Naruto : The System Files

Naruto has always had video games to fall back on growing up while the rest of the village pretty much treated him like garbage. What happens when Naruto wakes up to find his life has become one of the video games he loves so much. -------------------------------------------------------------- Disclaimer: I don't own Naruto. [ Skill: Summoning Jutsu ]

[ Level: 1 ]

[ CP: Variable ]

[ Description: The world possesses its own chakra and, like the human body, has a chakra network and chakra nodes, known as sacred grounds. These areas, where nature energy and chakra concentrate intensely, transform normal animals into sacred beasts. Each sacred ground is guarded by its own beast. With a summoning contract, one can summon these sacred beasts in battle. ]

[ Passive Enhancements: ]

- [ Chakra Synchronization: Increases the affinity between the summoner and summoned creature, reducing the chakra cost of summoning by 20%. ]

[ Active Enhancements: ]

- [ Instant Call: Allows the summoner to instantly summon a contracted beast in critical situations and vice versa ]

Naruto quickly scanned the system window, his eyes processing the information. Before him stretched the Hokage's private training grounds, with Hiruzen standing nearby, his eyes filled with a mix of pride and worry. He always had that look—like he believed in Naruto but wasn't entirely sure what would come next.

"I've learned it," Naruto said, tossing the scroll back to Hiruzen. Still, he could see the disbelief on Hiruzen's face.

Hiruzen motioned for Naruto to show him. Alright, old man, here goes, Naruto thought.

He went through the hand signs—Boar, Dog, Bird, Monkey, Ram. The flow of chakra was instant, like second nature now. Naruto could feel it spreading through him, pulling into his palms, focusing there as he prepared for the jutsu.

"Summoning jutsu!" Naruto yelled, slamming his hand down onto the ground.

...Nothing.

The grass and dirt shifted slightly, a few blades falling to the side, but that was it. Naruto looked down at his hand, frustration building. Really? He couldn't help but feel like an idiot. But before he could dwell on it, he heard clapping.

Hiruzen clapped, and Naruto shot him a glare, thinking he was messing with him.

"Yeah, yeah, amazing," Naruto muttered, brushing the dirt off his palm. Not really amazing if nothing happened.

"You still need to sign a contract before being able to summon anything," Hiruzen explained, a soft chuckle escaping him.

"Right, right," Naruto said, shaking his head. How could I forget that detail? He raised an eyebrow at Hiruzen. "You want me to go to the sacred grounds?"

Hiruzen looked confused for a moment. "What do you mean?"

Naruto quickly explained the system's description of the summoning jutsu, the part that mentioned the sacred lands. Hiruzen's expression shifted—first confusion, then realization, like a man who just figured out the punchline to a joke he didn't know he was a part of.

"You didn't know that, Hokage-sama?" Naruto said, trying to hide the smirk that tugged at the corner of his mouth.

Even the great professor has gaps in his knowledge.

"Well," Hiruzen said, his face a bit sheepish, "the summons don't give you clear answers when you ask them about this. But I guess now I know."

He took another puff, clearly trying to regain his composure. "You really can teach an old dog new tricks."

"So, how do I get the contract?"

"There are two ways to get a summoning contract," Hiruzen said, holding up two fingers. "First is using the reverse summoning jutsu. That'll allow you to enter one of the sacred lands. If you pass their test, you can sign the contract. The second way is to get a current summoner to help you."

"Nepotism," Naruto said flatly, watching as Hiruzen coughed on his smoke.

"You certainly have a way with words, Naruto-kun," Hiruzen said, regaining his composure.

Naruto shrugged. "Just calling it like I see it."

The young Uzumaki was about to try the reverse summoning himself when he felt Hiruzen's hand on his, stopping him.

"You're going through the second way."

"Really?"

"Of course," Hiruzen said, smiling. "You are going to be the next summoner of the Monkey Clan."

The Monkey Clan? Naruto nodded, already imagining what Tenten would say about this. Seems fitting for the orange monkey. He could practically hear her teasing voice now.

Hiruzen began to perform the reverse summoning jutsu, his hands moving in a fluid motion. It was like watching a master at work, each sign perfectly in place. One second, Naruto was in the training ground with Hiruzen; the next, he was... somewhere completely different. There wasn't any sense of movement, no flash of light or smoke—just a blink, and suddenly the world had changed.

The air here felt... different. Heavy, almost like it was pressing down on him, but at the same time, it was refreshing—like he'd just taken a deep breath of the purest air possible. It smelled of earth and greenery, crisp and alive, the kind of air that wakes you up even if you didn't know you were sleeping. Is this what real nature feels like? Naruto wondered.

