Reborn as an NPC in the Great Tomb of Nazarick

This is an AU! In a world where Earth is dying and humanity struggles, virtual reality games, especially the VR game YGGDRASIL, provide an escape. Momonga, the leader of a powerful race in YGGDRASIL, remains online as the game faces shutdown. Alone, he reconnects with a comrade, Bukubukuchagama, before YGGDRASIL's closure. Meanwhile, in Nazarick's Royal Suite floor, an androgynous character named Thoth, a trapped soul, anticipates freedom as the game ends. Upon the game's closure, Thoth gains control of his movements and discovers his angelic form. As Thoth explores his new abilities and surroundings, a mysterious world awaits beyond the virtual realm. With an enigmatic library, magical prowess, and a goal to adapt to the new world, Thoth embarks on an adventure, uncovering his true potential and encountering diverse characters within the Great Tomb of Nazarick. As the story unfolds, alliances, conflicts, and loyalty to the supreme one, Momonga, shape the fate of Nazarick and its inhabitants in ways not even the Supreme Beings could anticipate -x-x-x- I've only seen the anime, and have only read the later half of the LN (at which point, the story will be completely different anyway so it won't matter), so forgive any inaccuracies. Also, I don't know much about angel lore as an atheist, so I'm gonna be making up my own stuff. Hope you like the story and have a good one. A New World

On Earth, it was a dark day.

The sky was a sheet of smog, and ash choked the life out of everything. People moved through the haze, their faces and bodies obscured beneath yellow hazmat suits, shuffling like ghosts in a world stripped of color and hope. Somewhere in this bleak world, in a tiny, forgotten apartment, sat an insignificant man clinging to a relic of the past.

This man, known as Suzuki Satoru, was holding onto a lifeline—a once-legendary game called Yggdrasil. Once beloved by thousands, it was also on the brink of extinction. Like so many things in this world, it had fallen victim to the harsh truth of Suzuki's reality: money made the world go around, and when the money stopped, so did everything else. Yggdrasil was merely another casualty.

Inside Suzuki's small and "humble" apartment, the only touch of grandeur was the world he saw through his VR headset. Fully immersed in the virtual reality of Yggdrasil, Suzuki became someone else—Momonga, a towering figure of power and majesty. Wide shoulders, blazing red eyes, a magnificent black-and-purple robe that flowed like a river of shadows, and a giant, floating orb beneath his ribcage all combined to give his avatar an aura of undeniable authority.

Momonga walked through Nazarick's grand hallways, which shimmered and sparkled with opulence. A fiery red carpet, richer than anything a king or emperor would walk on, stretched beneath his feet.

The walls were pristine white, punctuated by massive obsidian pillars that rose like dark giants, adding to the room's imposing scale.

Silence hung in the air, and Suzuki suppressed the urge to sigh.

'It's so quiet.' He noticed, 'I guess I should be used to it by now... It's been a good half a year since I encountered another player.'

He sighed- No longer able to suppress the urge to do so.

His footsteps echoed as he made his way down the hall, reaching a set of dark, towering doors. As he approached, they swung open automatically, revealing the "Round Table" room.

As the name hinted, the room held a large, white table emblazoned with the symbol of their guild surrounded by forty-one chairs with plush red cushions. Suzuki moved to one of them and sat down, ignoring the floating staff behind him for now.

He sighed, tapping his finger on the table. "I wonder if anyone will come today…" he muttered, glancing at the digital clock in the corner of his vision. One hour left.

Just one more hour until this world—and his most cherished sanctuary—would vanish forever.

A flicker of frustration sparked in him. While his friends had abandoned Yggdrasil one by one, each drawn away by real-life obligations, Suzuki had stayed.

On his own, he'd gathered enough gold to maintain the Great Tomb of Nazarick, keeping the guild alive. And now, he was sitting here alone, waiting—hoping—that someone, anyone, would log in and join him.

It felt so unfair.

To Suzuki, this digital world wasn't just a game. It was home- It was here that he laughed and cried, formed friendships, and felt genuine human connection.

Suddenly, pixels shimmered in one of the seats, and a figure took shape—a purple, slime-like creature with two black orbs for eyes.

"Ah, hey Momonga."

Right—Momonga. That was his in-game name. "HeroHero-san!" Momonga said as he greeted one of his friends, his excitement unmistakable. "How have you been?"

