23. 1st Session

"Fine let's see what we can get but I will say it's pretty thin Fitz. I don't think any of us are willing to forgive him just because he apologizes. What he did with Garret was not OK" Skye stated

"I don't think.... forgiving him is... about that. Being Ok with... what he does or what he's done." Fitz replied finally turning to her. "I think it about believing in him being able to be better." They held gazes for a moment longer before entering Vault D.

Ward in his cell was observing the two and knew they were coming so he became ready. Fully stopping his Observation Haki, even the passive one, and focusing on the torturous memories and remembering the feeling previous Grant Ward had, he will have to act like that if he wants this to work.

As the two came down and dropped the barrier Ward opened his eyes staring at the two.

"Hmm... Why did you bring down the barrier Fitz? Just making it transparent and taking down the soundproof system would have been enough if you wanted to though I didn't think you would need more information from me on the next day only. What is it now?" asked Grant Ward

"You," said Fitz as he dragged his chair and sat right in front of Ward who was sitting on his bed.

"What do you mean?" asked Grant

"We are going to go over every painful memory of your life," Fitz said then there was the clicking of his pen with the notepad in front of him as he looked at Ward, "Shall we?"

"No" replied Grant

"Yes," said Skye as she brought her own chair and sat beside Fitz, "You said your love for me was real right prove it then. Prove it then, tell Fitz what he wants to know"

"Gladly" Grant but out as he took a deep breath.

Fitz was true to his words. Every time Ward shut down or got angry the little engineer would look at Skye. She would fix him with a gaze of her a daring him to continue.

Of course, it wasn't Skye who was behind it as Grant was perfectly able to control himself but in fact, he had to act really hard to show his anger otherwise he would get caught.

After a while, Grant was ready to show another outburst but he stopped himself when he looked the way Skye was looking at him. He didn't know how all the terrible things he had experienced through his childhood and adolescence with first his family and then Garret made her get that clear almost hopeful look on her face but it kept him going regardless.

'Damn does she still have feelings for me' asked Grant from himself as he saw the look in her eyes, 'I did not see that coming? But maybe it can be useful to me in the future'

Of course with Skye having positive feelings for him will be useful to Grant as she may speak for him when they decide whether he stays in the cell or not.

During one particular story about one of Garrett's lessons involving his dog, Buddy. He noticed a look that passed between the members of his audience. He got near the end where Garret ordered him to kill the only other friend he had in years.

"Did you?" asked Fitz when he saw that Ward has stopped speaking.

"What?" asked Grant

"Kill him. Buddy." Fitz asked

"No. I pulled the trigger so he would run. Watched him disappear in the forest through the scope of my rifle." stated Grant.

"So you never had any actual plans to kill him?" Fitz further prodded.

"No, I did." Two sets of bows furrowed at him. "Gather ordered me to I had the gun pointed and ready."

"So you wanted to a lease Garret?" the little Scots prodded further.

"He had given me a direct order," Grant answered breathing unevenly ready for his next outburst.

"So?"

"I had to obey"

"Why?"

"Because"

"Because. Why?"

"It was a weakness. Just like you all are I was given an order to kill Buddy I didn't. I was given an order to kill you and Jemma and I couldn't always whenever Garret orders me to kill and I don't it proves that I am still weak." Grant growled as he stops up from his bed fists clenched.

"Ward" called out Skye as she grabbed onto his shoulder and pushed him to not back on his bed which he did.

"Well... it looks like we have enough for today let's pick up from here again," Fitz said as he picked up his notepad and climbed the stairs to walk out of Vault D.

"You doing okay?" Skye questioned with raised eyebrow not wanting him to break on the first day.

"Fine," replied Grant though he was smiling internally.

"Coulson rip your ass for assaulting me?" asked Grant changing the subject otherwise he wouldn't be able to control his laugh.

"Punching you? Normally he would be proud but since you are currently Fitz's experimental subject he gave me 'I am not angry just disappointed' speech" Skye stated.

"Ouch. Well just do your best to keep your hands off me" Grant stated

"I make no promises," Skye said leaning on to him suddenly. "Punching you is just SO much fun." She pulled away with a smirk and he couldn't help reaching out with his left hand and yanking her back.

She made a yelping noise of surprise as she went sprawling across his lap. He closed the space to her lips quickly, stopping right before making contact. Smiling that she immediately didn't pull away but stayed frozen and waiting.

"See you tomorrow then?" Ward said as she nodded as he closed the distance between their lips but only bumped his nose with hers before pulling back and said "Good I will be waiting for you"

"You-!"

"Skye!" May stood at the stairs looking down at her sitting on Ward's lap almost ready to kiss him. "Coulson said not to punch him but does he even need to say not to kiss him as well?"

"No! May! I didn't... I mean..." Skye stumbled to find an excuse for her position.

"Office! Now!"
