Drake did not disturb his mate.
He sighed and went to the bathroom to clean himself.
Meeting his mate was out of his expectations when he was in City M, especially in a black market. He was out for business, but his Beta suddenly vanished from his post, and his car was ridden elsewhere. Someone tried other means to harm him, and the smell of incense with a forbidden drug affected his wolf.
He was pursued in all directions. With his body getting out of control, he rushed to the main road for escape, using the crowd to his advantage. The pursuers had other means to inflict injuries on his body, so he forced his way out. But an unforgettable scent caught his attention.
He thought it was a trap arranged by his enemy. With his senses deteriorating and his focus dwindling, he dragged the woman to an alley and did unimaginable things out of impulsiveness. The woman's struggle made him confirm that she was not an enemy but merely a passerby who was out to buy something from the hand of black merchants. The smell of gunpowder and faint liquor made him realize where she came from.
The kiss injected some energy that calmed his body from rioting. He deepened the kiss, and the woman's anger reached its peak that she bit him hard and made his mouth bleed. His wolf felt eager to possess his mate, so he let his mate drink his blood silently, not knowing it was one of the bonding conditions.
Their meeting was hurried, and he was not fair or upright to his mate. When his enemies were just around the corner, he locked a token of love on her wrist and reluctantly parted with her so as not to implicate and harm her. But deep down, he wanted to get to know her. He desired to stay by her side and ensure her safety until she reached home.
The effect of the drugs in his system was severe hallucination. But with his mate ingesting his blood, a temporary mate's bond was formed between them. The mate's bond helped him suppress the drug's extraordinary effects. He quickly escaped from his pursuers and returned to the secret base of the Bloodstone pack in City M.
'I need my mate.'
When Drake was done bathing, he shifted into his wolf form. A rare white wolf with purple eyes, massive in adult size, appeared in the room where Acceber was sleeping. He was cautious not to wake her up. The temporary mate's bond would also enable the couple to relax in each other's presence so that mates couldn't be enemies on the battlefield.
Drake lay beside Acceber. When Acceber sensed the warmth coming from his body, she slowly moved closer and hugged him. The big white wolf felt like a pillow against Acceber's skin. Drake froze on the spot. He was unable to react when his mate touched him.
The feeling of sparks and tingling felt good on his skin. He slowly relaxed the tensed muscles on his body, afraid it might make Acceber uncomfortable. Acceber unconsciously buried her face into the soft, fluffy, and sweet-smelling fur.
Drake thought their peace would last till morning.
But he was wrong.
Acceber fell into a nightmare. She looked like she was screaming, but no voice could be heard from her mouth. Her posture also seemed like she was struggling to fight someone. Drake could not help but shift back to his human form. He tried to wake up Acceber by shaking her.
"Darling, wake up!"
He shook her a few more times and even pinched her hand, but Acceber was not responding to the pain.
"Wake up!"
The last thing he knew was he subconsciously kissed Acceber and bit her lips. Just enough not to rupture her lower lip. "Wake up!"
'Damn it! I did not even know her name!'
He continued to kiss her till he felt her nails dug into his back's skin.
The kisses stopped when Acceber's eyes opened and stared into him. "Are you okay? Are you awake? Thankfully, you've woken up!" Drake hugged Acceber.
-
Acceber suddenly felt unwell when she went to bed. Her eyes were heavy, and cold sweat covered her body. The room's temperature was not high, but she couldn't tell what was wrong with her.
She entered into a dream.
She found herself standing in the same place where she was dragged to die. Her brother's mocking face while telling her that her second chance at life was just a long dream made her feel unwilling. She doesn't want to believe that all the warmth she felt when she returned to life was a lie.
She could see the hoard of zombies and a woman at the center of the crowd. Her face was blurred, but she could hear her voice loud and clear. "Do you like my present? The good life you have can only be ruined in my hands! You don't deserve what you have today. So, to save everyone, you just need to die voluntarily. Die for everyone!"
The zombies around Acceber also chanted for her to die and sacrifice herself.
Acceber screamed.
She refuted their words desperately.
She wanted them to be gone.
She wished for them to leave her alone.
She screamed till her lungs gave out.
But bloody hands slowly reached for her.
'This is just a dream! I need to wake up.'
Acceber cleared her mind, wanting to find a chance to escape. 'Help! Please! Can somebody help me?'
As if feeling hopeless, a light penetrated the dark sky. Flames burn everything that the light touches. The wailing of the zombies gave Acceber goosebumps, and her hands trembled in unease. A voice was calling her, someone not so familiar.
Warmth spread in her body, like somebody injecting energy into her veins. She patiently waited for her heart to calm down and emptied her mind again. Then, the sensation of being touched and kissed awakened her completely.
Greyish-purple hair and deep purple eyes stared worriedly at her.
The bracelet on her wrist shone brightly as it illuminated the room. Heavy breathing and sweet air greeted her. The man's face was immaculately handsome, like an otherworldly being who came to Earth to save her.
"Who are you?"
