Enhanced humans

Verlin breathed a sigh of relief. He had thought sleeping would have made an effect on how he perceived time. Luckily, he was just overthinking. Verlin could still hear people working on his lab. He flew downstairs and headed towards the lab but was stopped by Rachel before he arrived.

She said, " If you're gonna go in there, make sure you don't show anything. Not everyone knows about you. To them, they are here just to make a lab, and that's it."

Verlin nodded his head and said, " Alright, but there is something I wanted to ask you."

"What a coincidence. I also have something I want to ask you, but you can go first."

"Can you give me lend me money, I want to buy something."

Rachel smiled slightly and said, "I'm guessing, You don't feel like steal anymore?"

"I didn't steal." Verlin rubbed his head a bit and continued. "Can you just lend me some money, I need to buy some books."

Verlin had realized that even if he noticed a difference between the 2 polar bears, he might not be able to point out what part of their blood samples were different. So he decided to read some books about the basics of human and animal biology. He was also gonna study up on some other subjects as well.

"I can give you one of my cards, but if you want to read books, there is a public library in City A you could go to, you will find most of your information there."

Verlin nodded his head in agreement and said, " Alright then, but I'm still gonna need money to buy more advanced books. So if you could lend me a card, that would be nice."

Rachel walked towards her room and said, "You keep saying lend and borrow like you are gonna give the back the money."

Verlin followed her to her room but was stopped at her door, Rachel looked down at Verlin and said, " Want to see me change?"

"Huh? I thought you were giving me the card."

"And I thought we were going to the library. Also, I've been meaning to ask, since you have reproductive organs similar to humans, do you also partake in intercourse."

She asked this because it was requested from the headquarters. They didn't want him reproducing and creating several super powered alien children

Verlin was a bit surprised and said, " I do, but I doubt me and any human can reproduce offspring because of the difference in biology. It's like how humans can mate with a chimpanzee, but they won't be creating any children."

Rachel rolled her eyes and said, " Thanks for the analogy, but I want to know if you are attracted to the human body."

Verlin paused for a second and said, " Well, kind of, I mean it's a bit complicated, but yeah. Why are you even asking? "

"Im just trying to find out because, You know, I'm quite an attractive lady. Who knows what's going on inside your head."

Verlin raised an eyebrow and said, "You think I'm gonna attack you?"

Rachel didn't make eye contact with Verlin. Yesterday, she spent a lot of time thinking about it, before she didn't care that they were living together because she had a bit of self-confidence in her abilities, but after the spar yesterday she realized, to him, she is no different from a normal human girl.

Verlin continued and said, " You don't have to worry about that. The human body has too many flaws to my senses to find attractive."

If it was before, his answer would be straight up, yes, but now he could see everything.The slight differences in their supposed symmetrical face, The unperceivable dead skin cells are on full display to his eyes, the odor hidden behind the perfume, he could literally hear the stomach acid moving around inside them, It was almost disgusting. The closer he looked, the more he saw that humans were just more sophisticated animals. The reason he said it was complicated was because he could relax those senses and try to ignore those flaws.

Rachel snorted in dissatisfaction and said,

"hmph, just wait here for me to get changed."

As she walked into her room and slammed the door, although she was relieved by his answer, no one wanted to be called unattractive. Verlin just shrugged off her little tantrum.

In less than 2 minutes, Rachel was out of her room and ready to go, Verlin took his phone from his room, and they both left the house and headed towards the public library.

It was still quite early in the morning but luckily the library opens up at 6 am. in the morning. When they arrived, Verlin got out of the car and walked into the library, Rachel didn't follow and went off to go buy food. Verlin checked in with his ID and started collecting books he was going to read.

Verlin picked books on biology, technology, and chemistry, with more than 35 books in total. Verlin could have ready each book in a couple of seconds, but because he was in public, he had to take his time. After finishing the last book it was already 11:30, He now had some basic knowledge of human and animal genetics. Verlin looked at Rachel who had returned a couple hours ago and said, " I'll have to be going somewhere soon, you can head back home."

Rachel lazily replied, " Where is it, I can drop you off there."

"No need. It'll be faster if I go by myself."

As Verlin finished talking, he got a call from Chloe. After he answered, Chloe said in a nervous voice, " Are you still going to show up?"

"I am. Just give me a couple of minutes."

Verlin expanded his hearing to find where his voice was going through the phone, and he located the park, 8km in a straight line. He hung up the phone and looked at Rachel and said, "I'll go back to the house after im done. It shouldn't take more than a couple of hours, Goodbye."

Verlin walked out of the library and entered an alleyway, made sure no cameras or people were around, and them he disappeared on the spot. When Verlin appeared again, he was behind a tree at the park, and he could see Chloe sitting on a swing by herself. He texted her to let him know he was there, and he walked away from behind the tree towards Chloe.

After Chloe saw him, she ran to him and shook his hand, saying, "Hello, I'm so glad you were able to come meet me in person."

"No problem, I'm just curious as to why you wanted to meet me after only seeing me once."

Chloe looked around before grabbing his hand and walking towards the woods. After they were 100 meters in, she stopped and turned towards Verlin and said in a low voice, " I know you are different from other humans."

"If you're talking about my hair, then I guess it's different, but apart from that, I'm not sure what you mean."

"I know you are an Enhanced human."

"Enhance human? What's that?"

" It's quite literal. it's just a human with enhanced capabilities, kind of like a gene mutation."

Verlin thought about Rachel, who seemed to have superhuman strength and speed. While he was thinking, Chloe continued and said, " There's no point in hiding, I already checked."

Verlin was visibly confused. He was sure we would notice if she had tried to do anything.

"Checked? When exactly did you do that."

Chloe had a smug smile on her face and said, " Back at the grocery store, when we took a picture, I attacked your pressure points, Since you weren't paralyzed it means you body is stronger than a humans."

"So if I was a normal human, I would have been paralyzed."

"Mhm, my aunt taught me how to attack pressure points as self-defense, but it doesn't work effectively on enhanced humans."

"I see, so why did you call me here? to blackmail me?"

Chloe vigorously shook her head. " No no no no, I just wanted to make friends. You know, with another enhanced human." she said this as she walked in front of Verlin and held his hand.

Verlin looked at her green eyes that seemed to shine in anticipation. He withdrew his hand from hers and said, " Sure. "

Chloe jumped more than 3 meters into the air and yelled, " Yes," as she started laughing.

After she had finished celebrating, she asked Verlin, " So what's your special ability?"

Verlin was stunned. He had thought that enhanced humans just had enhanced density, strength, and agility. He didn't know they also had special abilities along with them. He said, "How about you tell me yours first."

"Oh, sorry,I didn't mean to be rude or anything. My ability is to make myself invisible." After saying this, her body went invisible but not intangible, meaning he could touch her but not see her. Even Verlin couldn't see her, but he could still hear her heart beating, so he could still track her movement. Chloe popped up again beside him with a smile and said, "So what's your ability?"

Verlin thought for a second and decided which ability would best to show her, since he could only pick one he went with flight, "My ability is flight." he said this as he started levitating in the air.
