First Mission Start

Hokage's Office (The Next Morning) (Kamui's Point of View)

Arriving in front of her father's office, Kamui found Yugao already waiting there. She had decided to arrive about ten minutes early since it was her first day, but it seems like her sensei decided to do so even earlier.

Once in range, Kamui greeted her. "Good morning Sensei."

"Good morning. You have everything packed?" Yugao asked. She noticed a lack of a backpack on Kamui's back.

"Yes sensei. The inside of the sash on my waist is a sealing scroll. Thanks to my ability to manipulate space, I can change the exit point, to a certain area in my vicinity, like my hand." Kamui said. Demonstrating the functions of the belt, she willed her sash to release a kunai, which then appeared in her outstretched hand. Then, she returned it.

"That could be useful. Is there any way for others to use a similar method?" Yugao asked with astonishment. Even though that didn't seem like a big deal, it was. In battle, even a second saved could be the decider of life and death. It's the reason most ninja carried their weapons on their person instead of in sealing scrolls; keeping it that way made them easier to draw. With Kamui's method, that would no longer be necessary for most tools.

"I can, though at the moment it would require a sealing tattoo to be inscribed on the wielder's wrist. If another sealer were to do it, it would be kanji. I usually do shapes. It would basically be a preprogrammed exit point. Naruto and Sasuke both have one. Would you like one?" Kamui explained. They had pestered her to set one up for them as soon as they learned of its existence. Sasuke had a sealing belt on his shorts, while Naruto used the back of his head protector.

"If it's not too much trouble." Yugao shamelessly replied. There was no point in beating around the bush. Being able to store her sword without losing her ability to draw it quickly would make infiltrations much easier.

Without any changes in expression, two small paper squares appeared in her hand. One red paper and the other blue. Both had a ink triangle in the center.

Kamui explained the mechanism, "The red is the main storage seal and the blue is the receiver. Just place them on the spot you want to put them at and they'll attach themselves. It was aunt Kushina's idea. Mine's just not in Kanji form."

Nodding, Yugao took the pieces of paper. "Thank you." With that, she applied the red one on the inside of her jonin vest. Unlike what she expected though, there was no sealing fanfare. The black circle simply faded from one surface and appeared on the other. Sighing at the simplicity, she did the same with the blue paper, but put it on her dominant hand.

"You're welcome. You're my sensei after all. It wouldn't do for you to be working with outdated tools" Kamui explained with a smile, prompting Yugao's eyebrow to twitch.

"Alright. Let's go inside. It's time to receive our mission; the Hokage is expecting us." Kamui nodded.

Stepping inside the Hokage's office, they noticed him working through a stack of paperwork. Normally, there would be a series of clones working through this large number of documents, but today was special. He really wanted to be here for his daughter's first mission, just like he will do for Naruto and Sasuke on theirs. He actually plans on watching his son's bell test with Kakashi, even if no one knows he's there. Sakura should be the only concern in that class. Naruto and Sasuke may be at odds most of the time, but they've been a team for years due to being brothers in the same household.

"Alright, you ready for your first mission?" Minato asks, looking up from his stack of paperwork.

Kamui nods quietly. They've already had the long-drawn-out conversation at home.

"Good. A small trading town at the southern edge of the land of rivers has been experiencing multiple thefts from a new bandit group that has popped up. Due to frequent caravan raids, the land route between that port and the land of fire has been cut off; we need it opened. To give some context, that port is used as one of the land of fire's primary trading routes to receive goods from the lands of wind and tea. In short, if we don't take care of this quickly, it could weaken the fire daimyo's faith in us. So, the time limit for this mission will be 2 weeks. That's how long you have to kill the bandits before I get a letter on my desk from the daimyo." Minato explained, his stern expression making the seriousness of the matter clear.

"What's the highest level of threat we should expect on this mission?" Yugao asked.

"We haven't heard any reports of ninja involved with them, so we're expecting the highest threat you should expect to be a chunin level missing ninja. The real reason I'm sending you two on this mission is that it's a perfect opportunity to assess Kamui's ability to handle dealing death. If she were to reach her limit with what she's capable of with killing the bandits, you may step in. We'll figure out the missions you're most suited to from there." Yugao nodded.

