Chapter 8

Erica looked out the window then said, "We could leave a note outside the doorsteps and see if the person who sent us the note will come by and pick it up."

"What if someone else picks it up?" asked Ashley.

"We could leave the note where we found the other note that person left us," said Erica.

"Are you sure it will be safe to put it there?" asked Ashley.

"Yes, I don't think anyone had seen the note before I saw it," said Erica.

"What makes you think that?" asked Ashley.

"Because if anyone had seen it, he or she would have picked it up," replied Erica.

"Are you sure it will be safe?" Ashley asked again.

"Why are you asking so many questions?" asked Erica.

"I'm just worried about someone else finding it. What would we tell them? How would we explain things?" asked Ashley.

"We will come up with something," replied Erica.

"Alright, let's write the note," said Ashley.

Ashley grabbed a sheet of paper from under her table and a black pen from her pencil case.

"What should we write?" asked Ashley.

"Ask the person who he or she is?" said Erica.

"Alright," said Ashley.

Ashley quickly wrote the words down on the note and folded it.

Erica grabbed the note, and said, "Come, let's go outside,"

Ashley followed Erica outside the room and down the hall.

As they reached the door, Ashley's dad asked, "Where are you going?"

"To the yard," Ashley replied.

"Okay, just make sure you don't go in the woods," said Ashley's dad, then he walked away.

Erica put her shoes on and opened the door. Both girls rushed out the door.

"Where should we put it?" asked Ashley.

"There," said Erica, pointing to the shrub. "On the ground, right in front of that bush -- where I found their note."

Erica placed the note on the snowy ground.

"Let's go back in now," said Ashley.

"It's getting dark, so how about we check on this tomorrow?" asked Erica.

"Alright," said Ashley.

"See you tomorrow," said Erica.

They both turned towards their own house and walked away.
