New companion

Ben was walking up and down thinking of his next actions. He saved up 295 souls; he wasn't sure if he should craft something with it or devour them. If he eats them he would become stronger for sure, but maybe he could craft something? Something to strengthen his defense, speed, or maybe his magic. Ben typed into his craft skill abyssal cat before, but this would take around 50 souls from him and he didn't even define any abilities or how it should look like.

Ben just tried, so he typed: Abyssal cat, strong, shapeshift, and able to talk.

Ben was now able to talk so it got boring sometimes.

*sigh* Ben massaged his temples when he saw the price.

It would take 215 of his hard-earned souls. Reluctantly, Ben clicked on the [CRAFT] button; having something on guard duty while you sleep would be priceless.

A small red-orange ball of light appeared before Ben; he carefully caught it with both hands. Sleeping in his palms was now a tiny black kitten.

"This is all? Give me my souls back!" Ben said in an angry tone.

He opened the system and looked for a refund button but couldn't find anything.

Ben pulled his sword from his storage and pointed it in the direction of a group of burning trees.

"Come out!" Ben placed the kitten on top of a rock next to him.

When the observer finally came out, Ben was surprised to see an eyeball the size of a beach ball walking slowly towards him on two legs.

Ben was disgusted, he picked up a small fist-sized stone, threw it at the eyeball. When the stone bumped off, gigantic eyelids closed shut, and the eye monster charged in Ben's direction. Ben was dumbfounded, it was so fast that he couldn't even dodge and got thrown back a few meters by the impact. It was also strong.

"So you want it the hard way!" Ben said when he got up again, grabbing his sword tightly. He pointed his finger at the eye monster and shot a lightning strike at it. It twisted in pain, not giving off any shrieks or screams, just a sizzling sound. When it hunched down, Ben knew what it was about to do, it was about to jump with that Ben had only to wait at the point it would come down again.

Ben was dumbfounded again when he saw how high it jumped, so he took the opportunity and flew after it. When Ben reached it and was about to slash it in two, it kicked him away. Ben turned in the air and charged again; when he saw the eyeball monster starting to fall, he cut it into two. Ben could move in the air just fine, but the eyeball was just a walking eyeball.

The two halves fell to the ground with a splashing sound not far from the place where Ben placed the kitten. Ben grabbed the soul when he landed and walked over to the kitten. When Ben was about to throw the soul in his mouth, he saw the kitten sitting there, staring at it with big red-glowing eyes.

"Food!" It exclaimed.

"HAHAHA! Obviously, you are hungry!" Ben laughed handing over the soul.

The small kitten started to rip out small parts of the soul that were as big as her head.

In the end, this little glutton ate 40 souls that Ben got from Fynn's summoning. So Ben decided to eat the rest.

With that, Ben walked off followed by the cat.

"Hmm what should i call you?" Ben pondered scratching his head.

"Let's leave it for later! We need to gather more souls!"

Ben spent a little more than a week just hunting and collecting souls; the loot wasn't that big because he had to share now. The kitten was now the size of a full-grown cat, but for an abyssal cat, this was nothing. Ben was urgently looking for another summoning circle, but the abyss was way too huge they could appear anywhere. It would be easier if he was a high-rank demon then he could use the infinite staircase or the hall of doors.

These two are connected to nearly any world you could imagine. Ben could go anywhere and then summon his own army to harvest souls. But for that, he would need a lot of souls to become a high-rank demon first, and he also would need to pay a price when he wants to go to one of these places. Ben used the 22 souls he collected to craft a new sword; his old one was dull from the though skin of so many demons.

The sword he crafted was a longsword with a pitch-black blade and a black hilt with red outlines. The next step would be new clothes, maybe something that speeds up his self-healing ability. And he has to power up his cat until now she isn't a big help in battle. With that thought in mind, he spend another two weeks looking for a summoning circle and harvesting souls. Ben felt annoyed, giving the cat half of his spoils and only slowly growing doesn't help him; it would be better to get big amounts of souls at once, like that time he derailed a train. That would be the best, but for now, he will hunt down demons.

Ben completely forgot to give the cat a name. But he couldn't come up with one; maybe he will ask a human in the next world.

Still thinking of a name for the cat.
