Chapter 27

“You’re out,” Sophie said to Luke incredulously. “Why don’t you want him to?”

“Because Sergeant Kershaw thinks that gays are all limp-wristed, dance-loving, shirt-lifting pansies and are completely weird and unnatural,” Shane said bitterly.

“Yeah,” Luke added uselessly, and bit his lip. “He’s said some stuff. And the way he looked at me when he came to pick Shane up from the studio the other week…”

“Well, fuck him,” Sophie said bluntly. “If he’s that much of a dick, he’s not your problem. Or your loss.”

“Yeah except he’s not, Soph, he’s my dad. He’s given up everything for me and Jase and…and apart from this, you know…” Shane reddened. “He’s my family,” he said eventually. “Him and Jase, they’re the only constants I ever had, and I don’t want to lose that.”
