Chapter 10: Why Aren't You Following My Advice

As night fell, the five-star hotel entrance was bustling with activity. One luxury car after another pulled up, and successful people from all walks of life stepped out with their companions.

Pei Nian vaguely remembered that Professor Li's assistant had mentioned he would attend a banquet tonight, and this should be the place. Pei Nian got out of the car and followed these people inside.

However, when she reached the entrance of the banquet hall, she was stopped by the security guards who demanded her invitation. Pei Nian tried to persuade them, "I'm just here to find someone and will leave soon."

The security guards were firm, "Sorry, without an invitation, we cannot let you in."

Pei Nian looked at the banquet hall just within reach and frowned. If she hadn't called Professor Li and received no response, she wouldn't have come here to find him. What should she do now? Wait for the banquet to end and hope that Professor Li would come out?

But her father didn't have much time left to wait! Just as she was considering forcing her way in, a surprised female voice came from not far away, "Pei Nian?"

Pei Nian looked up and saw several women in gorgeous dresses walking gracefully towards her from the banquet hall. The leader, wearing a silver dress, walked up to her and smiled in surprise, "I didn't expect it to be you?"

Pei Nian recognized her as an old college classmate, Fang Wen, with whom she had a long-standing grudge. Pei Nian forced a smile and greeted her, "Fang Wen, long time no see."

Fang Wen looked her up and down, "I haven't heard from you since your family's incident. I didn't expect to see you here. Are you also here for the banquet?"

Pei Nian was about to answer when the security guard next to her spoke up, "Miss, this young lady is here to find someone, but she doesn't have an invitation."

"Is that so?" Fang Wen looked at Pei Nian, a deeper smile on her face. "So you came to find someone?"

Pei Nian nodded candidly. "Yes, I came to find an elder. Fang Wen, could you please let me in for a bit?"

From the response of the bodyguard, she realized that Fang Wen's family seemed to be the host of tonight's banquet. She couldn't care less and pleaded with her.

Upon hearing this, Fang Wen pretended to be surprised and raised her eyebrows. "Did I hear that right? You're actually asking me for help? Is this still the you that I know?"

Pei Nian looked at her squarely. "You didn't hear wrong."

Fang Wen narrowed her eyes at her. "But why should I help you?"

Pei Nian met her gaze. "If you're not willing, then forget it."

Fang Wen spoke up. "I can let you in, but I have a request."

Pei Nian asked, "What request?"

At this point, Fang Wen raised her glass and slowly poured the contents onto the ground in front of her, with a mischievous look in her eyes. "Clean it up. If you do, I'll let you in to find your person tonight. How about it?"

Pei Nian knew that Fang Wen was deliberately making things difficult for her, but she just glanced at the spilled drink and asked, "Will you keep your word?"

"Of course."

Pei Nian immediately took out some tissues and was about to crouch down to clean up.

"Hold on..." Fang Wen stopped her. "Not with tissues. You're going to use your own clothes to clean it up for me."

Pei Nian looked up at her and pursed her lips.

Fang Wen raised her eyebrows. "What's the matter? Don't want to? If you don't want to, then forget it. I won't force you..."

Pei Nian spoke up. "I'll do it."

Fang Wen sneered at her above her head. "Haha, I never thought that the famous Miss Pei would have such a day!"

Pei Nian ignored her, thinking that this kind of humiliation was nothing compared to her father's life. She was about to clean up the spilled wine with her sleeve.

But just as her sleeve was about to touch the red wine on the ground...

A deep voice sounded, breaking the silence. "Do whatever she asks of you, Pei Nian. When have you ever listened to me like this before?"

Startled by the voice, Pei Nian turned around and saw Fu Yanchen walking towards her with his assistant, Xiao Li, following closely behind.

She was taken aback.

Fu Yanchen approached her, and as soon as he did, Fang Wen tried to explain herself with a forced smile. "Mr. Fu..."

Fu Yanchen interrupted her coldly, "I never thought that Chongcheng's renowned belle would stoop to doing something as uncultured as this."

Fang Wen's face froze.

Fu Yanchen turned to Pei Nian, who was still crouching on the ground, and scolded her, "Do you need someone to help you up?"

Pei Nian stood up immediately.

"Let's go." Fu Yanchen frowned and tossed out the command, turning around and walking out.

Pei Nian watched him leave, her brow furrowing, but eventually she followed him out.

Outside the hotel.

Pei Nian caught up to Fu Yanchen just as he was getting into his car. With pursed lips, he gave her a look that warned her not to follow him.

She caught her breath and walked over to the car, staring at him and saying, "I still need to go inside to find someone."

"Miss Pei, Professor Li has already gone to the hospital." Xiao Li in the front seat kindly reminded her.

"What?" Pei Nian was surprised, looking at Fu Yanchen in the car.

Fu Yanchen didn't look at her, furrowing his brow and ordering Xiao Li, "Drive."

Xiao Li started the car, and Pei Nian, realizing she had no other choice, quickly got in.

On the way to the hospital.

Pei Nian looked at the man next to her, filled with doubts.

How did he know she was going to find Professor Li for her father's surgery?

And how did he manage to get Professor Li to the hospital?

All kinds of questions swirled in her mind, but it wasn't the time to ask them.

So she held her tongue.
