“It will be eventually,” Luke stressed. “We’ve got you, okay? That’s all I’m saying.”

Shane pressed his face into Luke’s neck and kissed the warm skin, closing his eyes against the wave of bitter anger in the middle of his chest. One more year. All Dad had had to do was wait one more year, and this would all have been avoided. One stupid year.

“I have to tell them,” he croaked, and Luke’s grip tightened in an awkward but appreciated hug. “I have to.”
