"You sure you want to learn Eight direcion fist with me?" Stephanie asked, deciding to shift the topic away from Pokémon.
The last conversation had left her feeling a bit inferior, especially as her eyes were drawn to Lucario, who was diligently practicing Calm Mind to harness its aura powers.
"Of course," Ashborn nodded confidently.
He had begun learning Eight direction fists after achieving a Mega Pallet Town physique, wanting to maximize his physical abilities.
The name itself was appealing; with Taiji calming the world, Baji had the power to stabilize it.
Eight direction fists had been around for ages, and the reputation of its various schools in Xortros made it even more enticing.
Knowing that Stephanie's family was one of the leading names in eight direction fists in Xortros, Ashborn felt lucky to have her as a potential instructor.
"You just need to teach me the moves that can be passed down," he added.
In martial arts, knowledge was often closely held within families or sects, and Ashborn knew he wouldn't be allowed to learn the core moves of the Shen family.
However, he didn't mind; ordinary techniques would be enough for him. With his Psychic physique, he could amplify the effectiveness of the moves he learned.
The thought of someday battling Machamp or matching Lucario excited him.
"I haven't learned the core moves yet, so don't get your hopes up," Stephanie replied, shaking her head.
Her family had rules about passing down the core moves, and while she was a direct descendant with a strong mind, the core techniques were strictly reserved for a select few.
"Well, that's kind of dumb," Ashborn said bluntly.
Stephanie was taken aback, her expression shifting to one of confusion and irritation.
"Why are you looking at me like that? I'm just being honest! I'm almost eighteen, and I still haven't learned the core moves. That's not my fault!"
"Don't you want to learn boxing? First, you need to practice your horse stance," she instructed.
Stephanie watched as Ashborn's face paled at the thought. "How long do I have to do it?"
"Until the sun goes down."
Ashborn frowned. It was only nine in the morning, which meant a long day of standing.
"I didn't mean to make fun of you. The horse stance is essential; if you don't practice, I'll have to leave." Seeing Ashborn's doubtful look, Stephanie felt a bit guilty.
If Ashborn couldn't commit to this basic training, he wouldn't stand a chance at advancing.

**Seven Days Later**
In the backyard, Stephanie's face was tight with frustration.
Her confidence had drained away over the past week as she watched Ashborn execute eight direction fists moves flawlessly, each punch and kick resonating with an incredible force.
After two days of squats and five days of fist training, Ashborn had become adept, reaching a level of proficiency that left Stephanie in disbelief.
What she had once viewed as her strong suit—martial arts—was now overshadowed by Ashborn's extraordinary progress. It was as if he had transcended the human form itself.
"Teacher Shen, am I getting better than yesterday?" Ashborn asked with a cheerful grin, oblivious to the internal conflict raging within Stephanie.
"Eh, it's alright. But don't get too cocky. I achieved this level in just three days!" she replied, forcing her voice to stay calm.
Ashborn's genuine admiration for her left her feeling conflicted.
"Well, I think you're amazing, Teacher Shen!" he said, giving her a thumbs up.
Stephanie couldn't help but puff up her chest at the compliment, her earlier annoyance fading for a moment.
"You should know that you still have a long way to go!" she said, trying to regain her sense of authority.
At that moment, she felt a surge of pride in her own abilities. "From now on, you can practice on your own. I've taught you all I can."
Ashborn nodded, satisfied with his progress.
"When do you plan to go to Imperial University?" Stephanie asked, shifting topics.
September 1st was the opening day for most colleges, and both she and Ashborn were special recruits at Imperial College.
They were expected to attend together.
"I think I'll go on the 25th," Ashborn said casually.
"Then I'll go with you!" Stephanie declared.
"Why do you need to go?" Ashborn asked, intrigued.
"I want to visit a friend of my grandpa in the imperial capital. He's a heir," she explained.
Ashborn nodded, acknowledging her plans. He didn't know much about martial arts, other than what he had learned from Stephanie.
"I'll also be visiting my Aunt. She has been doing research on a pokemon.
She told me a few days ago that it's almost finished and that I need to sign a paper as a co-author with her," Ashborn added.
He'd discovered Slowking's evolutionary form, so his name would be on the paper, even if he hadn't done the actual writing.
After finalizing their plans to head to the capital on the 25th, Stephanie bid farewell to Ashborn's parents.
"Come back tomorrow," Father Valor said warmly as they parted.
"Come again? I'm afraid there might be no serious illness to treat next time," Stephanie joked, laughing as she stepped out the door.
