After they left, with every counted step, Steven approached the bed until his knee reprimanded with the metal body of the hospital bed. A small knack was sounded, but he did not budge at all.
He bent down, wanting to see the sleeping face hard. But to no surprise, he could not. He widened his eyes and tried hard, still only a blurred structure with no particular details appeared in front of his eyes.
He raised his hands to her face, as he traced a strand of hair from there and tucked it behind her ear.
"I am so sorry!" He sighed in dissatisfaction, "For that I was not there to stop him while he was busy in approaching you."
He clenched his fists in frustration. he really did not think that Matteo would come to her on his own accord. He was not sure how they got close on their previous life, but according to his memory, even if they knew each other, still that happened pretty late. Atleast after a year from now, before his accidental encounter with her which changed their life thoroughly, especially hers.
And if he was right, she moved out around this time and started living by her own. But that caused her more trouble.
Later, according to what she told him, somehow everybody in her campus started believing that she was a sugar baby of some rich middle aged man. She met a group of socialites in a mall by chance and their encounter started the rumour of her seducing men and getting benifits.
That made her daily life like hell. When Mr. Adi Roy got involved to solve the issue, somehow the news got leaked and that tarnished her image more as his company suffered a huge blow.
Finally she got so depressed that she dropped out before the final semester started and could not complete her research proposal too.
Unfortunately that put a full stop to her career. By the rumours of her becoming Mr. Adi Roy's mistress affected their private life so much that even her mother started to suffer by severe depression.
Steven's breathing became heavier. In that life, on a different timeline, Mantisha and her mother, both of them believed on Adi as they thought his acknowledgement could put an end on this. Mantisha was still hesitant, so she went to Adi secretly and asked if it would be okay for him or not, but he told her that would still affect her mother in the end. She would be a laughing stock in the society.
That was indeed the case, but atleast they would have Adi's protection. But the idea of Sylvia becoming a laughing stock freaked her out, and she decided to bear the consequences alone.
Adi declared that she had nothing to do with his family and his relationship with Sylvia was stable. As a result, she never could raise her head and never could start a new, and Sylvia's trust on Adi broke.
Steven sighed in frustration. Though Adi's decision made him angry but he could understand. All his life, Adi had only loved Sylvia. Even if he adored Mantisha, if something occurred, Sylvia would always be his first priority. Just like Mantisha would be his.
Until that time, there was no mention of that bas*ard, nor was of that first son of the Blacks.
Thinking about him, Steven's furrowed his brows. Albert was her classmate on his last life too. Did he also approach her then? Then why did not she mention him at all? Or it was again an aftermath of him coming back to his past and trying to change the tragic fate.
If yes, then the incidents were bound to be happened later, would also be accelerated. A few of them was changing too. Thus that son of a jerk came to her so fast.
If this was indeed the case, then...
Steven's heartbeat almost stopped thinking about the consequences.
'It was a close call! Today, we managed to stop the car and this time, thankfully her legs were spared. I thought if I managed to stay alerted and avoid taking the drug and spending the night with her, he would not take the chance to claim it was him and propose the marriage with her. But it seems like I am wrong. He would not leave any chance to marry her in his own accord or worse, claim her his!'
'And this might happen anytime soon.'
'Sooner than I expected.'
But then again, why she was Steven ran his fingers through his hairs. All of these are driving him crazy. There was no clues, no proofs, there was only him with his oast life's memory but that didn't seem to be enough. He did not know every single details of those years, he only knew the results of their investigations and the details she told him. That was also thirty seven years ago, before she died and he lived his entire life in distress.
He had came back to his past self after committing suicide almost four decades later than that incident.
The moment he realised he had came back to the past, he got another chance to save her, live with her; he swore to himself that he would never let her go. But not knowing the little things were making situation hard for him here.
Moreover, he could not understand why the same scenario happened today. She was pregnant back then, indeed. Bit now, she was definitely not.
Then why on the earth she asked them to save the baby! It did not seem like she was lying, nor she was someone to lie. But...
There seemed to be a missing piece of a puzzle left. He had to find that before anyone else do.
