Between the darkness and the dawn

Back in the apartment, both Alina and Thiago were busy. Thiago, was sitting at the terminal, and Alina was staring at the wall intently, but her eyes were glowing jungle green, indicating she was having something projected onto her optics.

Ivo and Davi walked past them and into the bedroom. Davi locked the door behind him, something he rarely did, and knelt in front of the shelf under the bedside table. He pulled out a tattered book with a dirty white cover and sat down on the bed.

"Come here," Davi said, patting the space next to him.

Ivo sat down and peered sideways at the book in Davi's lap. Davi thumbed at the white cover, making Ivo realise it was a jacket. "I haven't really showed this to anyone," he said, his raspy voice growing smoother and contemplative.

"You don't have to," Ivo rushed to say, "Don't do anything just for my sake."