HeroHero looked down at the table and sighed. "Ah, my air conditioner broke, so I had to spend my whole yearly bonus on that…" His posture was slumped, his voice tired—he sounded like a man running on fumes.

In other words, he sounded like the average human in their world.

"Oh…" Momonga replied awkwardly, caught off guard.

"Still, though," HeroHero continued, "I'm surprised Nazarick is still around."

Momonga froze, a storm of emotions churning in his mind. 'What do you mean, surprised? Did you expect us to abandon this place—our friendship?'

Noticing his silence, HeroHero sighed again. "Sorry for not showing up more often, Momonga. You know how it is."

Snapping out of his thoughts, Suzuki sent a nervous laughing emoji. He'd almost forgotten that in Yggdrasil, his avatar couldn't show expressions.

Sadly, his sense of touch was dulled as well, along with his ability to smell being completely out of the picture.

"It's okay, HeroHero," he replied gently, swallowing his frustration. "Just do your best out there."

HeroHero sent back a smiling emoji. "Right, speaking of…" He sighed yet again. "I've got overtime tomorrow, so I'd better head to bed early." He looked at Momonga, sending another smile emoji. "You were the best guild leader, Momonga. I hope we see each other again someday."

And with that, HeroHero logged out, leaving Momonga alone before he could even respond.

Momonga clenched his skeletal fists. "Since it's the end anyway… wanna stay up together till the end…?" His voice echoed, but there was no one left to hear it.

He let out a shout, a mix of grief and anger spilling out: "You abandoned me!"

He slammed his fist down on the table, and a red zero floated up to indicate that he'd dealt no damage. The sight only deepened his sense of futility. He took a deep breath, calming himself.

'Calm down Suzuki, they never abandoned you.' He reminded himself. 'They just chose the real over the virtual.'

Momonga stood, turning to gaze at the staff floating behind him.

The staff of Ainz Ooal Gown, floating behind a thin glass panel above a pedestal. He reached out and took the staff into his hands.

It was a masterpiece—seven golden snakes coiled together, each holding a gem in its fanged mouth. This was their pride and joy. If the staff were ever destroyed, it would mark the end of their guild. That was why it had always remained here, hidden from the world, even if it was tailored to Momonga's build.

Back in the guild's prime, they had created this staff together, every member sacrificing their time, energy, and sanity to help. For Suzuki, it was a symbol of everything they'd built, something beautiful and unbreakable that could never be replicated.

This staff—this place—that was what Ainz Ooal Gown meant to him.

He turned and left the meeting room, heading toward the Throne Room, where he would wait for the game to end.

Meanwhile, elsewhere on the tenth floor, another presence was stirring.

Located deep within the library, commonly known as the Alexandrian Codex, a young child could be seen sitting on a throne atop a circular platform.

The platform was relatively large, with a pitch-black floor that depicted all the phases of the moon around an opulent throne.

This throne, known as Pandemonium, stood in the middle of the platform. It was relatively humble when it came to its size, however, the pure, glittering diamond it was made out of made that irrelevant.

This diamond was a rich purple and red color that clashed in the middle of the throne, creating a resplendent shade of magenta.

High above this platform, there floated a large moon. From this moon all light in the library, excluding the light coming from the various lanterns, seemed to originate, leaving everything cocooned in a subtle shadow.

The child, who was most likely a male, had an ethereal beauty. A marble-like appearance that seemed almost sculpted.

His body looked around thirteen years old, with shoulder-length metallic white hair, and red eyes that seemed hollow, as if devoid of true consciousness. His skin was smooth and white, with a faint sheen that resembled polished marble.

He was dressed in a white and red tuxedo with a bright red bowtie, and behind his ear rested a single red anemone flower with seven petals and a black center, adding a touch of color to his ghostly appearance.

From his ears hung a total of two earrings, both of which depicted an open eye staring forward. Both of the earrings were black, made out of a material impossibly dark. His soft palms were covered in white gloves while his feet were hidden beneath male, white ballroom shoes with red, gem-like threads.

The walls of the cylinder were made out of large bookshelves separated by floors that extended a couple of meters out of them. The bookshelves were all dark oak while the floors were a shade of black so thick that almost no light reflected off of them. At the edge of these floors, there were silvery railings that had the occasional lantern hanging from them.

As the seconds ticked down, the child felt his heartbeat for the first time in ages.

His hollow eyes twitched, and a spark of awareness flooded into his eyes.