"Welcome to Mount Huaguo," Hiruzen said, and Naruto's eyes went wide as he took in the sight before him.

Mount Huaguo was massive, almost impossibly so, with thick green forests that stretched as far as Naruto could see. Mist clung to the mountain slopes, swirling gently around the trees like a living thing. The peaks seemed to touch the sky itself, and the whole place felt ancient, like it had existed long before humans ever did. There were vibrant flowers in every color imaginable, and the sound of water rushing down from hidden streams filled the air, mingling with the distant calls of creatures Naruto couldn't even name.

But what really caught Naruto's attention was the set of stairs leading up the mountain. They were carved directly into the rock, each step smooth and worn from ages of use. The stairs seemed to go on forever, leading all the way to a grand palace perched at the very top of the mountain. The palace itself looked like something out of a storybook—massive and majestic, its rooftops painted in reds and golds, with banners fluttering in the wind.

"So, this is the brat you were talking about?" a gruff voice cut through Naruto's thoughts, and he turned to see someone land in front of them.

The newcomer was taller than Hiruzen, and his whole body was covered in white fur that peeked out from his sleeves and pants. His long, unkempt white hair reached down to his back, and he had sideburns that stretched into a wild goatee. He wore a black suit with mesh armor underneath, topped with a sleeveless kimono-shirt adorned with white fur trimmings and tiger-like stripes. And he was wearing a Konoha forehead protector. A ninja monkey? Naruto thought, his eyes wide with surprise.

[ Name: King Enma ]

[ Level: 20 ]

[ Description: The strongest summon on Mount Huaguo, Enma reigns as the leader of the monkey clan. A fiercely loyal companion of Hiruzen Sarutobi who battled in two Shinobi world wars to the point that he was considered a member of Konoha's forces. Serious, calm, and straightforward are traits he learned from the humans, traits despised by the monkey clan yet none dared to speak against as Enma's strength reigned supreme in these mountains. ]

"Those are some dangerous eyes you have there," the monkey said, getting right in Naruto's face, his eyes narrowing as if he could see right through him.

Naruto blinked, taken aback. Did he just... sense the Observer feat? How could he even do that? Naruto hadn't met anyone who could tell when he was using it before.

"Enma, stop scaring the boy," another voice called out, and suddenly the boss summon was smacked on the head. Hiruzen bowed low, and Naruto quickly followed suit, even though his brain was still catching up to what was happening.

"Thank you for meeting with us, Great Elder Xuputi," Hiruzen said, his voice full of respect Naruto had rarely ever seen him use.

Naruto dared to peek up while still bowing, and that's when he saw him—the elder monkey. He floated just above the ground, draped in a flowing orange cloak that seemed to shimmer like autumn leaves. His face was wise and weathered, with a long white beard that made him look like he'd seen a thousand lifetimes. He held a wooden staff in one hand, and a small bell dangled from his tail, tinkling softly. But the most striking thing was the intricate markings on his face—they looked like they were carved into his very skin.

What was strange, though, wasn't his appearance or the way he seemed to float effortlessly in the air—it was that Naruto's Observer Feat didn't activate. Naruto was looking right at him, but it was like he couldn't read him. Couldn't sense him.

"Oh, Enma was right," the elder monkey said, his voice calm but firm. "You do have dangerous eyes."

The air between them felt... off. It wobbled, almost like there was an invisible curtain between Naruto and Elder Xuputi. Naruto realized then, the elder monkey was using senjutsu to block his Observer Feat.

He knew how to stop it.

Naruto's heart skipped a beat. There are counters to my system abilities? He had never even considered that before. Sweat dripped down his face as he swallowed hard. If they can do that... these guys can make me way stronger.

The old monkey's eyes softened, and he chuckled. "No need to be so tense, boy. Eat this."

Before Naruto could even respond, the elder handed him a piece of candy.

What the hell? Naruto blinked, staring at the candy in the elder's outstretched hand, completely bewildered by the unexpected gesture.

[Item: Monkey Candy]

[Description: A normal rock coated in sugar with an inner layer of ghost pepper. Typically used for pranks due to its intense heat and unexpected texture.]

"Thank you for this candy," Naruto said, putting on his best smile, "but can I also give you a gift?"

Xuputi raised an eyebrow but nodded. Naruto reached into his pocket and pulled out a piece of candy he'd made himself—a little trick he'd perfected over the years. It looked like a regular piece of candy, but inside was pure cinnamon. The kind that makes your mouth feel like it's on fire. The moment you bite into it, you're guaranteed to be coughing for at least a few minutes.