"Are there any political concerns we should be aware of in the area?" Kamui asked. She was new to this, so she didn't want to spark a war by accident. It wasn't to hard to do in their world.

Minato pulled a folder off his desk and handed it to Yugao, then he explained, "It's all in here. Read up on it as you travel to mission point. Anything else?"

Neither asked anything further.

Minato nodded. "Good luck you two. You're dismissed." He said finally as his fist clenched beneath the desk. Sending your kid on their first mission was always challenging for a Hokage. Neither of the two-ninja noticed it though.

"Yes, Lord Fourth!" They stated and left the room.

Exiting the village gate, Yugao and Kamui began moving at a brisk pace southwest toward their destination. They traveled by moving quickly through the trees, a staple of ninja travel across the elemental nations, especially during travel through the heavily vegetated land of fire.

"So how long do you think it'll take us to get there?" Kamui asked.

"I would estimate about a day and a half if we keep moving at this speed."

Kamui sighed. "Sigh, I guess I'll have to get used to it then. Traveling with this much down time is something I don't think I'll get used to anytime soon." she complained.

Yugao chuckled and replied, "At least you have the ability to teleport. The Flying Thunder God Jutsu has proven invaluable to the fourth. He's reached a level with it that he can teleport anywhere that he's marked. With the number of missions he's conducted over time, he can be practically anywhere in the five great nations in about a day. Even then, as the Hokage, he can have someone use one of his marked kunai to do the traveling for him. The only reason that he doesn't is the massive chakra cost of traveling that far. He actually needs his wife to feed him chakra to make the jump without ending up exhausted on the other side." Kamui's eyes began sparkling.

"That'll be so useful and if I can reduce the chakra cost, I won't have to waste so much time!" Kamui said with a cheer.

"Indeed, but for now, you have to learn patience like everyone else." Yugao said with a smile.

Pondering, Kamui asked, "So, what did the fourth mean when he said that this mission will determine my future missions? I have an idea, but I'd like to learn the specifics." Yugao nodded.

Yugao explained, "The first mission outside the village for most ninja is c-rank with a small number kills expected. This is to help the jonin sensei and the Hokage map out the genin's career trajectory going forward. It's something the fourth started fifteen years ago to make better use out of the most shinobi he could. It became necessary to be more efficient when he advocated for raising the academy graduation age. Not all shinobi can handle killing large groups as would be needed in a mission like this. Some hit their mental limit at a few; those are either assigned to single assassination missions or support. You actually are already restricted from some types of missions."

Kamui interjected. "I am? What kind won't I be able to do?" She tried to withhold judgement for Yugao to finish. Especially since her dad already promised not to keep her in a metaphorical cage. She heard Asuma had that problem when he just starting out; his dad was the third Hokage after all.

Smiling at her apprentice's restraint, Yugao clarified, "As his daughter, there is no chance you would be assigned any seduction missions, which I'm happy for. Personally, I've never been assigned to them either; I joined the anbu quickly after I was promoted to chunin after all and they deal primarily in protection and assassination. Seduction is an option for some of those missions, but there are plenty of kunoichi who enjoy a little bit of 'recreational' sex before making the kill. Simply put, there was no shortage of other candidates."

Kamui let out a breath of relief. "Thank Kami. I expected as much, but it's nice to hear confirmation of that fact."

Confused, Yugao asked, "You've never asked that question before?" As inquisitive as this girl was, you'd think this would have come up at the academy.

Kamui let out an awkward chuckle. "Honestly, I've thought about it, but I never felt comfortable asking. How do you ask your mom and aunt if they've had sex with a stranger?"

That stumped Yugao. It made sense from a kid's perspective. Hell, even she would have trouble approaching the issue. No matter how logical one is, certain topics can be impossible to approach.

"I guess so…." Yugao responded, trailing off in response to the shocking realization. "Anyways, let's just keep moving." She said with an embarrassed cough.

Chuckling at her sensei, Kamui nodded and both continued on their journey.
