Chapter 45

At 1pm, there was a knock on the door. Nina opened it, slightly irked, and was greeted by the sight of Maria. Her mood immediately improved. 

"Come in, come in. It's lovely to see you."

"I got out of work early and thought I would stop in on my way home. Sorry for not letting you know, but I hoped it would be a nice surprise."

"Oh, it is."

"Where's Conor? Don't tell me he's asleep. I want a cuddle."

"He was just stirring after a nap. We're in the kitchen, come through and I'll put the kettle on."

Maria scooped up a sleepy Conor and seemed determined to hang onto him. She couldn't get enough talk of all things baby. When he needed feeding, his sleep routines, baths and even nappies. Nina gave her a look and Maria shook her head. She wasn't pregnant yet, but hoped to be soon.

The chat eventually turned to the problems with the house. Nina confirmed that things were still happening.
