chapter 3

the sunlight was almost blinding it was so bright. as he walked outside, cars howled by him. the hot asphalt burned his bare feet. his stomach growled with hunger.

Ding! mission accomplished!

a deafening voice exploded in his head

"what the hell?"

"system installation complete. escape the facility mission complete. 100 point awarded." the voice continued. jim hit his knees, holding his head.

"you appear to be in pain, with no enemies around. would you like me to lower the volume? " the voice boomed.

"yes please! " jim groaned, "then tell me what the hell is going on!" people were starting to stare.

at a much more comfortable volume, the voice advised him to get off the street and guided him to a nearby hotel. jim paid the $40 for one night, and retreated to his room.

"basically, you have the ability to walk through other realms, both other times and other places. because of this, you were given a very rare and powerful system, that many would kill for. I can unlock your past memories for 500 points. or there are other upgrades you can purchase. would you like me to display the screen?"

"yes please." jim replied. his vision was replaced by what looked to be a computer screen.

"also, I read your thoughts you don't have to actually speak. kinda makes you look like a crazy person." the system replied.

'thanks, I'll keep that in mind.' jim thought. 'settings. subtitles activate.'

new mission; equip a full wardrobe

new mission: food

new mission; find a companion for the night

'what's with these missions?' jim thought

"you earn points and sometimes rewards from completing missions. I recommend you purchase at least one perk. it will greatly improve your odds of survival. " the system replied.

'oh joy' jim thought.
