Chapter 21

According to Eusine's Intel, the special selection would begin in two weeks.

After that day, it seemed that it was accurate. Since as soon as their first lecture began, the teacher didn't do anything but inform them about a selection process which would include all the fourth, fifth and sixth year students.

Naturally, there were a couple of students in each class who abandoned participating since they have different interests in mind.

Regardless, the average people within each class participating ranged from 5-10. Since there are a lot of students from Class E and F class, according to the teachers there would be around sixthy on both those classes participating added together.

Two weeks was not too long or too short, Caleb and his friends still have plenty of time to prepare on that day since they decided to also join in the fun.

They were surprised when Eclairisse shared that she also was joining. They were surprised since she wasn't that fond of fighting, but had more interest towards the department of pokemon research.

Nevertheless, they were happy that all four of them were gonna participate.

After school and shortly hanging out with his friends they separated to go to their own home.

Caleb was now currently at their house. In the backyard, he was standing there while thinking over what he and his partner would train for today.

Usually, after school he would go towards his grandfather's office and have him train him since that was what happened normally.

But, he was notified that he was busy with something important so he was going to self-train for today.

He doesn't mind it though. After he thought of what they were going to do, Caleb released Magby as he pressed on the PokeBall on his neck.

With a flash of red light, Magby appeared casually.

"Buddy, let's train your move, Flame Wheel for a bit. Since it needed practice." Caleb moved near his partner and patted his warm head.

Magby nodded.

They quickly got to their preparation and found a boulder not far away. They used it as a dummy a couple of times and it is very convenient to train upon some of Magby's range and close combat moves.

"Use it on the boulder, let's see how much you have mastered the move Magby." Caleb said as he paid extra attention.

Magby once again nodded obediently.

Flame Wheel was one of the moves Caleb was experimenting on. On what was shown in the anime, not a lot of times were shown that trainers having their pokemon perform a move uniquely.

This was also applied to this world too. However, Caleb thought differently.

Instead of spinning while positioning himself to a summersault. Magby wrapped his feet with his high-tempered flames, then he flipped onto his hands and spins rapidly, creating a wheel of fire around him not unlike a break dance move, head spin.

As Magby kept on spinning the more the range of the wheel of flame's range spread the area. Magby still had a hard time moving around his desired direction since all he could see was a blur as he was spinning.

But, since he has already practiced this a hundred times with Caleb's guidance. He moved near the boulder after so much time.

*Bang* *Bang* *Bang* *Bang*

When four whips of flames landed on the boulder, Magby lost the momentum and stopped.

He propelled himself upwards, as he used his arms to push the ground.

"Now mid-air use Flamethrower!"

Magby took a long breath before releasing a huge pillar of fire from his mouth.

*Boom!*

Before the smokes could even subside, Caleb once again threw another command. "Now full power Fire Punch."

Right when Magby's foot touched the ground, he positioned himself to a full burst sprint before disappearing from his position with two blazing knuckles. He moved so fast that one could only see a red blur with two fiery red streaks.

*Bang!* *Bang!*

When the attacks resounded. Magby left the smoke with a slow backflip, returning to Caleb's front immediately.

They have been training this combo with constant practice. They didn't held themselves back this time as this was their full power shown.

When the black smokes disappeared, one could see massive craters resulting from Magby's ferocious bombardment of moves.

"Not bad, but we still need much more to learn. Your Flame Wheel needed more power in them, although it compensates for its capability in surrounding your immediate area, not allowing your opponent a chance to get near you. Forcefully going through it would only result in severe damage to the other party with such a circular wall of flames around you. It would incinerate multiple targets... But, it would be much better and improvised if you are spinning much faster and putting more output to your flames. I know that's your limit, I was just pointing out what we needed to work on buddy." Caleb smiled seeing his pokemon's annoyed face, he was already becoming used to his hot-headedness. "Aside from that, your dual Fire Punches, and Flamethrower are impressive."

Magby smiled at the complement and this boosted the fire-type's ego. Forgetting what his partner had commented upon on his hard to do, Flame Wheel.

Speaking of that move, Caleb knew that wasn't supposed to be how a pokemon would do a Flame Wheel. This was one of the moves he hypothetically made in his mind.

Instead of a direct spinning wheel of flame that would seem to look like a tire spinning. Why not a spinning wheel that could secure a range for the pokemon to work and stabilize himself in difficult scenarios?

It was either a much simpler and direct powerful move. Or a much more innovative move that could be used in many more situations.

Naturally, Caleb chose the latter.

Alas, this move was a great pain to even perform more than theory. It was only after weeks of training did Magby finally get his first and proper improvised 'Flame Wheel'!

And after months of constant practice, Magby got to the mastery he had today after much painstakingly doing so much hardwork.

Caleb smiled upon his pokemon proudly, not bothering it on his egoistic puffing fumes of flames after he received a compliment.

"Alright, let's continue our training. Let's do our usual regime. After that let's spar, then work on your Fire Spin much further."

Magby nodded with no complaints, since the pokemon really felt himself becoming stronger day by day, and he was satisfied with this feeling that it was so addictive.

Additionally, this type of bond, suited the fire-type better making them much more connected physically and mentally.

Inside Caleb's mind, the golden, rainbow hued seed emitted a pulse of red glow, before it flowed to the fire that was connected to it. Making it bigger and much more hot to look at.