"Argh… fuck, my head," he muttered, wincing as a migraine hit him. 'Was my heartbeat always this loud?' He, Thoth, wondered, struggling to organize his thoughts.

It was all so overwhelming.

It felt like only seconds had passed since he'd "celebrated" his third year trapped in this form. Yet as he tried to remember anything past that moment, his memories seemed to dissolve into nothing.

'Did my brain turn off to protect me?' Thoth wondered, feeling his senses sharpen as he became fully conscious.

The game must be shutting down, he thought, Probably why I woke up… And why my heart is beating.

He recalled that when no players were around, his surroundings would fade, the sensory details disappearing to save processing power. The only constant was his mind, lingering in that suffocating digital emptiness.

'Fuck… I'm not surprised I shut down after…' Thoth shuddered, remembering "The Dark," the sensation of hovering in darkness without thought or movement. 'Was it for hours? Days? Not like I could tell the difference anymore.'

As if testing the reality of his existence, Thoth opened his mouth to sigh and was shocked when his lungs responded, exhaling softly.

He looked down at his hand, marveling at how it moved at his command.

"…I'm alive," he whispered, his high-pitched, childlike voice sounding strange to his ears.

His breathing quickened as he hugged his body, his pupils dilating and jaw trembling.

"I-I can feel my body! Haha! YES!" He shouted as he extended his hands above him, completely and utterly overcome with joy and excitement.

Even if Thoth couldn't remember all of his years trapped in this form, just the first three were enough to drive him to the brink of insanity. Illusions, hallucinations, intrusiveness, all of the flags were raised in his mind.

He took a deep breath, feeling the scent of old and new books mixed with freshly manufactured wood, and smiled- revealing his razor-sharp, white teeth and ruby-red tongue that seemed to be made from some kind of gem.

'Okay... Okay... Calm down man, you have to strategize!' He reminded himself, after all- despite his intense joy- His situation was precarious at best.

Thoth shifted around on Pandemonium for a bit, enjoying the sensation of the cold stone. He made himself comfortable as his mind raced.

Despite his best attempts to calm down, the radiant smile he had on his face never lowered, in fact, it seemed to only solidify with each second he was in control of his body as he tightly gripped the armrests of the throne.

He couldn't focus, he couldn't bring himself to do so- but then, he felt a sense of stability fill his mind.

Like a gentle hand on his shoulder, it steadied him while not restricting him in any way, and Thoth's near-manic grin lowered to a far more pleasant smile.

He looked down on Pandemonium and patted one of the armrests with his hand, gratitude filling his voice.

"Thanks."

He received no response.

Now that he could think straight, Thoth's subtle joy transformed into an intense anxiety.

'...I don't know anything.' He realized.

Of course, he knew of Overlord and his presence within it, however, that was pretty much all he knew.

The plot was distant, his memories of his past life blurred and foggy, most likely lost while he was in that comatose state. He knew the names of the major characters and could vaguely remember their personalities, but future events? Minor characters? Any specifics? All of that was foreign to him.

He did, luckily, know who he was meant to be.

An arrogant fallen angel. One who looked down on all other beings and saw humans as nothing but skittering insects. And even his fellow creations he looked down at.

'...What an ass I was meant to be.' Thoth complained, 'I don't want to hurt anyone, so at least my personality hasn't been twisted.' And while there was little he could do, he was not going to be controlled again.

He was Thoth, he no longer remembered his original name, but he would never forget who he was, and who he wanted to be.

A good person who helps those in need.

'God, I'm so fucking lame.' He snickered at himself.

He shook his head to dismiss the thought.

'I'll have to adapt. Act arrogant and bratty, but in reality, push things in such a way to benefit the most people.'

That was simpler said than done, but as long as he didn't rebel against Nazarick, he should be fine.

'First, I'll directly subordinate myself to Ainz- or uh... "Momonga", for my safety.' Albedo, with her sharp mind and keen eyes, was significantly more likely to see through Thoth and his faked actions. So Thoth had to minimize his contact with her.

'Not to mention that Momonga is sympathetic, I'll even get breaks and free time with him, unlike Albedo.' Thoth felt a shiver go up his spine at the thought of being employed by the succubus, forced to work at all times without a single break.

'Ugh, my human mind is not built for that.' Thoth then stood up, the platform shaking as he misjudged his strength.

