Chapter Sixty-Two: The Reunion

The fight had ended between Alex and Malcolm, and Alex was now standing among the students who had been selected by second-year students, waiting for his mentor, named Freya Crawford.

As Alex waited, he was anxious but kept those emotions hidden from sight. After all, he saw his sister sitting next to his supposed new mentor. He had been wanting to see her for over a year but wasn't sure what she would think of who he was now. He was different than when he left, after all.

Soon the door to the room had opened, and two beautiful girls were behind it.

The Ice and Lightning Empresses.

The two most beautiful girls among the second years turned heads from the other new students and their mentors. How they ignored everyone while walking over to Alex got him so many nasty looks from his fellow first years and even some second years.

As soon as Raven saw Alex, her eyes started to water. She had been waiting for this day and couldn't control her emotions.

She ran up and hugged Alex tightly, as if she didn't want to let him go.

Alex wanted to hug back, but at first he hesitated; he wasn't sure what to do, but he talked himself into returning her hug.

"It's good to see you again, sis." Alex said with a slight smile on his face.

Raven looked up at Alex, and her expression turned from tears to anger.

"Why did you leave us, Alex!? Why? You could have stayed; we would've helped you, but you left without even saying goodbye! You left me alone, Alex! Why would you do that?"

Raven put her face back into Alex's chest after she was done yelling at him. Emotions she hadn't let out in over a year came out, and the second-year students who knew her were shocked. After all, she had never shown emotion in front of any of them.

"I know Raven, but I had to do it. You guys couldn't have helped me with this." Alex said.

"How do you know that? Mom knows a lot, and she could've..." Raven said before being interrupted.

"No, she couldn't have; while she may have known about my power, she didn't know how to use it. I needed to learn from someone who has experience, and I learned a lot while I was gone" Alex tried to explain.

"Where did you even go?" Raven asked, still crying.

"I spent most of the time in the southern region of the Empire; there were not many cities, so it was easier to travel without using my last name." Alex explained.

Raven continued to cry into Alex's chest, with Alex showing a hurt expression. He knows he hurt Raven by leaving, but he also knew it couldn't be helped. He had to leave, even if, in doing so, it hurt those he loved.

"Uhm Hello, my name is Freya Crawford, your new mentor." Freya introduced herself.

Alex was awed by her beauty—long silver hair with matching silver eyes.

"It's nice to meet you; my name is Alex Blackwood." Alex introduced herself.

"I know I slept in your room this summer." Freya said.

"What?" Alex asked.

"Don't mind that; anyway, Raven, could you give him a second to breathe? You're kind of squishing him." Freya said to her best friend, who was still attached to Raven.

Raven shook her head and kept hugging Alex.

"Raven, I'm not going to leave you again. I'm here to stay, so it's okay if you let me go." Alex said to Raven.

Raven reluctantly agreed and separated herself from Alex.

"It's just that I really missed you, Alex!" Raven said.

"I missed you two, sis. I've been waiting for this day." Alex said.

"See, Raven, I told you he would come back soon." Freya thought to herself.

Freya smiled seeing Raven being happy; she never saw her smile this much in the previous year going to school together. Freya took another look at Alex and noticed how he looked.

"Beautiful purple eyes, that black hair, well built, and strong magic. He's too handsome for his own good." Freya thought to herself while smiling at Alex.

In another part of the room, Isaac was talking to the first year he had selected. He took notice of how Freya and Raven were acting around Alex and was less than pleased. He hadn't seen either girl take an interest in a guy before. For Raven, it kind of made sense; he was her brother, but it still pissed him off, and for Freya, he had never even seen her genuinely smile at a guy before. He was livid.

"This bastard." He said it under his breath while grinding his teeth.

"So Alex, I hope you're a good protégé; I expect nothing less than the best from you." Freya said smiling.

"I promise to never disappoint you then, my master." Alex teased Freya with the last part of the sentence.

"Master? I like the sound of that." Freya also teased.

Raven quickly got upset at the two teasing each other and stared at Freya, saying

"Why did you have to pick him? You knew he was my brother."

"Well, one, because I've always been curious about him, and two, did you see his magic? He weld two different elements; I had to learn what that was about." Freya said. "So Alex, wanna tell your new master?"

"Sorry, but that...."

Alex was then interrupted as the door to the room opened yet again, and it was Claire coming in with Anna and the others.

Anna rushed to Alex and hugged him.

Similar to Raven, she didn't want to let him go, and Alex had to convince them to just head home together.

Anna and Lyanna noticed something was off with the way he carried himself. While some of his smiling was genuine when they saw him there, they could tell he was hiding something behind that smile.

"Alex, where did you get that ability? You should only be able to use one element." Lyanna asked her nephew but didn't receive an answer. Instead, Alex talked to everyone who was welcoming him back, including Eve and Amelie, who had tears in their eyes. Kaede was also emotional but managed to keep her emotions under control.

Alex had managed not to answer with many details before they all left to go back to Lyanna's house.

After they arrived back at the house with Claire and Freya in tow, Alex said he was going to take a quick shower since he had been on the road for four days without a real bath.

Alex was alone in the shower and took a big sigh of relief.

"Can I tell them what I did...I just don't know, will they treat me the same, or will they treat me like a monster?" Alex thought to himself.

Alex clenched his chest as he nearly started to cry, tears going down his cheeks.

*In the kitchen of the house*

Freya sat next to Raven, who was very anxious as she watched him head upstairs. She wanted to talk to him more but could tell something wasn't right with him.

While he was in the shower, everyone began talking, and Anna asked the question.

"Claire, what happened to Alex?"

"I noticed something was wrong with him too; his expressions have something hidden beside them. Did something happen during training?" Lyanna asked Claire.

"No, not during training; while our training was tough, it didn't do that exactly, and honestly, I don't think he'd want me to tell you. Something happened a few weeks ago, and Alex has been going through a tough time since, and before you ask, that fire ability he showed is pretty new as well, and it first happened during that bad day we had." Claire explained.

"Please just tell us; I need to know how to help him." Anna said.

Claire knew Alex didn't want them to know, but she also knew his family were the only people who could possibly help him. She tried her best to do so, along with Kyssee and Adelia, but to little success, and while he was more open with them than others, he still hadn't completely opened up. So maybe this was his chance to get the support he needed.

"Well it all happened a few weeks ago..."
