“Shout if you need owt,” Dad said as Shane reached the living room door, and Shane nodded. His fingers shivered on the banisters as he headed upstairs, and instead of his room, he headed for the bathroom. The only door in the house with a lock, and he pushed it all the way across before sinking to the tiles and pulling his knees to his chest.

Very vaguely, he was aware that his eyes itched. Hot and insistent.

That would be what Dad thought of him when he found out. A weak, pathetic pretty-boy who was into dance and theatre. And he was wrong, and Shane hated that that was what would happen. Luke was into dance, and Shane supposed he could be called pretty, but that was it. And Shane didn’t like any of that sort of stuff. He liked cadets, and rugby, and fighting with Jason over the remote. He had no idea about things like clothes and shopping and all that girly stuff. He didn’t.