"...Well, aren't I a strong boy?" He then more carefully walked over to the edge of the platform, which had a waist-high counter made out of black marble.

He was only a head taller than it, and he struggled to climb over the counter without breaking it in half.

As he did so, he felt pressure from his back, as if something was trying to get out.

Thoth raised his eyebrow in concern, however, since the sensation wasn't painful or uncomfortable in any way, he tenatively allowed it to proceed.

Slowly, he felt his flesh split apart as four black wings came out of his back.

Two came from his shoulder blades while the other two came from his lower back, his clothes naturally ripped four holes just large enough for the wings to fit through, allowing them to breathe.

One of the wings gently brushed against his face, and the eyes on it looked at him with curiosity and excitement.

'It's like a cat looking at a new toy.' Thot mused.

The wings were each covered in eyes, each eye was the same size as a human eye, and all of them had the same, ruby-red pupil. Additionally, they moved around and shifted on his wings as if his feathers were liquid for them to swim through.

He carefully touched and rubbed his wings, and they twitched against his touch.

They felt soft and comfortable- like pillows- yet the metallic sheen of the feathers gave away their deadly purpose.

The eyes all curved as if they were smiling, while a couple rolled themselves.

'Right, at least I won't be alone.' Thoth smiled.

It was one hell of a weird feeling- looking at his wings and being observed by tens of eyes with various emotions, but he found them strangely comforting. Something inside of him knew that they loved him, and would never hurt him.

Thoth then looked down from the platform.

The floor was nearly two hundred meters beneath him, being two kilometers wide at all points.

'...I do not like heights.' Thoth gulped and then sighed, 'Well, if I'm ever gonna fly, I have to learn...' He tried to be positive, but he was certainly not a fan of falling to his death.

"...Why isn't there a ladder or something?" He whined, "Ugh, I should be able to fly but..." He felt his wings flap lightly.

He was still overwhelmed by the sensation of his legs moving when he wanted- even after he was soothed by Pandemonium.

Flying would do God knows what to him.

Thoth turned back to Pandemonium and leaned forward, flapping his wings lightly.

If he was unsure about his flight, then he would practice flying on the platform.

With a tentative flap of his wings, he sent himself stumbling forward and down from the counter.

With another, he reached a height of approximately three meters before he fell to the floor, landing gracefully on his feet. This was only thanks to his remarkable brain, which had a reaction time far superior to any human.

"...Okay! Nice!"

Thoth then flapped his wings so he got to the same distance, and he did so again and again until he was more than thirty meters above the platform.

He then shifted his center of mass forward and flapped his wings, flying forward.

It felt amazing.

Thoth didn't know if it was because he lacked freedom for so long, or perhaps because he was still slightly manic, but all he knew was the immense joy he felt to his core.

The wind bent around him as he flew in circles, going higher and higher, a smile growing on his face.

It felt cathartic, his prison- this unholy jail that he was forced to embrace- now it belonged to him. He was the one Guardian of the Alexandrian Codex, he now chose what to do and when to do it, and he was free.

Thoth laughed, a laugh of pure joy not even the strongest of wills could suppress, however, it was cut short as he flew down and noticed the doors of the Codex opening.

Rather, it was far more accurate to say he felt the doors being opened. As if a lever flipped in his mind.

He looked down and saw a beautiful face, yet one he dreaded seeing.

The Guardian Overseer and brilliant mind of Ainz Ooal Gown- Lady Albedo herself.

She was the incarnation of feminine beauty. Long black hair went down from her head to her scalp, and it seemed to shine and flow with a haunting beauty. Her eyes stood to contrast her dark hair, being a fascinating and magnetic Golden.

Her pupils were not round and soft, instead, they were thin and long, like those of a snake. Her smile was perfectly soft and kind- As if she would not harm even the most annoying of mosquitoes.

This was further reinforced by her thin arms and soft, unblemished white skin that seemed to almost radiate a sense of ease and warmth. From this soft skin, at her hips, stretched two lean, black wings that were curled forward slightly. Unlike Thoth's, they didn't have eyes or any features of note.

Her dress was pure white with golden engravings in a web pattern over her chest, which showed just enough of her cleavage to mesmerize men and women alike. It additionally revealed her shoulders and the sides of her thighs.

The dress was not indecent by any means- It was neither scandalous nor outright slutty- However, if a rational mind looked at her, they would immediately mark her as a temptress were it not for her beauty and the perfectly faked, kind personality she put on in front of her enemies.

