The descent into Darkness

The forest around them seemed to tighten, as if the trees themselves were closing in, each one casting long shadows that danced ominously. Emily glanced around at her companions, noting how fear had begun to etch itself into their faces. Even Darius, always so defiant, appeared uneasy as they continued their trek through the dense woods. The encounter with the shadow creatures had rattled them more than they wanted to admit. The silence of the forest was unnatural, as though all sound had been swallowed up by the creeping darkness.

"We need to keep moving," Emily said firmly, though inside, her stomach churned with anxiety. She couldn't shake the feeling that they were being watched, that every step they took brought them closer to something they weren't prepared to face. The oppressive air felt thick, almost suffocating, as if some unseen force was pushing down on them.
