chapter 2 Have you offended someone?

Pei Nian returned home. She now lived in the messiest civilian slum in Chongcheng. The old mansion had been sold to pay off debts, so it was already remarkable that she could still live in such a place. As soon as she entered the living room, her phone rang. It was the caregiver she had hired, and she cleared her throat before answering, "Hello, sister-in-law?"

The sister-in-law asked softly on the other end, "Miss Pei, did you manage to raise the money?"

Pei Nian smiled bitterly, "Not yet."

The sister-in-law was disappointed when she heard this. "What should we do then? Miss Pei, the hospital called again today, and there are only three days left."

Pei Nian felt powerless and frustrated, but she still tried to reassure her sister-in-law, "Don't worry, sister-in-law. There are still two days left. I will raise the money for sure."

Knowing that she was under a lot of pressure, the sister-in-law didn't say anything more. "Okay then, Miss Pei, it's getting late. You should rest early."

Pei Nian gave a faint response before hanging up. She leaned back on the sofa, putting her hand over her eyes and letting out a frustrated breath.

For now, the most important thing was to raise the money for her father's surgery. She didn't want to think about anything else.

The next day, Pei Nian arrived at the company and went to see her agent, Sister Fen. Sister Fen was on the phone with someone and ended the call abruptly when she saw Pei Nian coming. She glared at her and sneered, "Pei Nian, you still have the nerve to come and see me?"

Pei Nian knew she was in the wrong and didn't explain. She lowered her head and silently accepted the blame. "Sister Fen, I'm sorry..."

Pei Nian, I went through so much trouble to find this opportunity for you, but you not only didn't appreciate it, you messed it up. How could you still think you're some rich lady and expect people to beg you on their knees?" Upon hearing these humiliating words, Pei Nian pulled a bitter smile and said, "I know I let you down, and I'm sorry for that." However, Fen Jie's expression didn't soften at all. "You know you let me down? Let me tell you, not only did you get me scolded by the boss, but you also offended someone so badly that you can't even imagine."

Pei Nian was shocked by the severity of the situation and felt even more guilty. She took full responsibility and said, "Fen Jie, I'm truly sorry. I'm willing to take full responsibility for the consequences."

"Enough," Fen Jie impatiently interrupted her. "What can you even take responsibility for? You should pack your things and leave this place!"

Pei Nian looked up at her, seeming to not fully understand her meaning. "Fen Jie..."

"What are you looking at?" Fen Jie retorted. "You've offended someone, and you think the whole company should suffer with you?"

Pei Nian snapped out of her daze, and her eyes dimmed as she said, "I understand. Fen Jie, no matter what, thank you for helping me this time."

Fen Jie paused for a moment, then sighed. "Alright, Pei Nian. Let me give you some advice. You should go and apologize to that sponsor, and be more obedient. Otherwise, if you offend him, you won't be able to stay in Chong City."

Pei Nian nodded and said, "Fen Jie, don't worry. I know what to do."

Fen Jie didn't say anything more, and the conversation ended there.

As Pei Nian left, she couldn't help but feel regretful for her actions. She realized that she had been too arrogant and had taken her position for granted. Now, she had to pay the price for her mistakes, and the only way forward was to learn from her mistakes and become a better person.

Pei Nian finished packing up her things and left the company. As she looked at the busy street filled with people, she took a deep breath and was about to get on a car to go home when her phone rang. She answered, "Hello?"

An anxious voice came from the other end, "Miss Pei, something has happened. Please come to the hospital quickly. They want to kick your father out."

"What? I understand, don't panic. I'll come right away," Pei Nian's face changed abruptly. She hung up the phone and immediately hailed a car to the hospital.

Ten minutes later, she arrived at the hospital and ran all the way to her father's ward. When her sister-in-law saw her, she finally breathed a sigh of relief, "Miss Pei, you finally came."

Pei Nian walked over and patted her shoulder to comfort her. Then she turned to the nurses and asked, "Why do you want to kick my father out?"

One of the nurses stepped forward and answered in a formulaic tone, "Miss Pei, we received a notice and had to do this. Please forgive us."

Pei Nian quickly thought about it and then negotiated with them, "Okay, I understand. But can you wait a few minutes? Let me go to the dean's office and ask why first?"

"Well..." the nurses hesitated.

Pei Nian saw their concerns and reassured them, "Don't worry, I just want to clarify the reason. I'll be back soon and won't involve you."

After a moment of discussion, they nodded and said, "Okay, go ahead."

Pei Nian nodded back and then turned to her sister-in-law, "Stay here and wait for me. I'll be back soon."

Her sister-in-law nodded.

Pei Nian went to the dean's office and knocked on the door. A middle-aged man's voice came from inside, "Come in."

She pushed the door and walked in, calling out to the middle-aged man behind the desk, "Uncle Jiang?"

When Dean Jiang looked up and saw her, he put down the pen in his hand, "Nian Nian, you're here."

Pei Nian held back her emotions and walked over, asking him, "Uncle Jiang, didn't you promise to give me three more days? Why did you change your mind?"

Dean Jiang looked at her with a solemn expression and asked, "Nian Nian, tell me honestly, have you offended someone recently?"