The elder's eyes lit up, and for a split second, Naruto saw a glimmer of recognition. Oh, he knows exactly what this is, Naruto thought, one prankster to another.

They both stood there, staring at each other, not moving, not blinking.

"Why don't you eat it, young one?" Xuputi said, a mischievous smile playing on his lips.

Naruto kept his grin steady. "It's polite for elders to go first."

"I insist."

"I insist."

They said it at the same time, eyes locked, neither of them budging an inch. Then, as if they were both on the same wavelength, they casually tossed their candies to the side at the exact same moment.

Hiruzen and Enma groaned, like they'd just realized something terrible. Naruto could almost hear them thinking, Oh no, there are two of them.

The elder threw back his head and laughed—a loud, joyful laugh that echoed around them. "Hahaha! No one has ever pranked me before..." He smiled at Naruto, and for the first time, there was pure joy in his eyes.

"Well, I am the greatest prankster in Konoha!" Naruto said, puffing out his chest proudly. Yeah, that's right, old man. You just met your match, he thought.

The elder's eyes twinkled with amusement. "Well then, greatest prankster, you deserve a reward."

Naruto felt a surge of excitement. A reward? Heck yeah! Though, he couldn't help but notice that the system window didn't pop up with any notifications. Weird. But whatever, a reward is a reward!

"What is it?"

"Well," Xuputi said with a grin, "I am going to teach you how to fly."

Naruto nodded slowly, trying to keep his face neutral. Flying? Really? he thought.

"First, you have to be one with the universe," the elder said, his voice dropping to a mystical tone, and suddenly, a gust of wind blew, causing his cloak to flutter dramatically.

Naruto squinted, his eyes narrowing at the sight. Then he saw it—the elder's cloak was hiding a stick he was balancing on. You've got to be kidding me. He's not floating; he's just really good at balancing on a stick!

"Beggars are also one with the universe," Naruto said flatly, his blank stare locked on the elder. He knew he'd just indirectly called the elder a scamming beggar, but he didn't care. The look on the elder's face was worth it.

Hiruzen and Enma went stiff, their eyes wide like they couldn't believe what Naruto had just said. The air seemed to freeze for a second, and Naruto braced himself for a scolding or some kind of punishment.

But instead, the elder just burst into laughter, a deep, hearty laugh that made the whole mountain seem to shake. He reached out and patted Naruto's head, ruffling his hair.

"This one," Xuputi said between chuckles, "is better than the last."

Hiruzen sweatdropped, remembering the last time he brought another human to Mount Huaguo. That was six years ago, with Asuma. The memory was still vivid—his son had been pranked relentlessly by the monkeys, and the elder himself had refused to allow Asuma to become a summoner. It was a bitter moment for Hiruzen, one where he had wanted to fight back, to stand up for his son. But the elder… he was someone even Hiruzen couldn't defy. If the elder had wanted, he could have easily kicked Hiruzen out of the clan entirely, cutting off Konoha's relationship with the Monkey Clan.

'To think,' Hiruzen thought, his gaze shifting to Naruto, 'the elder has warmed up to this boy.'

It was both surprising and relieving.

'You continue to surprise me, as always, Naruto-kun.'

Author's Note:

Obviously, Naruto was going to get the monkey clan from Hiruzen, but thanks to all the awesome readers who suggested other cool summons. Don't worry—we still have the ANBU summon and Uzumaki Clan summon coming, so your ideas might show up there!

Now, here's some cool info you might've missed:

Mount Huaguo: I am pretty sure 99% of you don't know this, but Mount Huaguo is the mountain that Sun Wu Kong rules over. Do you know why he is called the Monkey King? It's because he rules over the monkeys of Mount Huaguo in the Chinese novel "Journey to the West."

...

The Earth has a chakra network: Okay, this might be a bombshell, but in this fanfic, the Earth has a chakra network that creates nature energy. Just like the chakra points on a human body, the chakra nodes of Earth are considered sacred lands for summoning animals. This is my explanation for them and the talking animals since we never got an explanation. Now, what's the cool information you can get from that? There are 361 nodes in the human body, and paralleling that with the Earth, there are 361 summoning animals in the entire world. Cool, right?

...

Elder Xuputi: I hope you liked this character. His name is actually a reference to Sun Wu Kong because, obviously, it's a nod to the legend of the Monkey King. Xuputi is inspired by Subhuti (also known as Patriarch Subodhi), the wise Taoist sage who was the teacher of Sun Wu Kong in "Journey to the West." Subhuti is the one who taught Sun Wu Kong the secrets of Taoist magic, transformation techniques, and the ways to achieve immortality.
