and walked towards a woman Renae couldn't quite see. Danny started to kiss her violently, not to her unliking. When Danny pulled away and she turned around, Renae felt her stomach flipped to see Lisa wiping her mouth.

"Lisa says that Renae's obsessed with getting the last word and punch in so we're guaranteed she'll show up. I want everyone on guard, whether I want to admit it or not, she knows how to handle herself pretty well. Let's take her out before she even gets a chance to see how many of us there are." After he spoke twenty people walked out into the trees, one narrowly missing Renae.

Renae stayed silent as she studied them, how they moved and how loud they were. Once Renae felt confident enough she crawled along in the undergrowth till she managed to get to about half of them, she used her windwalker to electrocute them enough to make them pass out, then she crawled to the next closest one. If she didn't know where they were, she closed her eyes and listened till she could hear them coming her way. She kept this up until everyone who scattered into the trees were all out. Renae watched the eight that were standing in the glade till she felt a hand on her shoulder, she got ready to swing till she saw it was Jarrod.

"There were about thirty of them. I got twenty or so of them knocked out and tied up. I was just trying to figure out these eight." She whispered as he lowered himself and grabbed his own wind walker.

"You should have woke me up." He growled to her. He handed Braxton a forty-five millimeter handgun.

"There wasn't a lot of time. If I had waited for you, I wouldn't have seen the twenty walk into the trees and we could have easily been ambushed. Why's he here?" She glared at Braxton.

"You ran off on your own. What did you think was going to happen? I made a promise and I'm going to keep that promise." Braxton whisper yelled at her.

"We'll talk about it later. Rae, get ready. Brax, you point that at anyone that comes near you or if you see me or Rae in trouble. I swear to the almighty if you shoot me or Rae, you'll be eating your own body parts when I'm through with you." Jarrod looked to the sky before returning his glare to Braxton, who swallowed hard before nodding his head.

Jarrod showed Braxton how to load and unload before he turned to Renae, she was holding her windwalker and was in a ready position. As soon as Jarrod nodded to Renae, the two of them ran out. Swinging the electric wind walker, Renae was quick to take down one after the other. Jarrod took care of the most of the rest till it was just one of the men he was fighting, Danny and Lisa. Danny took the bat he had in his hands and swung at Renae when he thought she wasn't paying attention, Renae, in her confidence, spun around and swung her windwalker at the back of Dannys head. She pushed his face into the ground as the wind walker continued to electrocute him. Jarrod was still fighting one man with a quarterstaff of his own.

"Nice to see my little girl again." Lisa laughed as she walked over with a makeshift sword. "You may have taken down our men, but you will come home with me. Home to the wolves." She smiled.

"What the hell are you talking about?" Renae shouted pulling her wind walker in front of her chest. Jarrod was able to finish off the last guy when he turned and looked to see Lisa and Renae standing off.

"Did precious daddy not tell you? The reason he has two classes at this school. The reason why you're forced to have to stay awake at night?" Lisa couldn't help but laugh.

"I don't want to hear any more of your constant lies!" Renae screamed as she charged and swung her wind walker. Renae swung as fast as she could but Lisa matched her speed fairly well.

"Don't play innocent Jarry, tell out little girl the truth." Lisa shouted as she dodged the swings. "Tell her how you fell in love with a wolf and how you yourself a vampire couldn't raise a half blood but the second you realized she took more after your blood, you took her away from me!" Lisa began screaming as loud as she could. Renae froze where she was in her fighting stance. Jarrod quickly took her place.

"Don't you say another word you vile woman!" Jarrod spat at Lisa as he swung his wind walker and clashed with Lisas sword.

"I will say what I damn well please!" She spat back.

Renae dropped to her knees, her wind walker falling to the ground next to her. As Renaes mind fought an unseeable battle, Jarrods own mind was running it's own tracks as he fought Lisa.

Jarrods POV

I never wanted Renae to find out this way. I didn't even know her mother was a were wolf till the day I had to tackle her. I thought she didn't know I was a vampire. That day, her eyes were glowing, a bright yellow I had only ever see once before, in a wolf. When I saw what she was, I jumped off of her.She lied to me about who she was, what she was. I was going to tell Renae everything, or at least most of it the night she was first supposed to joining the campus police but that attack, when she wouldn't wake up for a week.

When I took her to the hospital, I wanted to tell her Jones was a mythical creatures doctor but I knew her mind wouldn't be able to understand, especially after getting hurt the way she did. Jones was a friend a while ago so he obliged when I asked him to make sure not to tell her. I explained to Jones I didn't know what Renae was before David told me she was taking after me and being abused by her mother for it. Renae was lucky to take after me because I know how to help her, her sister wasn't so lucky. Renae also doesn't know Kelly was in the night class. The day class is consistent of children born to vampires and wolves get night class.

The reason for this backwards act is to guarantee each students understands how to survive as a normal human being. Wolves learn how to control themselves at night and vampires learn to stay awake during the day. A chemical mixture is able to give any vampire the full human effects without taking away any of our abilities. This serum was created about seven years ago. After my colleagues found out I was imprisoned, they helped me get out and two years later, I was, but in that time I was able to create the serum. Raes classmates and teachers all know she doesn't and can't know because I was able to explain it to everyone. That's why all the teachers have kept a close eye to make sure no kids decide to hurt her. So I was shocked to first see Braxton, but I was relieved it was him instead of any other kid.

Knowing what I did when Rae was first born, she was betrothed to Braxton, since they were twelve days apart in age. It wasn't my decision to have her have any kind of betrothal, when the councilmen in the bloodline review found out I had a daughter of my own blood, it was automatically arranged. Braxton always knew he was supposed to marry her but he also knew things changed when the incident happened. Now it's up to Renae on who she's going to marry, if it is Braxton that's a plus but if not then so be it. It's her choice now. Having half a ware wolf heart, well her heart is over strengthening the vampire will.

I was snapped out of my thoughts when she struck my chest with her fist. I still love the woman she showed me all those years ago, but she's not the same person. I hated it but she always had a lit cigarette hanging out of her mouth, now I know it was to mask her scent. Once I was out of the picture, she started doing hard drugs from what Rae has told me. I held my chest with disbelief that she'd ever really want to hit me. Her menacing grin shining bright confirmed she was not the same woman I once knew.
