"Thank you for coming, hope to see you again." Said Peace McCall to the last customer that came to buy a burger from her stand before her phone rang playing one of Nicki Minaj's highschool. "Who is it this time? I haven't really received a phone call all day." She looked at the phone screen and it wasn't a saved number. She picked it up. "Hello." The next thing she heard made her heart almost jump out of her chest. "Which hospital?!" After she got the info that she wanted, she pulled off her apron and dropped it on the table and it was right at that moment that the manager came to relay an errand to her but she was in a haste and didn't even look his way.
"Where the hell are you going?!" He yelled and instead of a reply, she dashed out of the store.
Peace already knew the kind of boss she had and the kind of thing that he would do as soon as she returned but at that heated moment, she couldn't care less. While she was inside, she had gotten a call from Blue Fountain Hospital that her father was rushed by some nice people who witnessed him slumping and fainting by the roadside. She ran as fast as her legs could while waving down at any taxi she set her eyes on. Normally she didn't have difficulty getting a taxi but today of all days, it seemed as though they had all gone on a strike.
Her adrenaline pumped so fast as she began to imagine different scenarios concerning her father's condition and still praying in her heart that God would have mercy on her and send her a taxi. It hadn't been long after the prayer that a taxi stopped and she got in.
"Please take me to Blue Fountain Hospital." She said urgently to the cab man and he drove away.
...
30 minutes later...
She found herself at the hospital. What a big hospital that was and she wondered if she would be able to find her father in such a big place. She got to the reception hall and met with the receptionist going straight to the point to mention the name of the person that she was looking for.
"David McCall. Please, I'm looking for David McCall." She sounded urgent but the nurse had to take her time to get the info ready.
"Relationship with patient?" The nurse inquired.
"He is my father."
"And your name?"
"Peace McCall." She answered.
"Alright he is in Ward 88, third floor."
"Thank you very much." Peace left the reception hall and now she was confused on whether she should take the stairs or the elevator. She decided to take the elevator since it would be faster for her. She went towards the elevator area and pressed a button and it opened. There was someone in it with her but she was in a hurry to leave so she didn't bother to say hello to the young man.
It happened to be that the person she shared the elevator with was Mario Stone but she didn't notice him. Mario stood behind her and somehow he felt that there was something familiar about her. He couldn't see her face from where he stood and didn't want to embarrass both himself and her by trying to see her face. He ignored it eventually but noticed her shaky hands and her legs wobbling. Something was definitely wrong with this girl. It was a hospital after all -- the more reason he could justify the tensed up ambience around her. It wasn't like he cared anyway, besides he had his own life troubles to handle -- one of them being that he was now in charge of the People's Welfare Org. The Blue Fountain Hospital was one of the projects that his father built under the People's Welfare Org and he decided to come take a tour around it and see what was happening inside.
The elevator soon beeped a sound and the door opened and Peace got off immediately heading to her destination while the door closed back and Mario remained inside. He was heading for the seventh floor -- that was where the administration department was situated and that was where he was going to. On this day, he visited the hospital with none of his guards or an assistant. Just him and all dressed in casual clothes and a face cap as he didn't want the attention of the media and all the paparazzi's shit.
He finally got to his destination and took a tour around each administrative department. He was impressed to see that those that were left in charge of the hospital affairs were handling it quite well and so, he didn't have much to do. As soon as he was done with what he came to do there, he thought of going home to his boredom but decided to stay some more --but this time he was going to walk outside the patient's room, peering through their windows and seeing different people with different sicknesses.
He soon started strolling through the corridors, his hands folded to the pack as he peeped at the patients from the transparent window. Some were all snuggled up with oxygen mask and he could hear the beeping sounds of whatever machines they were connected to, while some people were connected to blood drips while some whom he considered as lucky were just lying on the bed covered half way with blankets, at least they weren't connected to huge machines like the others. While he was busy observing these people, he felt no pity for them. His face was still so still and stern that it almost felt as though they were all normal and he didn't feel the slightest stroke of emotion for them. The hospital was his now as his father had now willed everything to him and he felt that the patients should be the ones showing their gratitude to him instead since the organization paid a quarter of each patient's hospital bills.
Mario had already strolled round different wards in the 6th, 5th and 4th floor respectively. He checked the time in his watch and saw that it was past 5 in the evening. He still had more time as there was absolutely nothing for him to do at home. He then decided to go to the 3rd floor and see what was happening there.
He continued strolling down the corridors the way that he had been doing with the previous wards until he saw her again. The same woman he saw in the elevator. He watched her through the window as she sat beside a man who appeared to be unconscious or sleeping, but there was something else... She appeared to be crying. Though she had her back towards him and he couldn't see her face, he could see tiny drops of tears falling onto her arms and to the sheets. She eventually stood up from her seat, gave the sleeping man a kiss on the forehead, then she opened the door and came out and that was when Mario saw who she was -- she was the same girl that rained inferno with her mouth on him at his father's business launch. It was her.
