It appeared that she was looking forward to our discussion of Pokemon. Alice gave a grin that was tucked to the corner of her mouth. "Which of your Pokemon are you currently carrying?"

When I was asked to respond, I was hesitant. I was going to give June another acknowledgment.

During that precise instant, something prompted me to simply spit it out.

"Only a Torchic is available to me. She goes by the name of June."

Alice began to show signs of life. As we talked in the hallway, I noticed that I was gradually becoming more at ease with the situation. After a while, we continued our discussion inside of my bedroom. I reclined on my mattress, and she took a seat at the foot of the bed.

She inquired about my Pokemon collection. I dug around in the bottom of my backpack until I found June's PokeBall, and then I released her outside. Almost instantly, June started chirping excitedly as she ran around the room.

When was the last time that June was allowed to go outside?

I was required to give it some thought. I can only recall letting June out of the house once between the time I first received it from my brother and the present day, and that was just before I started on the path that leads to Cherrygrove.

I responded with "somewhere between two and three days ago."

I got a reprimand from Alice.

"What the hell could possibly be wrong with you?" She got to her feet and pushed the window open. June ran out of the house. I sat up.

"Seeing as how you just got her, she will come back, but you should let her out more often. When you spend less time with her, she will pay less attention to what you have to say."

I showed compliance by nodding in agreement, but in my head I was debating whether or not I would actually carry out the instruction.

When Alice looked up, she noticed a clock hanging on the wall directly above my head. She then brought my attention to the clock by pointing it out to me. It was ten o'clock in the morning. She informed me that she would be leaving early in the morning to travel through some woods in order to get to Azalea Town. I inquired about the next step I should take from her. I was able to hear June chirping from the yard before she climbed up onto the windowsill and entered the room next to mine.

"You have the option of going to Violet City. If you're interested in working out, there's a gym in that location. If you give June the proper amount of training, I have no doubt that she will earn you a badge. You could also make use of her to earn money for the both of you by simply challenging other trainers to battles."

I started to think about the possibility. I had a balance of 350 dollars remaining in my account. Additionally, I found that taking on more difficult trainers was more beneficial to me than obtaining a badge. After that, I recalled that Alice had earlier mentioned to the boy that she had fought to obtain at least three badges. I inquired of her regarding it.

"You can become a Pokemon Ranger if you have three badges, which I guess a lot of Pokemon Trainers would want to be because you get free food, shelter, and money in exchange for obeying the orders of Pokemon League Champions. If you have three badges, you can become a Pokemon Ranger. You could also become a fitness instructor and launch your own gym."

It piqued my interest. I've always been aware that in order to compete in the annual Pokemon League Championships, one needs to have won at least eight badges. I didn't watch any of the fights on TV, but I was always curious about what happened to the people who didn't win. I questioned Alice on the matter. The more she heard about the Pokemon League, the more fascinated she became by it. She rolled over onto her stomach on my bed, supporting her head with her arms, and kicked her feet up in the air as she did so.

"If you collect eight badges, you will no longer be required to work as a trainer. If you wait until then, you won't have the opportunity to compete in the Pokemon League Championship."

Her squeal came out of the blue. It was far too adorable to be true. I had no choice but to face the opposite direction, away from her. The image of her that I was having in my head at the moment was at odds with the intimidating demeanour that she had displayed earlier.

"All right, I guess it's time for bed." She got out of bed. "Whatever it is that you choose to do, I wish you the best of luck and hope that everything works out for you."

"Same to you," I responded to him.

"It would be great if we could get together again. If we don't end up working together, it was great to finally meet you."

It made me chuckle. "Same. Make sure the door is locked behind you."

She departed. I got to my feet and slammed the window shut. I came to the conclusion that it would be best if June slept in my bed. On the floor, she was apparently sleeping when I found her. I went over to her and helped her get situated on the bed. I hung up my journal, turned off the lamp, and got as close to June as I could. Her body was just as warm as I remembered it being, and it appeared as though her temperature was increasing with each breath that she took. It was my snout that fluttered her feathers.

I pondered the existence of Alice. At the time, I didn't know very much about her, but based on what I saw, she was very enthusiastic about being a Pokemon Trainer. I couldn't help but wonder what her objective was and why she seemed so committed to achieving it, especially considering how hesitant I was to even let the Pokemon I was letting sleep beside me. It's likely that the boy she fought was going through the same thing himself.

I gave June's wing a light rub. I came to the realisation that Alice would not be the only trainer who would like to compete against me, and that they would most certainly ask for more than ten dollars; in addition, I became aware of the fact that I was a 13-year-old girl who was out by herself. A bird that can breathe fire would be an excellent form of defence in any situation.

Suddenly, I found myself thinking about Alice again. I had no idea how old she was, but she didn't appear to be all that much older than me, and many girls my age were already taller than I was. I had no idea how old she was. It appeared as though she was travelling by herself as well. To be that kind of girl all by herself seemed like a bad idea to me, but in the back of my mind, I figured that her Pokemon were good enough protection for her with the way that she handled her Squirtle. She wasn't ugly by any stretch of the imagination, so being that kind of girl all by herself seemed like a bad idea. Was she evicted from her home in the same manner that I was? Her demeanour was undeniably upbeat.

I began to drift to sleep. My final thought was about the circumstances surrounding my eviction from my previous residence. My family did nothing to address the issue, despite the fact that I was confident that I was not the only child who had experienced that. Due to my poor academic performance, I was given the opportunity to become a Pokemon Trainer.

"Why?" I asked myself. I'm sure the response was straightforward and I'm sure it was, but at the time, I was just a kid. In order to find the answer, I will need to broaden both my mind and my interests.

Children are just naturally naive by nature. You can't hold that against them.
