Chapter 78: Demon, Part 1
Kristof stood still while the servants dragged his hauberk over his head and settled it into place, brisk and efficient. Next came the long surcoatbrand new and part of the wardrobe that had been a wedding present from Éva. It was the deep, rich blue of the priesthood, split up the middle in front and back, and trimmed in thick bands of dark gray that had been embroidered with skulls and roses. Across his breast was the Sacred Heart: a heart broken into three pieces, surrounded by the words of a prayer that were also a spell of protection. Light blue and gold bands sewn across the top of the shoulders marked him as part of the Order of the Voice, and the black and dark blue stripes around the edges of his short sleeves and the front of his right shoulder marked him a Captain.
