Chapter 42

Noraima patted the girl's shoulder, and informed. "Nana and Bunnelby is staying here with us for a few days. The orphanage has been under construction, and while the other children are accommodated in the dorm rooms of the pokemon center with Professor Sycamore's request, your father and I decided to have Nana stay here with us since we figured she would be more comfortable here."

Caleb looked over at Nana with a smile. Ever since that day, the young girl after being treated became an orphan, she didn't have any other relatives residing in Kalos which even her father was absent, since to begin with according to her, she has never even met the man.

All she had was her Bunnelby, a house pokemon Nana's family had ever since the girl could remember.

What happened to Nana was something she does not deserve. Losing her only family was devastating to say the least, fortunately she still has her Bunnelby, a close kin that Nana treated as a friend and her only family member.

Caleb and his parents frequently visited Nana at the orphanage. Along with Diantha, Eusine and Eclairisse, they would for some time spend quality time with the girl as she grew up.

One might say it was because of sympathy and the guilt they held towards the forlorn girl, but for Caleb and the others as time went by, they took quite a liking to the girl that they even helped her enroll to the city's trainer academia.

Caleb couldn't help smile remembering the day he and his friends surprised her with the proof of enrollment that entails she was admitted to the academia.

It was Nana's dream to become a trainer, and it never changed the child as she grew up, even as she had experienced one of her trauma inducing circumstance.

Nana was a bit nervous, but in her eyes evidently she was estatic seeing Caleb appear. "Hi, Caleb."

Noraima smiled. "I'll leave you to alone, okay? If you need me I'll be in the kitchen making our dinner for tonight."

"Alright, mom."

...

"What are you writing down, Caleb?" Nana's brownish black eyes gazed upon him as she sat down on the couch next to him, with Bunnelby on her arms.

Bunnelby had a jolly nature that Caleb noticed. Although a part of his left ear was chipped because of an injury it did not lower it's adorable looking appearance.

Nana was running her hand through Bunnelby's fur. The rabbit pokemon purred as it enjoyed its person's gentle caressing.

Nana was't overly shy. If anything, she was quite sociable when in front of Caleb and the people that she was familiar with.

Caleb looked over to her with a smile.

"Oh, nothing. I was just writing down some things I gained from today's training. Making sure I would have a reminder and not forget about it." He paused for a moment. Since Nana was trying to become a training like him. It was good to advice her some things, so he said sternly. "You have a Bunnelby, which is actually a very good starter that has a lot of coverage in a battle. Train hard, and study well in class, whatever your goal as a trainer is, it is vital for you to take care and train your pokemon. Most important of all, don't disregard their feelings. Pokemons and humans are scarily similar, remember that Nana."

Nana beamed brightly. Her smile was so cute. "Sure! I want to become a trainer that would be able to protect the people those who I held dear, I'll remember your words, Caleb."

Caleb smiled sadly hearing Nana's reply. It seemed that her motivation was surely because of what happened. It was either a good thing or a bad thing, Caleb swore that he would be by her aid whenever she was in difficultly.

They then continued to talk about Nana's school and how she was fairing on herself.

As they talked, Nana felt a sudden surge of warmth in her chest.

Nana's social life among her peers wasn't the best. It hadn't been for a while. Ever since the first horror of her life doomed her lifestyle.

But Caleb acted as a beacon of light that was seperate from all of that. And Nana never stopped appreciating her time with him for that.

...

The next day, Caleb's eye slowly opened as he looked at the walls in his room that was plastered with all kinds of posters.

Rubbing his eyes, Caleb sat up. But didn't leave his bed yet as he blankly stared at the air.

Then, yesterday's training came flooding on his mind.

Yesterday... Hadn't been great. Today was not any better since he would be training at that forest once again this morning.

Welp, at least he had noticed that this kind of training was significantly good for him and Magby.

At least his strength as a trainer would go stronger. That was always a silver lining, right?

With that he sighed as he got out of his room and came downstairs.

He was greeted by Bunnelby who was hanging his legs by the side of the stairs.

"Morning, Bunnelby." Caleb yawned and groggily greeted the rabit pokemon.

Bunnelby cooed in response then it got up and jumped on Caleb's head.

"Hey, hahahaha cut that out." Caleb playfully waved his hands in the air as he got down.

Nana was waiting in the dining room with his parents.

He smiled and said. "What's for breakfast?"

...

A few days passed with that manner. In this short span of time, Caleb's cycle was training in the forest (Well, mostly running aways from strong Pokemons), battling certified new trainers from the Avenue, and hanging out with Nana and his family.

Although it was a repeat of everything, Caleb enjoyed it nonetheless.

Today, the selection for students who will participate in the Rookie Tournament has finally arrived.