Thoth gulped down a bit of saliva and began descending.

He had to act carefully, 'Should I act brazen and arrogant?' He concluded that he should, after all, that is how he is supposed to act.

'How much should I do it? Should I bow or kneel... Or maybe just give her a respectful nod instead?'

'Ugh, if only I remembered more!' Thoth complained and sighed as he landed on the floor.

He looked up at Albedo, who was approximately two heads taller than him- and bowed slightly, his right hand crossed over his chest while his left one extended outward.

Like an actor bowing before an audience- he gave a delicate smile.

"I greet the Guardian Overseer." He said, his tone filled with just enough respect to be sufficient, but lacking the authenticity of most people who bow before her- Partially because he didn't respect her in the same way they did. After all, he is not a cultist blinded by the worship of the Forty-One Supreme Beings.

Thoth then looked up at her with his red eyes and straightened his back before he was permitted to do so, and he kept his wings out, not in an imposing way, but in a relaxed yet present state.

'Oh Gods, please give me luck like Momonga has...' He prayed internally as Albedo spoke, her voice a soft and serene one that shook Thoth to his core.

She looked down at him, her smile as kind and unshifting as ever, which only made Thoth more nervous.

"Greetings, Thoth." She closed her eyes and nodded lightly in greeting, "Lord Ainz has called for all Guardians to meet on the sixth floor. Make your way to the Amphitheater within five minutes. Understood?" The last part was spoken with a faint hint of venom in it, however, Thoth ignored it.

"Yes." He said plainly and stood in silence.

Albedo didn't seem to mind, however, Thoth was well aware that she could hide her emotions at will. Meaning he couldn't be sure of her true feelings.

"Well if you'll excuse me, I have many duties to attend to." She excused herself politely and turned to leave, and Thoth nodded.

"I bid you farewell." He said, and watched as Albedo left without another word.

Now that he was alone once more Thoth had some room to breathe.

'That was decent I think.' He concluded, happy that he wasn't reprimanded. As his body visibly relaxed.

There wasn't a doubt in Thoth's mind that he made a poor impression, being very clearly prideful but not outright disrespectful- But now he had a blueprint for how he should act going forward.

If he was disrespectful, Albedo, as his superior, would not allow it for even a second. However, if he wasn't arrogant or prideful in a subtle yet noticeable way, he would be no doubt seen as an anomaly, which would attract Momonga's attention.

'If Momonga found out the truth about me, it actually wouldn't be awful, but I don't want that.'

The reason is simple. He would get special treatment, make him more paranoid, and also attract attention for no good reason.

Of course, Momonga would no doubt appreciate someone who saw him as a normal man, but Thoth fully intended to fulfill that lore to a certain extent. Even while "revering" him on the surface.

However, the most important concern is that Momonga, in his new form, feels no empathy or care for beings that are outside Nazarick. He doesn't necessarily hate them- But if he learned that Thoth, the creation, was wiped away and replaced by the current him, who knows how he would react?

This could be seen as a desecration of the creation of his friends, a personal attack on his memory and love for them.

There would be no end to his wrath should that happen.

It would be difficult, but Thoth- while he couldn't outright help Momonga shoulder the burden openly- he could help him out in secret.

For example, Momonga is a very good ruler, he deeply cares for his subjects and will therefore most likely give a lot of breaks and the option to rest whenever you wish, this is a good thing-

-However.

For Momonga, when his subjects don't rest, he feels guilty or gets stressed and worried.

So, Thoth would take a break, of course, he couldn't do this without a plan, as that would make him despised as a lazy and unworthy creation- but he knows exactly how to convince the Guardians how to do this.

Training.

-Or rather, the guise of it.

'Since the fanatics need to serve Momonga at all times, I'll just make them think that getting away from their duties is more helpful.'

Now, they would never simply laze around and do nothing. Therefore, Thoth would convince them with combat and tactical training.

They would take the weekend and have it specifically designated for combat and study, improving the tactical and martial prowess of all Nazarick members while also allowing Thoth to rest.

After all, they wouldn't want to learn and spar all day, would they?

'...Nah... I'll think of something if they do.' He lied to himself.

Thoth sighed and walked to a nearby staircase, making his way to the first floor of bookshelves.

