Chapter 39 - Growing a Tailed Beast

"So it's like this. If so, then what happens if I do this? Oh, that's what happens, haha."

Outside the Kagami's Laboratory, Mira just blankly stared at the door listening to Kagami talking to himself. Taking a moment to count down, she opened the door to see him at a table playing with what seems to be a small string of orange chakra. Which he was turning into different balloon animals.

'He found something strange again.' is Mira's first thoughts upon seeing this.

Then her eyes turned to the half built tanks on the side with a curious gaze. It appeared that he was fiddling with some sort of glass judging by the shards around the tank and broken chunks sweeped up into a pile. Then her eyelid twitched when she looked back at Kagami's hands, for the chakra strand took the shape of a more mature her.

"Are you having fun Kagami?" Mira asked with hints lacing her voice.

"Mmm, I pretty much learned what I needed." Kagami nodded.

"Then what are you doing?" Mira asked as she looked at the chakra strand which reverted to a strand.

"Your birthday present really." Kagami grinned.

"My birthday isn't for another six months." She said,

"Well, even so, it might not be done." Kagami laughed, rubbing the back of his head.

Mira sighed at the words, since if it wasn't done by then, he would pull something else out to give her. Since meeting each other at four, he has yet to miss giving her an amazing birthday gift even if he missed her birthday by a day or two because he lost track of the days. So, she didn't dwell on his words, but changed the topic.

"Our rest period is over and the Hokage is requesting us to do a few missions. This is in exchange for not putting us back on the border right away." Mira said.

"Is it too early for me to retire?" Kagami asked.

"Unless you want to be banned from researching chakra, then no it is not too early." Mira said.

Stuffing away the stuff and locking up the laboratory, Kagami headed out with Mira to complete the mission.

Time passed by fairly quickly for Kagami who seemed to think the days were too short. For weeks passed by as his research in tailed beast chakra advanced alongside building the tanks for his idea. Well as much as it could as Hiruzen seemed determined to send them out on mission to keep them busy all the time.

So his project he could have started a few weeks ago, can just begin. Hence, in the early morning, Kagami watched as a pair of tanks slowly filled with a solution of various ingredients. Each tank had a slight green hue to it as it slowly filled up before him.

It was a few hours later, before the tanks finally filled up all the way and allowed him to begin the next step. So with slow and steady hands, Kagami pulled out two thick chunks of reddish orange chakra from a storage scroll. The chakra that belongs to the Nine Tails, he collected the night of the Nine Tails Riot.

Then he dropped the collected chakra into the tank where the reddish chakra slowly dissolved leaving behind an orange chakra sphere. Once he was sure it was set and the tanks showed everything in order as it was set to monitor the chakra inside. Kagami let out a breath of relief as it showed everything is working as it supposed too.

'I may not be the best at modifying human biology, but chakra. I dare say only Sage of Six Paths can match me.' Kagami thought while admiring his handiwork.

After standing there for ten minutes, Kagami felt he admired his creation enough. He decided to begin on another project as he waited for this one to show some progress. He totally knew it would take a long time and not expect it to show a tiny bit in a few minutes. Totally, since he needed to think about what he needed for his next project, totally.

"What were the materials I needed again?" Kagami talked to himself as he left the lab.

Soon after he left, inside the tanks, the orange chakra sphere slowly grew bigger with a stand slowly growing bigger behind them.

Time continued to pass by as the tailed beast sphere continued to grow and gain shape over the next few months. During which, Kagami wasn't idle either as he continued working on the serum that continues to elude him and a project that will earn him a fortune. Something that will make many merchants envious and will allow an economic boom to occur.

"What is this thing?" Mira, who stood next to Hiruzen asked.

In order to show off his latest invention and get the village ready. Kagami invited Hiruzen to visit the laboratory to learn about it. For what they were looking at, well it was a chakra vehicle he had built in the shape of a 2019 Camaro ZL1. Granted it probably wasn't the best design to use for display and showcasing why the village should invest in making more chakra vehicles.

"This little baby is what I call a Chakra Vehicle." Kagami introduced. "Unlike current modes of transport belonging to carriages pulled by horses or large animals. This thing is charged by chakra and able to travel at much higher speeds compared to a normal carriage."

"Is that so?" Hiruzen looked interested as he walked around the car.

"While I may have gone with looks, comfort, speed and durability with this chakra vehicle. It is not impossible to create large vehicles that can haul materials, transport goods long distances in a shorter amount of time. We can even refrigerate the back and transport quickly to spoil goods or cold objects even on the hottest of days without it melting."

"Interesting. How much will it cost to make and how well does it run? Does it take a lot of chakra or little?" Hiruzen asked.

"The prices vary with large vehicles or machinery costing that can be used hauling large loads of dirt or digging large holes will probably cost a few million. On the other hand from smaller cars like this to cargo from around twenty to a couple hundred thousand." Kagami gave a rough estimate.

While shinobi can easily move around dirt and earth if they learn earth release. Civilians can't and especially those that are responsible for mining, construction and so on have to rely on shovels and wagons for the most part to shuffle around loads of dirt, rocks and other materials they may need. So these machines, while expensive, will allow them to complete projects faster and thus increase their incomes by being able to take on more projects.

"For the chakra amount, it won't be too much. For I created a Chakra Battery which one will pay to recharge them after a certain amount of usage. Thus, creating a profit." Kagami explained to Hiruzen who nodded with a smile.

"I see. Let's take a ride, so I can see it in action. However, as long as you can deliver, then I believe in the near future, we will be seeing these vehicles all around the village." Hiruzen opened the door and went to sit in the passenger seat.

However, Kagami stopped him as he felt embarrassed. While he could probably drive it, he wasn't a tall eleven year old, so he could barely see over the steering wheel. Hence, after Hiruzen was given instruction, with Mira being a backseat driver, they drove around the village in style.
