Chapter 9. Past

Lance faced the wall opposite his bed, laying down like a lifeless fish. He couldn't accept the fact that he just cleaned a homicide for someone.

"You're punishing me, right? God. Of course, you are, you must be, is it because I created a devil, I won't do anything bad anymore!

The villain Doom with an excellent hearing next door, "..."

Lance feebly poured out his grievances, "They're both difficult people to handle, and as if they're competing with each other, each one more amazing than the last, almost reaching the Heavens." Lance grumbled about Lucifer and Doom nearly strangling himself with a pillow.

"After all that trouble, I finally made a game that was famous, but it turned out to be the devil in disguise."

The outcome was going to be him making Lucifer happy and not getting fired but it accidentally turned into a horror movie.

Endure a bit, rant a bit, and it will all pass.

A moment later, Lance took a deep breath, got out of bed, stretched his legs and bounced around. He wasn't sure if it was calming himself, but he did feel a little better.

As he looked around the room, he simultaneously thought about his past.

He was named Lance after his father got addicted to buying lands, when he was three years old, his parents divorced and each started new families with their partners and children.

One could say that he had both a mother and a father, but one could also say that he had neither a mother nor a father.

After his grandfather's death, Lance was on his own. Once he got his diploma, he began to design games just like how he and his grandfather used to do.

A few years ago, when he came to L City, Lance relied on his appearance to sell a lot of his games, which made him recruited into his present company, the largest game producer company in the world.

Over time, to cover up the vulnerability of his heart, he adopted a child and named him Lucifer.

He was a man extremely keen to make everyone around him happy, the typical case of someone who would go beyond his means to make everyone pleased with themselves.

Unwilling to make Lucifer receive any hint of pity from others, he acted childish and clumsy to make Lucifer feel that he is he's friends, but that did backfire on him.