The reason is simple- He had not a faint clue on how to get to the sixth floor. So he prayed that the Codex would respond to his wishes and provide him with a map.

He looked at the dark oak bookshelves and the various books filling them and reached out to one, pushing his desire for a map to the surface of his mind.

Nothing happened.

Thoth smiled bitterly, '...Yeah, what did I expect.' He then shook his head.

However, as he did so, he suddenly felt another sense of pressure coming from his body, this time however, it was his eyes.

They glowed a menacing red still, yet not the glow was so bright that they were akin to torches in the dark.

Thoth gripped the side of his head with his right hand as a terrible migraine washed over him, but as it did so, he stumbled forward and down the stairs.

Leaning on the door, he felt something tugging him outside, like a gentle push, and as he ignored it, enduring the headache, he felt it wane and disappear.

And the migraine went with it.

'Ugh. Just my fucking luck, what was that? A racial ability I triggered?'

Whatever it was, it was rather painful, but now he had even less time, and there wasn't enough room to investigate further.

'Whatever! It was trying to pull me somewhere after I asked for a way to the Amphitheater, so I can only assume it answered my request.'

So, he focused his mind once more and felt the same migraine grow over him, but he bore with it and allowed it to guide him.

Pulled along by something beyond his understanding, he rushed through the opulent halls of the tenth floor.

He had two minutes left. He couldn't be late- If he was- it would be the last thing he would ever do.

...

Momonga stood in the Amphitheater, two blazing red eyes hovering in the empty orbits of his eye sockets.

He was still dressed the same, with the Staff of Ainz Ooal Gown held in his right arm.

The Amphitheater was a massive building designed after the Colosseum of the Roman Empire, however, it was then perfected to outshine it in every way.

The massive building was a hundred and fifty meters wide and a hundred and eighty meters tall at its widest and tallest points. Its walls were made out of dark metal, while the auditorium- the seating areas for spectators- was made out of the same material.

This extended to the halls in the Amphitheater as well. Even the VIP lounge, where the Supreme Beings could sit and observe the intruders fighting for their lives, was made from this black "steel."

Nonetheless, Momonga looked across it at the Primordial Fire Elemental and the dark elf twins.

Aura and Mare, Guardians of the sixth floor.

Aura is a boyish-looking child with dark skin and pointed ears, a signature trait of the dark elves. She has golden hair and heterochromia, her left eye blue and right eye green. She wears reddish-black dragon scale leather covered by a white and gold vest embroidered with the sigil of Ainz Ooal Gown. Below it, she has a matching set of white trousers and gold-plated shoes, and around her neck is an acorn necklace emitting golden light. She is equipped with a whip around her waist and a giant, decorated bow on her back. As a dark elf, her skin was on the darker side while his ears were long and sharp.

Mare, meanwhile, wears a blue dragon scale leather full-body suit, covered by a white and gold vest embroidered with the sigil of Ainz Ooal Gown and a forest green-leaf cloak. Below, he has a matching short white skirt exposing his thighs, and on his neck is an acorn necklace emitting silver light. His slender hands are donned with shiny white silk gloves and he wields a twisted black wooden staff.

The Primordial Fire elemental was truly massive.

As its name suggested, it was made out of pure flame that could easily melt any common metals within seconds, yet Aura's whip sliced it apart entirely unscathed.

The Elemental threw one of its massive fists toward Aura as its body healed, however, Mare stepped in and cast "[Shield]" just in time, protecting Aura from most of the damage.

It was then that the Primordial Fire Elemental froze in place and abruptly turned around toward one of the entrances to the arena.

There stood Thoth, his head seemed to be tilted up slightly, his ominous red eyes glowing with a sense of pride.

His wings, covered in eyes, made him feel large and imposing despite his young appearance. He walked with his back straight and an unspoken confidence in his steps.

'Damn it, why did he have to show up of all people?!' Momonga felt a great amount of stress, and for good reason.

'He is so scary!' He shouted in his mind, indignant.

Ainz knew Thoth well because he was responsible for his creation to an extent.

Way back when Tabula and Touch Me were arguing like crazy as they tended to do, it was exploding so much that the guild was on the verge of crumbling because of it.

Back then, it was known as "Nines Own Goal", named after the nine founding members respectively, with Touch Me being the leader.

Now, the conflict was simple, Touch Me was a righteous, serious guy while Tabula was a chaotic evil theatrical villain.

