Shut in life

"Yes" I screamed as I finally beat the boss after my seventh try. I spent hours farming the best Items in the entire game just to be able to defeat this side boss because the online community said it would give you an op weapon.

I stared at the screen watching the death scene of the boss I spent days on to kill because every time I failed, I had to do collect all the stuff necessary again because I would lose it. Now the giant ugly monster was laying on it's belly heavily breathing. I pressed "E" to interact with the monster.

"You have defeated me… Congratulations. I want to give you one last thing before my life in this dark lonely cave finally ends." A screen popped up. "Do you want to accept the present of the lonely cave guardian (goddess eyes)?

"Yes definitely". I pressed the key "y" to accept. The monster started to glow and slowly vanished. "Finally… finally my lonely life ends" the monster said and disappeared. Another screen pooped up. "You have received (goddess eyes) from the lonely cave guardian.

The moment the cutscene ended I immediately pressed escape and pressed the save button. This was one of the few online games were the player had to safe his progress manually. In the right bottom corner, the saving symbol appeared.

A window popped up but not in the game. "Other world adventures online.exe doesn't respond" The message said. "No no no" I screamed at my computer. "The game wasn't done saving yet!" I screamed again. Then the game and the message disappeared. I stared at the reflection of my own face on my black wallpaper.

I could feel a mix of anger and despair crawling up to my chest. I opened the browser and went to https://Otherworldadventuresonline.com I opened the community tab and wrote a comment. I wrote "I worked so hard to defeat the lonely cave guardian and the moment I received the goddess eyes the game crashed. I'm getting angry if that isn't saved." I wrote.

I didn't start the game again because after the crash I lost all interest in playing and I didn't want to wait the five minutes loading time ether so I just wrote a post hoping for someone to respond that my progress will be saved.

Then an answer popped up under my comment. It was from someone of the developer team. "Thank you for your comment but a "lonely cave guardian" and "goddess eyes" don't exist in our game so maybe you confused us with a game that has a similar name like "Other world online" or "World adventures online"

I looked at the answer in confusion. "I spent the last days battling a monster that doesn't exist to receive an Item that doesn't exist and now you tell me I confused your game with other games I have never heard about?"

"Is this some kind of really bad joke?" I screamed at my screen. Of course, my computer didn't answer me. I wanted to have a proof that I definitely was right and opened a statistics program of my computer. I selected the statistics of "Other world adventures online.exe" and looked at the statistics besides the name of the game stood two things: "played +1560 hours" and "last played 8 days ago".

I stared at the screen in disbelieve "What the fuck do you think I played the last 8 days for a game huh?" I screamed at my computer again. After a few clicks the program showed me what I wanted to see.

Statistics of this week:

Unknown program:

Played: 67 hours this week.

"What in gods name? I didn't buy a new game in the last few months" I clicked on the "Unknown program" and a new message appeared. "This file doesn't exist on your computer".

"What the hell is going on here" I screamed. On the right side of the screen there was the list of achievements in the game. I only had two. "You killed the lonely cave guardian" and "goddess eyes"

"There it is" I pointed at the screen showing every non existing person in the room what I just saw. Just in case I refreshed the page. "We couldn't find any statistics for this programs :( " A message said.

Angrily I hit the power button of my pc forcing it to shut down immediately. Then I threw myself on my bed and screamed in my pillow. Then I just breathed heavily with my face still buried in the pillow. "MEOW" I looked up. I looked directly in the eyes of my cat Moon.

Yes, I gave her that name because of her white fur. She licked my face. Moon isn't actually my cat but a stray cat which somehow spends 90% of her time with me. She was always with me when I lived with my parents until I moved across the country. A few days later Moon appeared again.

I don't know how she managed to find or even follow me but I'm happy she's here. I spent most of my time at home and almost never leave. I started to earn money by winning events in video games which was rather easy because I play all day and so it was easy to beat all the others.

My apartment is really shabby. Stuff lying everywhere and everywhere are tons of dust. Everything in here was really cramped. All my windows pointed directly to the street, so it was nearly impossible to open the windows.

"I wish I had one of these giant villas with a nice view over a beautiful landscape and never the need to earn money for food, water and electricity. I would just lie in comfortable clothes on a balcony enjoying the view.
