“I’m sure he misses her like crazy,” I said. “He never was one for public displays of emotion or affection. You remember that awkward pat on the shoulder he gave you when you aced your bar exam?”

Vee huffed out a sound somewhere between a snort and a laugh. “Oh my God, I had forgotten. A robot would have shown more pride and encouragement.”

“There you go. You know he’s proud of you, he doesn’t know how to show it. I’m sure he’s sad behind closed doors.”

He nodded and heaved out a deep sigh. “Thank you.”

The darkness had won the battle over the light, and a myriad of stars blinked to life over our heads. The moon was nothing more than a sliver and it looked like I could break it in half if I only could reach it. I leaned my head back and took in the breathtaking show of the Universe.

Vee sighed. “I haven’t stargazed since we broke up.”
