The Best of Two Worlds

I wake up, surrounded by the sunlight that invades the cave and the sound of water falling with force. I stretch my legs slowly, feeling each muscle stretch as I stand up. I look outside the cave and see that it's a new day, a new beginning, full of possibilities and challenges. Before doing anything, I need to check my status, to know if I'm prepared for what the day has in store for me. Quickly, I invoke the system, asking for details about my statistics and abilities.

I look at my statistics and think about how I should distribute these points to become stronger and able to face any challenge that may come my way. I decide to distribute 2 points to strength, 2 to dexterity and 1 to intelligence, to balance my physical and mental abilities.

I knew I needed to adapt to my new form and learn to use my abilities to survive. So, after distributing the skill points, I examined my abilities and asked the system: "How do I use the abilities that are not physical?". Seconds later, I heard a voice in my mind: "These abilities require a source of intangible energy called mana." This was the first time I heard that word.

"System, could you explain to me what this thing called mana is?", I asked.

"Sure, mana is a form of energy that surrounds this planet and all living beings are able to feel it, in different degrees. For the host to start feeling mana, the system can create a guide to help you familiarize with this new skill," replied the voice.

I follow the system's instructions and find a quiet place in the cave, away from the noise of the waterfall. I sit with my legs crossed and close my eyes, focusing on my breath.

"We can start, system," I say out loud.

Seconds later, I hear the robotic voice of the system in my mind: "Starting transfer of a mana manipulation guide." The blue screen in front of me shows a progress bar, indicating the transfer's progress.

TRANSFER 97%... 98%... 100%

The transfer finishes and I feel a wave of knowledge flooding my mind. I close my eyes and begin studying the guide, learning about how to feel and control mana. With every passing minute, I feel my understanding and skill growing, as if something warm was constantly moving in my body. After a few minutes, I hear a notification sounding in my mind.

NEW SKILL ACQUIRED

I open my eyes and see small white bubbles floating in the air. My vision becomes blurry and the bubbles disappear. I suspect that I ran out of energy. Ignoring this, I open the description of the new skill and begin studying it in more detail.

Mana Manipulation: allows you to feel and control the intangible energy called mana. With this skill, you can absorb mana from your surroundings, store it in your body and use it to enhance your other abilities. Additionally, you can create magical barriers, heal wounds and even cast basic spells. However, this skill requires a lot of practice and control to be used correctly, as excessive use of mana can cause exhaustion and damage to your body.

Incredible, I could never have imagined this in my previous world. I was about to resume my training when suddenly, several red notification screens appeared before me.

DANGER!

DANGER!

DANGER!

I was surprised and confused. "What's happening?" I asked, with a tone of concern in my voice.

"Host, we have detected a threat in your perimeter. We recommend immediate evasion," replied the robotic voice of the system.

I needed more information, so I quickly opened the notifications and began reading. It was an alert for an unknown threat that was approaching. I had to prepare immediately. I began to prepare myself to face any threat that was coming my way. I knew I would need all my abilities and knowledge to survive.

I looked at the entrance of the cave, I could see the silhouette of what looked like three wolves. They began to walk towards me, in the dark of the cave. Maybe I had more chances if I ambush them.

As the wolves approached, a message from the system appeared on my screen: "New Mission: Survive. Difficulty: Level 6. Failure: Death." I knew I would have to be prepared for the worst. The wolves approached slowly, the leader was the largest, about 5.5 feet tall and white fur like snow. The other two were smaller, about 4 feet tall and black fur. They followed the leader, with their fangs exposed and ready to attack.

Knowing that wolves are stronger and more experienced than me. I take a deep breath, focusing and directing my energy. I use my stealth ability, trying to hide in the shadows of the cave. The wolves approach slowly, sniffing the air and looking for any sign of my presence. I stay tense, waiting for the right moment to strike.

Suddenly, the leader wolf turns and faces me, with its black eyes shining intensely. It growls, giving the signal for its companions to attack. I quickly breathe fire, trying to hit them and keep them at bay. They seem to be resistant to fire, but still back away a bit. I use this opportunity to run towards the entrance of the cave, trying to gain an advantage with my speed and agility.

I jumped out the exit, rolling on the ground and getting up immediately. I turned to face the wolves, ready to fight to the end. I shot fire again, but the waterfall water put it out. As I looked at the entrance of the cave, I saw the wolves coming out and passing through the water. "System, can you help me here?", I shouted. "The system advises you to flee as fast as possible," was the response.

Damn, maybe I should use my wings to escape. I started running and strongly flapped my black wings. The white wolf came running towards me with incredible speed. I knew I needed to get out of there as soon as possible, as there could be more wolves on the way.

"Host, there is a system function that converts your player levels into skill levels, do you wish to increase the level of flight?" the system's question echoed in my mind, but I didn't have time to think about it, I wasn't fast enough and the wolf caught up to me. Suddenly, the wolf's fangs sink into my leg, causing agonizing pain. I tried to dodge, but it was too late. With a scream of pain, I fell to the ground, but still fought against the wolf with all my strength.

"LET GO OF ME YOU SON OF A BITCH" I shouted.

I looked into the eyes of the white wolf, feeling fear and anger grow within me. I began to accumulate mana in my mouth, focusing on creating the most powerful and terrifying fire I could. I imagined a fire forged by modern era technology, a blue inferno that burns everything in its path, a bright flame that illuminates the darkness, a destructive force that no enemy can withstand.

SYSTEM DETECTED MANA EXHAUSTION

I could feel the heat rising and writhing, as if my throat was going to melt. This is power. I screamed with all my might: "TAKE THE POWER OF MODERN ERA, YOU BASTARD!", and unleashed the blue fire towards the white wolf. The fire was intense and bright, with blue flames that seemed to burn hotter than normal fire, an infernal fire.
