"Humanity, foolish humanity."
"I offer you a contract: feed me the human known as Denji, a corpse will suffice."
"Comply, and the other devil hunters may leave this place unharmed."
"Come, sign a contract with me!"
...
"Denji? You are Denji?"
Abel followed everyone's gaze and looked at the blond man.
Then, Abel recalled the description in the prayer request he once read, I'm Denji, sold my own eye, a kidney, and a...
"So, this guy is that tragic protagonist who sold almost all of his organs but is still fixated on bidding farewell to his virginity?"
"What, you know me?"
Abel didn't reply. He just gave him a meaningful glance, unnerving the man.
"Denji, I beg you, please die!"
At that moment, Kobeni, the weeping woman now standing further back, suddenly drew a knife and stabbed at Denji.
However, her lack of skill led to her weapon being seized by Aki, who then let Himeno knock her out with a punch.
"Hey, even if you really kill me, that thing won't let us go, will it?" Denji said.
"That's where you're wrong. It mentioned a contract, didn't it?"
"The word of a demon carries strong bindings; if one side holds up their end, the other must as well. Breaking a contract results in only one outcome, death."
"So, as long as we kill Denji here, we will definitely be able to get out."
"Oh, I see, that makes things a lot simpler."
Abel nodded then suddenly snatched the fruit knife from Aki's hand, previously with Himeno, and before anyone could react, he plunged it into Denji's head.
It went in through the left temple, with the tip emerging from the right temple.
"Denji!?"
"What are you doing!"
Abel replied bizarrely, "Obviously leaving. Don't you all want to leave as well?"
"I agree! I've been wanting to kill him for a long time."
The woman with two horns on her head claimed to be ancient and shouted excitedly.
The extra in a suit also strongly agreed, "If we kill him, we can go find a countermeasure, or we'll be trapped here forever until we starve to death."
However, Aki was enraged, "This demon would rather let all of us go than to kill Denji. This means it greatly fears and dreads Denji's existence."
"And we are devil hunters, our only targets should be demons!"
Abel said, "Let me correct you on one thing, I'm not a devil hunter, so I don't care whether the one I kill is a demon or a human."
"Besides, if you were capable of killing this disgusting creature, we wouldn't still be here."
This harsh reality silenced Aki for a moment.
Because of their isolation from the outside world, Aki couldn't summon the fox demon he had a contract with.
What made matters even more frustrating was that the disgusting mass in front of him wasn't the enemy's main body. Attacking it would only cause it to multiply and split rapidly, to no effect.
Is there really no other way?
No, I still have 'the knife.'
Noticing his thoughts, Himeno immediately stepped in front of him and said with a serious expression, "Absolutely not, don't even think about it. Using that will drastically reduce your lifespan. If that's the case, I can only agree to killing Denji here."Just then, Denji finally regained consciousness and cursed angrily, "Damn it, do you have any idea how impolite it is to stab someone in the head with a knife, not to mention how painful it is?!"
The woman with long horns had already removed the knife from his head, and now even the wound had disappeared.
"Are you a demon as well?"
Abel asked curiously, gazing at him.
Himeno then explained again, "Denji is not a demon; a demon has fused with his heart, so he possesses some demonic abilities. As long as he replenishes his blood, he can heal himself."
Abel nodded thoughtfully, seemingly understanding what a 'Weapon Human' truly was.
A special amalgamation that's neither human nor demon.
"So, the weakness would be the heart?"
Sawaki Aki scolded his partner for spilling too many details, saying, "Senior Himeno, you've said too much. This isn't something we should tell someone who isn't even a demon hunter."
"It's fine, Aki, you're always so old-fashioned," Himeno replied nonchalantly.
In reality, she was deliberately revealing this information, knowing that if it ever came down to a critical choice, she would sacrifice Denji without hesitation.
Interestingly enough, Denji, despite being targeted by many, didn't show any sign of anger; his expression remained calm.
As if he had seen this all before.
"Feed me Denji, give me Denji!"
Seemingly frustrated with their lack of consensus, the agglomeration of rotting flesh began to rage, expanding tenfold and surging towards the group.
The group immediately started to flee, but with only so much space on the 8th floor, where could they possibly escape?
In a flash, they were cornered into a room, the world spinning around them!
All that lay before them now was an endless abyss, with the monstrous amalgamation below, mouths agape, clamoring for them to hand over Denji.
"I need a 'knife.'"
"No way, absolutely not!"
Himeno first rejected Aki's proposal and then, using the ghost demon she had under contract, restrained him.
Then she turned to Denji, saying, "Aki still has a lot to do, so I'm sorry, little brother Denji."
Suddenly a man in a suit tackled Denji to the ground, while a newly awakened Kurenai produced another knife, ready to join in the deed.
At this point, Abel abstained from further involvement.
He looked quietly down below and suddenly asked, "Is it true that destroying this thing's heart would kill it?"
Himeno replied, "Yes, that's correct. But this demon has certainly hidden its heart very deep. Finding its heart among all these chunks of flesh in a short time is nearly impossible."
Why stress the word 'quickly'?
Because if you're not quick enough, you'll be dead first.
Surely nobody thinks this demon is harmless, right?!
But Abel thought differently, "That at least proves the heart is inside its body, right?"
Himeno nodded, not understanding his point.
"I need to borrow this."
Suddenly, Abel snatched the knife from Kobeni's hands and walked to the edge of the room.
While activating the [Heart of the Ghost] talent, he sliced open his wrist with the knife, starting to bleed.
