Chapter 44: The Final Act
Julien’s POV
I barely acknowledge Vaskar as he addresses me by my other name. My focus is centered on finding Cionna. I scan the area and find the barrier’s edge. Without another word, I pass him and place my palms against the invisible wall. I take a deep breath and instantly feel the energy fizzle and pop beneath my touch.
Vaskar stands nearby and watches as I tear an opening through the wall separating me from Cionna and enter hastily to find her. To my irritation, he follows behind me.
“You must not value your life,” I warn him.
“More than you might think, but I want to make sure she’s all right as well. Lord Balast just left her and from what he said…” He paused in thought.
“What did he say?’”
Vaskar stays silent and slips by me to walk ahead. My irritation increases with his every step.
“What did he say, Vaskar?”
“He said she was his, but not in the way she hoped.”
