Shisui's face was a mask of confusion at Reiki's declaration. How could he, who fought harder than any of them, choose not to fight now? Last night's battle had been won largely because of Reiki's efforts.
"Is it because of the new model Tsunade-sensei applied for?" Shisui wondered aloud.
Nozuki chimed in, "Reiki probably wants to test the role of medical ninjas in the team."
"Yes, that's it," Reiki admitted, a hint of surprise crossing his face at Nozuki's perceptiveness. He had been searching for a way to justify his decision, but she had already hit the nail on the head.
"Alright, even if it's just Nozuki and me, along with the caravan's guards and transporters, we can handle another fight like last night," Shisui said confidently. "And you, the super medical ninja, can support us from the back."
As laughter echoed through the group, the caravan members wrapped up their rest. After a quick lunch, they resumed their journey, moving toward a vast forest that would lead them to Pincun, a small village in the Land of Fire. This village would serve as their rest stop and supply replenishment point.
Suddenly, a gentle breeze swept through the area, shifting the atmosphere dramatically.
"This is…" Shisui started, peering into the distance as a fog began to envelop the surroundings.
"Chakra fluctuations! This mist isn't natural," Nozuki exclaimed, her eyes narrowing in concentration.
"Mist Hidden Technique!" Reiki interjected, recognizing the signs immediately. "The main attackers must be ninjas from Kirigakure. Be cautious; our perception will be severely compromised in this fog. We need to gather everyone together!"
Reiki unleashed a shadow clone, sending it to alert the caravan workers.
"They've triggered the trap I left," he confirmed, a sense of urgency edging his voice. "We're still a few minutes out from the heart of it."
"Nozuki, you have the best perception. Stick close to me!" Shisui instructed, already moving forward, alert for any signs of danger.
As the caravan members quickly formed a protective circle around the goods, sounds of conflict broke through the mist.
"Bang! Bang! Bang!"
"Boom!"
The commotion intensified, rattling the already tense atmosphere.
"Brother Reiki, why aren't you joining the fight?" Prime Minister Sanada approached him, concern etched on his face.
"I'm a medical ninja, and my perception isn't strong," Reiki replied smoothly. "In this mist, my combat effectiveness will be diminished. It's better for me to stay here and care for everyone."
"Mr. Sanada, you can allow your people to fight. Otherwise, something might go wrong," he added, a playful glint in his eyes. He was certain of one thing: Prime Minister Sanada would never let anything jeopardize this cargo.
"Leave half the group here. The rest should support the Konoha ninjas!" Sanada ordered, pulling a short sword from his waist and charging into the fray. He understood that discretion was no longer an option; his identity was compromised.
Quickly, half of the caravan members vanished into the mist.
"Brother Reiki, do you want to know?" a middle-aged man who had spoken to Reiki the day before sidled up next to him with a knowing smile.
"I'm not curious; I simply don't like being deceived. As for the rest, it's just a mission," Reiki replied, maintaining his calm demeanor.
The man nodded silently, stepping back into his role.
Moments later, Nozuki returned, looking worse for wear. "My arm is poisoned… and it's hurt my bones," she said, wincing as she revealed the purple-black wounds.
"Sit down. Healing!" Reiki commanded, quickly activating his healing technique. He then pulled out a knife and made a small incision on her arm to facilitate better treatment.
"Hang in there!"
Once the bleeding stopped, he released the jutsu and concentrated on extracting the toxins. The wound healed rapidly, much to Nozuki's astonishment.
"That was so fast?!" she gasped, her surprise palpable.
"This is a special potion I developed. It'll restore some of your strength and replace the blood you lost. Use it and get back to full fighting condition," Reiki explained, handing her two vials.
"The potion you developed?" Nozuki raised an eyebrow, skeptical yet intrigued. "You won't accidentally poison me, will you?"
With a chuckle, she downed both vials, and as the medicine took effect, her expression shifted from skepticism to shock. The immediate recovery felt extraordinary, and best of all, there were no adverse side effects.
"I have more of this potion for you to take to Shisui," Reiki said, handing over three more pairs of vials. "Remember, come back for treatment as soon as you're injured. I'll be here to help!"
"Understood," Nozuki replied, taking the potions and vanishing back into the mist.
"**The Violent Potion.** Sure enough, after the Holy Hand's Benevolence was enhanced, the chances of obtaining this potion increased," Reiki thought, evaluating its effects.
[**Violent Potion**: After use, all attributes improve temporarily without any side effects.]
The description was simple yet effective.
"Brother Reiki, my hand is broken! Can you realign it?" one of the caravan members cried.
"No problem, leave it to me!" Reiki reassured him, swiftly moving to assess the damage.
"Brother Reiki, I was shot in the butt by a kunai! It hurts so much!" another added, grimacing.
"It's a small problem; just bear with it!" Reiki encouraged, his voice steady as he prepped for treatment.
As the caravan members began to appear one after another, Reiki and his shadow clone worked tirelessly to provide swift medical care.
"So soon?" one guard exclaimed, astonished at his quick recovery.
"I feel like I can fight again!" another cheered, gratitude lacing his tone. "Is this what it's like to be a medical ninja? We need to recruit more!"
"What's this about selling potions?" a curious onlooker asked.
Reiki took the opportunity to establish a trade. "A bottle of recovery potion costs 8000 yen. A stamina potion is also 8000 yen, while a rage potion is 5000 yen, and an antidote potion is 5000 yen as well."
The middle-aged man's eyes lit up as he considered the potential benefits. The prices were reasonable, and if the potions truly worked as advertised, the market for them could explode.
Before long, the potions began to fly off the shelves, distributed among the guards, who were eager to test their effects.
In this moment, Reiki proved himself not just as a medical ninja but as a keen businessman, showcasing a remarkable sensitivity to the dynamics of trade amidst the chaos.
