Chapter 7: Bullies

"He is just making a kind gesture." Another one added.

"Because he hasn’t realized he is picking the book of a black girl once he knows magic will happen." One of them added.

Amber managed to pick up her book, and there was one remaining book on the floor. She attempted to pick it up when she and Mason held the book at the same time. They both stood up, and his gaze landed on her. His eyes flickered and he let go of the book immediately. And all the books he had been holding in his hand for her all this time fell to the floor.

"Oops, sorry." He said, looking at the book on the floor, and walked away.

"Hahaha." All the students started laughing as Amber shyly squatted and started picking up the books on the floor. The teacher was not happy with their treatment of Amber. Although she was white, she didn’t like the way they were treating Amber.

Amber picked up the book and stood at the back of the class looking for a seat when the teacher spotted an empty seat next to Mason.

All the girls were shy about sitting close to Mason because he was so handsome and dreamy.

"Come and sit here." The teacher instructed, pointing at the seat next to Mason. Amber held her bag and sat next to him.

Mason adjusted in his seat, immediately sniffing the air.

"Someone smells like roasted beef." He remarked, and all the girls burst into laughter.

"Enough!! The teacher snapped, looking at all the students, and they quickly composed themselves.

"You are all science students, not bullies. I don’t like the way you guys are treating this black girl, all because of the colour of her skin." The teacher said.

A student raised his hand, and the teacher allowed him to speak.

"With all due respect, ma'am, why does the principal have to allow black people to attend this school?" One of them said.

"Because we don’t want to be among the schools that are tagged as racists." The teacher replied.

"So let’s start with the introduction." The teacher said, and all the students started coming outside to introduce themselves.

Mason walked out of class with a frown on his face, his hand in his pocket, and his head held high.

"My name is Mason Kings. I am a scientist interested in making medicines in the future. I like listening to music and I hate talking to black people," he said, looking at Amber. All the class started applauding. He walked back to his seat, and the teacher narrowed her eyes at him.

It was Amber’s turn. She walked to the front of the class and forced a smile.

"My name is Amber. I am a science student. I like making cool perfumes and learning new things. I am a fast learner." She beamed.

"Boo!!" all the students started shouting

Amber felt bad she put her face down and walked to her seat. The rest of the class was silent. The teacher finished teaching and all the students started walking out of the class.
