After Kathrin fell asleep and four hours of pleasure had already passed, Valeria was also exhausted and lay down next to Mortis, clinging tightly to him. But Mortis was not yet exhausted and his sleep pattern was confused. He waited until they were both sound asleep, and then slowly disengaged himself from the bed. He made his way to the bathroom. When he opened the door to his room and walked through, Mortis suddenly found himself in an empty, large room, and standing before him was his divine father, grinning mischievously at him. "Are you ready to train with me again to get to know you better and develop your skills, my son?" asked the tall blond god. "Yes, I am. I was about to ask someone else how to deal with my eyes and how to learn more about my divine abilities," Mortis replied.
The father flicked his hands, and Mortis was doused with water and dried by a gentle breeze to remove the smell of the bedroom from him. "You interrupted me while I was bathing. Little did I know you would surprise me," Mortis said with a smile. "Unexpected things often happen, my son, but let's get started. After all, an important battle awaits you in two days, and you should at least learn the basics to see clearly with your eyes," the father explained.
"I understand that, father, but how can that be done? It seems like my eye is doing the exact opposite of what I want. And when I calm down, it seems to activate all the more," Mortis explained.
"No, it does exactly what it's supposed to and what you want it to. The only thing is that you yourself don't know who you are and what you are. That's why, even when you think you're calm, there remains a certain nervousness, and you look around uncertainly, as if you're lurking for danger. And so you go through all possible scenarios. In combat, even if you have good instincts and are already strong, you usually expect the impossible instead of just concentrating and reading your opponent. You try to interpret the future," the father continued to explain.
So, are you telling me that my fear or caution makes me unconsciously activate my eye ability and see a thousand possible futures? But then why doesn't it react when I clearly want something else?" asked Mortis.
"Simply because you don't really know what you want, and because you haven't even scratched your divinity yet. It's like you're giving orders with a body part sewn on, but only instinct makes you move at all," the father explained. "That's why we're not going to fight, but we're going to heal inside you and increase your concentration so that you learn to focus on what's in front of you and not on what could be," the father added.
Suddenly, Mortis found himself in free fall. Millions of images passed him by, and Mortis didn't know what was going on. They were probably memories hidden somewhere inside him. After a while, he saw the ground and winced, but before he hit it, he slowed down and slowly floated down to the ground.
When he reached the ground, thousands of figures stood in front of Mortis, all looking and eyeing him. This made Mortis visibly nervous, and he had wanted to draw his scythe, but most of them just laughed, as there was no scythe for Mortis to take. When Mortis calmed down a bit, the crowd split up, and in a silver robe, the figure of Aeternus approached him. Aeternus then said, "Glad you're here, new me. You are the first to make it to lifetime. I am proud of myself, even though it took so many lifetimes." He looked around and saw the faces of all his past life forms that he had taken on over the millions of years.
Mortis turned and looked into a wide variety of faces. He felt a nostalgic connection with each one, but still something was missing. He noticed that all were athletic and had the appearance of warriors, which filled him with pride. Everyone sensed his feelings and smiled, Aeternus grinned as well. Then Aeternus said, "Yes, it seems that in my life I have taken my father's legacy with me. Even though I have forgotten so much, we are still the same. But we must evolve, and so you must know who I was to understand who you are."
Mortis saw the past of a young god who trained with all weapons. He was a friendly child who loved to play and was kind. But he was afflicted with a great flaw: every newborn or born god could use his abilities, except Aeternus. With his mysterious eyes, he didn't seem to know which god he was or what his ability was. Therefore, he focused more on training and retreated further. Although he was nice, anger and despair spread through him, some of which later turned into hatred. Again and again he wondered why every petty god had mastered his abilities, but he had not. What was he? Why could he do less than others?
As a result, he forgot even his friends and gave himself only to anger. He gave up his weapons, except for the scythe, with which he felt free and could calm down.
He looked at the world of the living and read many books. For the young Aeternus, his life did not have much to offer. He could hardly touch his divinity except through the eyes that showed him the past and the future. He could not have become even a god of a small planet, although his mother and father tried hard. In small moments, he could only create copies of their abilities, but the young god never understood what his true nature was. Only when he was pierced by several weapons to save Fidelia did he see his future and his nature. As he died, he laughed, for never could his name have been truer: Aeternus, the Eternal, the cycle of life and death.
The young god sat before Mortis and said, "As you could see, you now know what we are. But even though we are the cycle, it doesn't mean we have to go through it ourselves. We just have to understand it. And slowly you begin to grasp it. Forget our fear, our insecurity. Get to know everything and live the life as God that was always ours. New me, we are with you, and you will rise higher than we have ever been able to."
Aeternus then approached and merged with Mortis, just like all his previous lives. In doing so, he saw many images of battles with all the beings this universe had to offer. He also saw that there was always something intimidating and holding him back. But Mortis would overcome this and rise to where his place had always been.
Mortis opened his eyes, and his second eye turned red with a silver snake in it that wanted to bite its own tail, representing infinity. Mortis' father flinched, for not only did the eye change, but Mortis radiated a divinity that startled his father. He had never seen his son in such a state, so he nervously asked, "Are you all right, son?" But Mortis smiled, stood up and looked deeply into his father's eyes. He replied, "Yes, I'm fine, father. Because after so long, I know what kind of god I am, or rather, will be, when I leave this world behind." His father tried to keep his composure and just managed to ask, "And my son, what god are you?" Mortis took out his scythe, put it over his shoulder and tried to say coolly, "I am the Eternal One, the cycle of life and death. I am the rebirth."
