chapter six

Taliana's POV

About six weeks into the term, my relationship with the fun girls in my class grew stronger than before. Ella was closer to Halima, one of the girls with a shot neck, soft hair framing her round face. I was satisfied to know Ella was cool with my new choice of friends.

"there'll be a party at uinn's lounge today close to where you stay Talia, are you interested? it is a birthday party through and you'll get to meet a lot of people", chima said to me whose expression went to a whole new level.

party?!

that was red alert. I never did parties. damn I never attended parties my parents never approve of unless....

"do I know him or her?" I asked, hoping it'll be positive.

"no but-" she raised her index to me to hold in my words. "you should know him. he leaves in the same estate as you, only that he attains a different secondary school. his father is Mike Izaegbegbe, you should know him now "

That show off family. they lived few houses down our street and you would spot them when you see one. it's a little too much that they ride in couvoys even when they are going to a place guarded by security. Their family owned one of the biggest hotel in the states, their service is Too notch. I think I saw their only child once. He should be about my age mate perhaps but he sure looked as pompous as his mother most especially. Nevertheless mum always said never judge a book by it cover so I leave it to the unknown.

"I know them but I'm not sure I wanna go". I said honestly

" c'mon, it's just a birthday party. Good thing it's starting by 4pm and close soon enough for us to go home" she beckoned still despite my refusal to go.

Finally I agreed to try my luck at home, "fine, I'll try my best to convince my parents"

she bounce her legs and threw her hands around me. soon all five of them knew I was going for the party and jump all over me

"Ella you're going?" I asked her on our way home.

"Halima asked but I said no. Told you before I don't do well with crowds so I don't wanna be the little sad girl in the Corner. don't bother making me change my mind", say that, I knew she meant it

"fine, okay, alright. just pray for me that my parents let me go"

" I did that already", she smiled, parting to her awaiting vehicle

.....

As usual, it was hard convincing mummy to let me go to a party that she didn't like the family. Dad wasn't home yet, he would have helped me when he was in a good mood though because even my dad can be so defiant.

"mummy but it's a neighbor's birthday party. it's not like you don't know them". I pleaded but mum shook her head, rummaging through files in her cupboard.

laying them on the table with a loud thud, she dabbed her forehead with her sleeve. she came home to get very important patients file and then run back to work.

" I don't approve of it so please don't bother me with that again" she said, her voice not raising a note but as sure as reality. My anger increased over the minutes.

"I am 15 yrs mum. why can't you trust me, I am growing older every day and the urge to socialize is growing stronger with time. Everything you taught me, I respect and will always follow them. I promise you, I did and still do, just trust me this once mummy"

"I trust you okay, I just don't want you getting influenced" she replied, facing me with a worried expression.

"it is the same thing as not trusting me mummy" I came closer to her, taking her hand in mine. her worried expression faded into a calm smile "you don't always have to be too worried about everything. have I ever made you ashamed of me before?" I asked, she placed her hand on my check, stroking it with her thumb

" I was scared of this moment but okay, you are free to go"

I screamed and hugged he upto the point of throwing her off balance " the curfew is sharp 6 o'clock "

I frowned the time too short for a party to be enjoyed "but that should be when the party has fully gone into swing" I suggested on a beckoning voice

"6.30, not changing it again. I'm off, take care of your younger ones and make sure both of them do their homeworks. okeydoke?"

"right mummy. bye"

"bye sweetie" she answered over her Normal tone while walking fast out of the door.

my mum was an okay person, she was neither too slim nor too plump. To me, she had a body to die for her age. her age mate were either fat or too thin because they are fashion wise but we're ladies or women like mum too

I left the room to my sister's room to get her to do her homework but on getting there, I found her cuddling with baby pink teddy bear while her book was in front of her. I was shocked at first. Rachel was never caught reading on her own, it was so unusual.

she raised her head towards me but had to put it back on her book. " did dad promise you a new unicorn?" I jokingly asked but she rolled her eyes to the back of her head.

"I don't need your help to do any of my homework this time, I'll do all my homework alone including math Even though I suck at it" I noticed the sad look on her face, her chin dropping on the teddy.

Aww she's sad because she wasn't good at a subjects. that is a change. I moved to her bed and sat on it, my back against the headboards. I placed my hand on her hair, fidgeted with it a little then drawing down to her back.

"I always feel dumb when the nerds in class answer a math problem in such swift period of seconds while I'm not even started on the first step, it's painful" she said, her voice cracked. I quietly listened to her, my eyes on her lashes which stocked out so long away from her eyes. it made it easier to see it batter beautiful as she lay.

"it's only painful when you think too much about it. you're not dumb, it's not like you bring back home dumb results. maybe math's is your problem but c'mon at least you're an about average student there, what more do you want?"

" I wish I'm an average student there" she blinked hard in annoyance.

"okay maybe you are an average student but must you always be first in everything?" I said. she sat up immediately using her teddy as support.

"are you kidding me right now? look at your results. you are a straight A student" she said with the tone.

"I-i'm not always a straight A student, not always, note that"

", liar, it was only once you had B in chemistry. you're just trying to make me feel better" she said angrily folding her arms and plopping down on the bed.

" oh you're tryna be like me"

"you wish " she cast me a disgusted look. "what I mean is everyone of you is so smart while I sit here being the dumbest one "

"I still say you're not dumb, the problem with you is that you're always trying to be first without actually calming down to know how this thing is actually been done"

" then show me, I'll love you forever " she begged.i laughed at the statement.

"under one condition" that made her frown

"okay, anything " I smirked at that, this will be so interesting.

"you'll obey everything I ask of you to do and wouldn't complain"

"everything?" she freaked out.

"yes, everything".
