Player of Trials

Our main character, Leon, dies in an unfortunate event. But it was not an end for him. After his death, he founds himself in a weird place. A system pops up and gives him trials. But what are these trials, and why he needs to complete them? Who created this place, and what is his intention? With each trial, he gets stronger and stronger. But most importantly, what will he do after gaining an unstoppable power? I will also be posting this novel on RoyalRoad.com (The cover's background image doesn't belong to me. So, if anyone knows the artist, let me know and I will credit them.)

Waves

After seeing some unpleasurable "happy dreams" some weeks ago, Leon is now emptying his mind with training by improving his mastery of the [Violet Sun Martial Arts].

While trying to apply these martial art moves without making mistakes, Leon would send a kick, a punch into the air, or do some swift footwork. He knows what he should do in his mind, but adapting to these movements in reality is the real hardship. Like you can imagine doing a back-flip, but you aren't able to perform it like you planned. What Leon felt was exactly like this.

After buying it from the store, the technique actually marked everything he has to do in his mind, but doing them at the right time, without mistaking where every move should go for even not mistaking one inch, so Leon needs a lot of practice in each move of this martial art.

'Right kick with 60 degrees...'

'Defensive punch...'

'Now jumping knee strike...'

These were only things that were going through his mind while practicing it.

'I wish... instead of...'

Before causing him to fall on to the ground by doing the move wrong, a voice echoed through his mind.

As if like the whispers can hear him, "Fuck, just get out of my mind!" Leon gritted his teeth in anger. It was clear from his behavior that this wasn't the first time this had happened to him. And it seems it won't be the last.

The beginning of this torture didn't just affect his training, it also affected his daily life too, by making Leon sleep less or confusing him while doing a certain move.

Sitting on the ground of the hub, "*Sigh* System, show me the last notifications," Leon commanded while giving out a sigh.

After completing the 72th trial, Leon just focused himself on training. Except [Violet Sun Martial Arts] and [Rising Novice Cultivation Technique], he reached rank 2 in every technique and spell.

During his training, Leon found out new things about his spells. He can change what flame his spells use. By meaning that, instead of using normal flames, using [Crimson Flames]. Well, to be honest, they are much more cool and dangerously deadly compared to normal flames. But every power comes with a price. Using them also dries Leon's MP bar faster.

Resting on the white ground, "Hmm, I have been training almost non-stop until now. And there is not much to do here other than training. I guess it's time to complete another trial," Leon said before getting up from the ground.

Leon stretches his muscles to get ready for the battle before starting the trial.

[DO PLAYER WANT TO GO THE NEXT TRIAL?]

"Yes," Leon says while getting the Torchlight out of inventory.

[TRIAL-73 IS STARTING NOW…]

Expecting his surroundings to change, Leon looked around to see what the light would do this time.

"Ha? Why is the environment not changing? Did the trials break down?" Leon said after waiting for a few seconds, seeing nothing is changing.

Like showing him nothing is wrong about the system, a panel appeared in front of him.

[SURVIVE THROUGH 10 WAVES]

"So nothing is broken down..." Leon said in a disappointed voice tone.

Unsheathing the Torchlight, "Whatever, this is new. I wonder who designed these trials. Or should I say what kind of psychopath designed it?," Leon said, while waiting for something to happen.

[FIRST WAVE IS STARTING WITHIN 3 SECONDS]

[!<0>!]

With the end of countdown, the light gave life to Leon's enemy. Green skin, muscular body, pointed ears, and those teeth that upper part of it comes out from their mouth, Leon knew what they were.

"Orcs..." Leon murmured while looking at the creation of the light.

[Forest Orc Lv.17]

As this wasn't the first time he encountered them, "Pure strength mixed with an unyielding fighting spirit… A worthy opponent," Leon said as the orcs started running towards him altogether.

'Hmm, thirty huh?,' Leon counted their number in his mind.

Getting close enough to Leon, the first foe, sends a heavy strike that will end up doing nothing else than just cutting the air.

*Slash*

Dodging the orc's battle ax just with a slight move, "But… Without technique, strength alone means nothing to those who are stronger than you," Leon said as he sent his head off flying.

While the blood flowed out like a fountain from the orc's headless body, which fell to the ground, Leon moved towards the rest of them.

"Don't worry, all of you will learn!" Leon smiled as he jumped on one of them.

*Slash*

The poor orc couldn't even resist against Leon's attack for a second before the Torchlight opened inside of his head.

'2 gone, 28 left,' Leon thought before sensing a strike behind him. With swift footwork, Leon dodges a battle ax that hit where he stood just a second.

Recalling why he should never underestimate his enemy, "That was close. I guess I underestimated you," Leon said as he slashed the orc in two.

After running towards a group of them with his inhumane speed, and swinging his sword like an art piece, three orc bodies fell to the ground with a deep wound on them.

Seeing another one coming towards him, "Great, I will try on you," Leon said while smirking.

[-120 MP] [MP: 840/960]

Pointing the orc with his open hand, "Burning Veins!" Leon said before a magic circle appeared on his hand. But different from previous times, this time, there was nothing that changed on Leon. Rather than Leon, the effects started showing on the orc.

When the flames flowed in the orc's veins, he sent out a cry while falling on the ground in pain. Feeling an immense amount of damage all over his body, the orc's body started trembling. As the flames burned inner parts of his body, the orc only could scream while suffering. After the flames reached the veins in his brain, killing him instantly, it freed him from this cruel torture.

"Hmm, as I thought. If I use the spell on someone who isn't prone to the fire element, rather than giving them strength, it will destroy them," Leon said while observing the orc's body.

Turning his head to the rest of them, "However, I will need some more tests," Leon maliciously smirked as another magic circle appeared on his hand.
