After the white light entered Obito's body, he froze in place, standing like a statue.
Within the starry void of his mental realm, Obito faced off against Akira. Strangely, even here in the mental realm, Obito kept his mask on, hiding his true face. It was clear that the identity of "Madara" had etched itself deeply into Obito's psyche.
Obito's expression was grim. The surprise attack from Akira just now had caused significant damage to his spirit. If not for inheriting Madara's Yin-Yang Release and awakening the Mangekyō Sharingan—both of which had transformed his mental strength—he would've been finished. Anyone else with the Mangekyō Sharingan would've been killed instantly by that strike.
(T/N: In chapter 606, Madara tells Obito he will teach him to use Yin–Yang Release techniques and subsequently implies he used Yin–Yang Release to create the White Zetsu.)
Obito could only survive because of his extraordinary mental resilience and mastery over Yin-Yang Release. Nevertheless, he was still shaken, having barely escaped death.
"The Spirit Transformation Technique… I didn't expect you to have mastered that," Obito muttered darkly behind his mask.
Akira looked at Obito, surprised he could counter the sudden attack. Yet, upon reflection, it wasn't unexpected, after all, Obito was no ordinary person. With Madara's legacy and the Mangekyō Sharingan at his disposal, his mental strength was formidable.
Looking at Obito's spirit, which now seemed faint and unstable, Akira smirked. "It's not surprising that you reacted in time. What's surprising is how you hide your face, even in a place like this. Afraid to show yourself?"
Akira's gaze swept over him. "Guess you really can't face anyone, huh?"
By now, Akira had no illusions about killing Obito here in his own mental space. Though Akira's spirit was stronger than Obito's, this was still Obito's territory. A prolonged battle would give Obito the advantage.
Predictably, Obito's temper flared at Akira's words, his Sharingan evolving into the Mangekyō's distinct pattern. With the surge of his ocular power, Akira felt a tremendous force pressing him from all sides.
"Hmph! You're lucky this time!" Akira spat before letting the repelling force expel him from Obito's mental realm.
In a dark cave, a faint, barely perceptible glimmer of white light flashed briefly. In the blink of an eye, Akira's spirit returned to his body in Konoha.
"After that hit, Obito won't risk healing out in the open… Now I just need to wait for him in the Kamui Dimension."
Without hesitation, Akira activated his left eye, causing ripples to form in space as a dark dimensional portal appeared. He stepped through it and vanished.
The entire process—from his spirit attack, return to his body, to entering the Kamui Dimension—took less than two seconds.
Back in the cave, Obito moved at last, his eyes narrowing. "He's mastered the Spirit Transformation Technique…"
Looking around the dark cave, Obito felt the ever-present threat of another ambush from Akira. Although Madara's teachings hadn't included this S-rank technique, there were notes about it in his legacy. With the Spirit Transformation Technique, the user's spirit could move nearly at the speed of light, making it almost impossible to dodge at close range. Unlike the Flying Thunder God Technique, it required no prep, once targeted, there was little escape.
"Staying out here to heal is too risky," Obito thought grimly. "Only in the Kamui Dimension am I truly safe."
Obito's mind shifted, activating Kamui, and he vanished into the darkness.
Within the Kamui Dimension, Obito appeared amidst endless stone pillars, feeling a sense of security wash over him. Here, he was invulnerable; no attack could reach him in this secluded dimension.
"Even if Akira had mastered the Flying Thunder God Technique, he couldn't find me here," Obito muttered.
Suddenly—shink—a cold, excruciating pain exploded in his chest. Looking down, he saw a kunai infused with wind chakra piercing through his left chest from behind.
"No, he can't sense my mark here with the Flying Thunder God Technique, but… what if he simply followed me in?" A chilling voice sounded behind him.
Obito, stricken with disbelief, struggled to turn his head, and saw a hole in the ground, where Akira had apparently emerged from below to deliver the fatal strike.
Akira smirked at the sight of Obito's blood seeping from beneath his mask. "How I got here isn't something you need to know. It's over, Obito."
Obito's eyes widened, his body trembling before he could even respond.
With a swift flash, Akira's blade sliced through Obito's neck, leaving a thin red line. Blood sprayed out in a fountain as Obito's masked head fell to the ground.
With Obito seemingly defeated, Akira stayed cautious, his gaze sharp. Though it was unlikely, he remained on high alert for the possible use of Izanagi.
One minute… two minutes… Finally, after waiting for a full ten minutes without any change, Akira allowed himself to relax.
He summoned a shadow clone, which removed Obito's mask to reveal a face twisted in anguish—a look of true restlessness, even in death.