So, Momonga proposed that they make an NPC together with him as a mediator.

Thoth was the creation they made- And Ainz was terrified of him- but to be fair, he was terrified of most denizens of Nazarick in one way or another.

'He's literally both the virtues and sins of the bibble put together to make a saint and demon in the skin of a child!' Momonga lamented that he didn't stop Bukubukuchagama from "helping" with the character creation process.

'If he figures out that I'm a fraud, he'll totally try to conquer Nazarick and lead a rebellion against me! Hell, he already did that to his previous master in his lore!' Momonga felt his jaw open slightly as he held his head.

Then, he calmed down, and all of the panic vanished.

Now that he was present once more, Momonga was paying close attention to the fight.

Thoth joined in after the Elemental attacked him, and the reason for that is simple.

As Momonga recalled, Thoth's ability passive [Fallen Presence] automatically tripled the aggro of any fey, fiends, undead, or elementals around him toward him.

This naturally made him an excellent tank, and Momonga's two friends didn't hesitate to lean into this.

Normally, Angels are weak to elementals, and elementals are weak to demons, while demons are weak to Angels, this was purely for balancing purposes.

However, Thoth was no mere fallen angel, he was also a construct. This made him resistant to many elemental damage types and outright immune to things like poison.

This, combined with many of his other passive abilities, made him resistant to many forms of damage, immune to others, and combined with his insane physical stats, made him the strongest frontline fighter Nazarick has at its disposal.

And to top it all off, due to his race as a Fallen Angel, he has access to many holy spells thanks to his species. Of course, this selection of spells is outright pathetic compared to full casters like Momonga, but it is still there.

Momonga watched as Thoth grabbed the Primordial Fire Elemental and yanked it to the floor with his hands, and with one stomp, he crushed its "head", finally dropping its HP to zero.

'Right Momonga, Suzuki, you can do this, just keep acting cool!' He told to himself as the trio approached him.

As they were doing so, Momonga strained his metaphorical ears to listen in on their conversation.

...

"Sorry for the trouble Thoth." Aura apologized, a large yet slightly awkward smile on her face.

Thoth looked at her, his eyes were filled with no particular emotion, but one still couldn't help but feel his contempt.

'The Elemental burned one of my wings.' Thoth grumbled to himself as he lightly shook his head, his anger lowering.

When his wing instinctively moved to protect him from the Elemental's attacks, he felt virtually no pain. His wings were simply too durable for such a measly attack to deal any serious damage, however, he did feel a surge of anger.

As if he saw a friend being bullied, or a bunch of losers ganging up on a nerd.

It felt unjust and wrong, and he didn't want to let it stand- which he didn't.

Mare flinched and looked downward in shame as Thoth sighed, as the support class in the encounter, he felt responsible for any damage suffered by Thoth.

They walked, and as they reached Lord Momonga, Thoth bowed before him, just as he did with Albedo.

"Greeting Lord Momonga." He spoke, his four grand wings flapping slightly behind him.

Their eyes looked down at Momonga as if they were amused, like a feline watching a rat, a sense of anticipation and expectation filled them.

'His eyes are so creepy!' Momonga shouted internally, resisting the urge to teleport away.

"Hey, you better kneel before Lord Momonga!' Aura shouted, her voice filled with energy and a sprinkle of anger.

Thoth looked at her and then at Lord Momonga.

'Aura! You've doomed me!'

Suzuki was truly trying to avoid Thoth's watchful eyes, but sadly, he had to man up and be brave.

Momonga's and Thoth's eyes met for a second before Momonga turned away, his gaze settling on Aura.

"It's fine Aura. I understand well why you are upset," Momonga moved his hand and settled it on his chine bone as if stroking his beard.

Momonga doesn't have skin, let alone a beard.

He continued: "However, I also understand that it might be difficult for Thoth to kneel, so I will allow it just this once." His gaze settled on Thoth, the red orbs in his sockets glowing brighter, "Have I made myself clear?"

"Of course," Thoth smiled, still bowing.

"You may now rise," Momonga permitted as he pulled out a white jug full of water from a void-like tear in the air.

"Would you three like something to drink?"

This was his inventory, luckily he could use all of his abilities and features instinctively.

'With my inventory alone, I would be able to survive on my own effectively anywhere.'

This belief was not without justification, Momonga had the most inventory slots in the entire game. The second place had around two hundred slots, while had over seven hundred.

