No Medicine For Regret

Regret. I regret meeting you. I regret knowing you. I regret trusting you. And most of all, I regret loving you. Deep in the swamps that lie east of the world resides a legendary witch, who from her hovel watches over the entire world. There she crafts potions of unmatched potency and nature, ones that can heal all illness, make a weak man strong, and return the dead to the realm of living. As long as one can tell a story that the witch has never heard, anything can be bought. There I will seek treatment. A medicine for my regret. A bandage for my soul. From now on, let us be strangers. You who were my world will now reside outside of it. You who were my love, will never again enter my eye. Let our fate be severed. But, I can’t help but wonder, in this world, is there really such thing as medicine for regret?

Revealing their Fangs

In the distance, the woman and the man kept making gestures at each other, and in the end after the man raised his voice and made a gesture of a fist, the woman started walking towards Ava, with the man and the girl following behind. Seeing this, Ava couldn't help but frown. It seemed like her new 'family' was quite stupid, not even bothering to hide their intentions before heading over.

But nonetheless, Ava eased her face, keeping a neutral expression and training her eyes on the trio as they walked over.

In the end, with a gentle expression on her face, the woman walked in front of Ava and kneeled down. Speaking in a soft tone she asked, "Little girl, I've seen you around in the convoy these last few days, but you always seem to be alone, where are your parents?"

Resisting the urge to kick the woman for coming this close, Ava simply shifted her body back before replying with vigilance in her voice, "I don't know."

Behind the woman, the man's face obviously lit up, and seeing this Ava couldn't help but sneer in her heart. Did they really think she was blind? But in the end, she simply kept a vigilant expression and kept slowly nudging backwards.

Hearing this, the woman's face softened yet another shade, "I'm so sorry to hear that, I have a girl about your age, Elly come over here." Half pulling and half guiding, the woman pulled over the young girl behind her, "Elly, say hi, this is…?"

Seeing this, Ava controlled her expression and lowered her vigilance, looking at the young girl in front of her, she said, "I'm Gale."

Looking at Ava, Elly stared with wide open eyes before tentatively saying, "Hi Gale…" and hiding back behind her mother's back.

Seeing this, the woman couldn't help but let out a gentle expression as she watched her child hug her from behind before turning back to look at Ava, "Gale, seeing that you're all alone, why don't you come back with us and have a meal? If you'd like, you can treat us as your family, Elly has always wanted a sister her age, but unfortunately…" The woman rubbed her stomach with a slightly sad expression.

Then, realizing she was talking to a child, the woman said, "Well, we weren't blessed by Goddess Lithius."

From behind, the man let out a smile while waving, while Elly once again peeked out behind her mother's back.

Ava, sitting on the stump, leaned back for a moment, turning her gaze between the three of them, before getting up and nodding.

Seeing this, the man let out a brilliant smile, while the woman let out a soft smile while letting out a sigh.

Walking over, the man grabbed Ava by the wrist, "Come on Gale, let's go to our tent." Before dragging her along.

Behind, Ava's face twisted for a moment and her free hand twitched, wanting to reach for her waist, but in the end she simply allowed herself to be tugged along, masking her expression after a brief second.

After the man had dragged Ava a few meters away, even forgetting to bring his wife and child with him, the woman looked over with a complicated gaze before letting out a sigh, "Don't blame me child." Before turning and patting Elly's head with a dotting expression, "Come on Elly, let's catch up before your father gets mad."

Letting out a small nod, Elly continued to hug onto her mother's waist as they made their way back to their tent.

After arriving back in the tent, the man lead Ava inside, before finding a seat near the entrance and waiting for his wife and kid. Bowing her head and stepping in, the woman let out an apologetic smile, while the man let out some random complaints, "What took you so long Ruth? Don't tell me you can get lost in a fuckin' caravan too?"

Letting out a slight frown, the woman whispered, "Don't swear in front of the kids Bobby."

Grunting, Bobby turned his head away mumbling, "Yeah, yeah, whatever."

In the end, Bobby turned his face back towards Ava, an unconcealed greed revealed on his face, rubbing his palms together he said, "Hey Gale, now that you're part of our family, it'll be safer if you kept your belongings with us, it wouldn't be good if some unscrupulous fellow came and robbed you, you wouldn't even be able to defend yourself harhar."

Frowning, Ava scooted back to the edge of the tent, but in the end had nowhere to go. In the end, what had to come would eventually come, but she didn't think they would be so impatient to act on her the moment they got her back to their tent. It was still broad daylight, if she was a normal kid and shouted, wasn't he afraid of causing a commotion? What an idiot.

A trace of disgust flashing through her eyes, Ava continued putting on a show. Anyways, this was what she had wanted, so she wasn't going to blow this out of proportion, for now it was best to continue playing with them.

Placing both of her hands on her pouch and backing up as far as she could go, she spoke with a slightly quivering tone, wariness on her face, "Wha-, what do you think you're doing? These are my things."

Stretching a hand out towards her, Bobby let out a greasy smile, "I'm your dad now, so your things are my things. Hand em over."

On the other end of the tent, Ruth turned her eyes away, trying her best to avoid the scene. From behind Ruth's waist, Elly looked over with a curious expression.

Seeing Bobby get closer and closer, Ava let out a panicked expression and tried to sprint around Bobby's side to the left, avoiding him and making it out of the tent. Of course, unwilling to see his prey escape, Bobby reached out and grabbed Ava with his outstretched arm before slamming her onto the ground.

Ava on the other hand, seeing Bobby's slow movements, couldn't help but complain mentally, but in the end slowed down a step and allowed herself to be grabbed, resisting the urge to directly spin around and kick Bobby in the balls before stabbing him, and fell onto the ground, letting out a couple of coughs. In the end, no matter how weak Bobby might be, he was still a few sizes larger then her, and full grown man, and it was easy enough for him to throw her on the ground.

Ava had actually been hurt from that, although it was nothing she couldn't handle. Mentally, she made a note to give Bobby a few more stabs later on.

Seeing Ava was incapacitated, Bobby couldn't help but let out a look of ridicule. What a stupid girl. Then, reaching out with his hand, he ripped off the pouch on Ava's side. Playing along with the act, Ava reached out with her hand, trying to take the pouch fast, but in conjunction with her earlier fall was unable to resist, and let the pouch be snatched away.

Opening the pouch, Bobby looked in and couldn't help but let out a smile, "Haha, that's quite some silver you got there Gale, nuff to let daddy be very happy, haha." Standing up, Bobby held the pouch in his hand and stepped out the tent, "Ruth, keep an eye on the kid, I'm gunna head over to Denny's place."

Frowning, the woman started to speak up, but in the end didn't say anything, simply stepping into the tent and glancing at Ava before bringing Elly over to the corner where the bedspreads were and sitting down.

On the other end of the tent, Ava lay on the ground gasping for breath, 'straining' herself to push herself a little further back into the corner when Ruth and Elly came in.

From the other side of the tent, Ruth spoke up, "I'm sorry."
