Uchiha Fugaku was immediately furious:
"What did you say?"
Toki sneered slowly.
"Haven't you heard of the boiling frog analogy? And you, as the patriarch of the Uchiha clan, don't you even know how our clan's Sharingan evolves?"
Uchiha Fugaku froze, then frowned and snorted coldly.
"Hmph, of course I know. It's through cultivation."
Toki sneered:
"Cultivation? Are you joking? It's through battle! We Uchiha are born warriors, and we are also naturally tied to our emotions and our kin. When our emotions surge, the brain releases a substance that triggers the evolution of our eyes."
"Don't tell me the esteemed patriarch of the Uchiha doesn't even know this, something even the Senju clan are aware of."
Uchiha Fugaku was dumbfounded:
"How do you know that?"
This was knowledge he had learned from the Uchiha stone tablet after awakening the Mangekyō Sharingan. He had kept it hidden, fearing the clan might kill each other in pursuit of power. The Uchiha who remained in Konoha were those tired of fighting, not the ones who had left with Madara. As a result, the knowledge of unlocking the true potential of the Sharingan had been lost.
In Sasuke's generation, it was even believed that awakening the Sharingan was a mark of genius within the Uchiha.
The clan members below began to murmur in astonishment.
"Is that true?"
"So when I awakened my Sharingan, it was because of my teammate Ida's death?"
"Those fools in Konoha think our eyes are cursed, but we awaken them because of the emotional turmoil from loss. It all makes sense now."
Uchiha Fugaku hurriedly defended himself:
"I didn't want anyone to sacrifice themselves! Awakening the Sharingan means someone had to die. Is that really what you all want?"
Toki interrupted Fugaku sharply:
"Of course we don't want sacrifices, but we awaken our eyes to better protect our comrades, not to cower behind others."
"Isn't it obvious that Konoha only put us in charge of the Military Police, where there's no real danger? They're just biding their time, waiting for an opportunity to wipe out the Uchiha clan."
"If we were sent to the frontlines, the Uchiha would have a large number of Sharingan users due to the emotional and physical battles we'd face. Staying safe in Konoha as mere city guards means that in a few years, our clan won't even have many members with a fully evolved Sharingan."
"At that point, we'll truly be helpless, ripe for slaughter."
Uchiha Fugaku, now furious, retorted:
"You're just making things up! The Third Hokage has never targeted us Uchiha!"
Toki looked at Fugaku as if he were a fool:
"Then why are we being forced to relocate our clan? Are we really going to pretend that Konoha isn't targeting us?"
"Ever since the Second Hokage's reign, haven't we suffered discrimination? Wake up, Fugaku! Sarutobi Hiruzen uses Konoha as a tool to strengthen the Sarutobi clan, while you are using the Uchiha clan as a tool to serve Konoha."
"A fool like you isn't fit to be our clan's patriarch."
Fugaku's expression darkened. "How dare you!"
In an instant, his eyes turned red, revealing the three-tomoe Sharingan. But Toki wasn't intimidated and opened his own three-tomoe Sharingan to meet Fugaku's gaze.
Though he didn't have the talent for awakening the Mangekyō Sharingan, Toki had gained enough understanding of the Sharingan during the Third Great Ninja War to unlock his three-tomoe form.
As for Fugaku's Mangekyō Sharingan, Toki knew that Fugaku didn't want to reveal it, fearing the clan would force him to use it to control the Nine-Tails and stage a coup.
As long as Fugaku didn't activate the Mangekyō, the difference in strength between him and Toki, both wielding the three-tomoe Sharingan, wasn't too great. And with the support of the clan members below, Toki was confident that Fugaku wouldn't dare openly oppose him.
Sure enough, Fugaku's face darkened, but he retracted his Sharingan.
Seizing the moment, Toki addressed the clan members who were watching the confrontation:
"I don't believe Fugaku is fit to continue as our patriarch."
"During his leadership, our clan has been stripped of any influence in Konoha's political center. We've lost our land, and now we're nearly exiled from the village. Under Fugaku's guidance, the Uchiha have been reduced to nothing."
"So I propose we remove Fugaku as patriarch. I will lead us to reclaim the glory that rightfully belongs to the Uchiha!"
The eyes of the Uchiha below began to burn with fervor.
One of Toki's younger followers seized the opportunity to shout:
"Rebuild the Uchiha! Long live Patriarch Toki!"
As soon as those words rang out, the crowd joined in:
"Rebuild the Uchiha! Long live Patriarch Toki!"
[DING! Congratulations to the host for successful running for the patriarch of the Uchiha clan. The family training system has been bound.]