Momonga felt a bit of shame wash over him as he pulled out three beautiful glasses. One green, one blue, and one red.

He handed them out to the trio, with the green one going to Mare, and the other two going to Aura and Thoth respectively.

He then poured water into each glass one by one. Starting with Thoth and ending with Mare.

Mare timidly drank his, while Aura drank hers in one big gulp, Thoth on the other hand regally sipped his, with his pinky extended.

'This is good practice for acting fancy,' he mused to himself, a slight smile on his face.

Momonga took notice of the smile, 'It would seem that Thoth is loyal as of now, though his pride has shown itself in a very apparent way.' However, Momonga considered, 'As long as he is loyal and obeys my command and I don't needlessly provoke him, we should coexist just fine.'

Suzuki resisted the urge to sigh, he was already tired, and he only met four Guardians thus far.

Momonga was pulled out of his thoughts as Thoth frowned and finished his glass, staring into it as if he were dissatisfied with something.

"Thank you so much for the water Lord Momonga!" Aura thanked him energetically while Mare nervously echoed the sentiment from behind his sister.

Both of them returned their empty glasses and looked at Thoth, who hadn't thanked Lord Momonga yet.

However, soon, Thoth felt Aura's gaze burning into him and realized the errors of his ways.

"Thank you for the water Lord Momonga." He said, giving the glass back

"You're all welcome."

'That water tasted so dull,' Thoth complained, however, it wasn't the water's fault that his tongue was as sensitive as a rock, both metaphorically and literally.

However, it was then that Shalltear Bloodfallen arrived.

Shalltear is a vampire of short stature and has the appearance of a buxom fourteen-year-old girl. She is a true beauty with pale shiny skin, seductive crimson-red eyes, and fine facial features. Shalltear's silver hair is tied in a ponytail through a large ribbon on top of it all, allowing others a full view of her face.

Shalltear wears a soft black evening dress with a big heavy skirt. Her upper body is dressed in a lace embellished ribbon and a short tailored jacket. Her hands are donned with long lace gloves, not exposing any bit of skin exterior. However, her breasts are fake and are completely flat, similar to a boy's. She covers this up by using an excessive amount of breast pads.

"My my~ Did I arrive first?" Her voice was soft and seductive, she had to do her best to impress her dear Lord Momonga after all.

Her crimson eyes immediately snapped onto Thoth for a second, however, they immediately searched for and found her beloved Lord Momonga. With a flick of her wrist, she threw her black and red gothic umbrella to the side, and with an excited giggle, she rushed forward.

Her umbrella disappeared and turned into a swarm of black butterflies as teleported forward to her beloved.

"Oh my beloved Lord Momonga!" She squealed in glee, like a high schooler talking to her crush, "You look as magnificent as I thought! No, you look so much better! Words cannot describe your beauty-" Shalltear shot out praise like a machine gun, and Momonga found himself entirely overwhelmed

'Jesus Christ calm down-!' Momonga thought to himself in a panic, his left hand extending to stop Shalltear from coming any closer, as she might as well have already been on top of him.

However, Shalltear took this a little differently than Momonga anticipated.

With a smile, she looked at her beloved's hand, which was just slightly above her chest area, and she gave him a happy yet lewd smile.

"Stop it Shalltear you are slobbering all over Lord Momonga!"

Shalltear, greatly displeased by Aura and her intervention, turned her head to face her.

"Shut up shorty! You can leave if you don't wanna watch!"

Aura clicked her tongue, this was her floor, and she should leave? Not to mention the disrespect of clinging onto a Supreme Being without consent.

"Enough-" Thoth began, but was interrupted by Aura.

"Fake tits." She muttered to herself, and Shalltear immediately turned her face and body to her, covering her chest with both of her hands as she yelled out in shock.

"W-What are you talking about?!"

"I knew it" Aura smiled slily, "That's why you went through the trouble of using a [Gate]! Your handy work would shift if you ran!"

Shalltear then walked up to Aura with an angry shout got in her face and poked her chest with a finger, "You little brat! You're just as small as me!"

Aura shrugged, "Maybe, but I'm only seventy-six years old, I can still grow, but you are stuck in that casket of yours forever!" She shook her head, "Such a shame Shallty..."

As Shalltear got louder, Momonga and Thoth looked at each other, and both internally sighed.

This would be a long eternity ahead of them.

But hey, at least they weren't alone.
