Chapter 41 Obito is awake

"So what did you want to ask me?" Asked Usagi as he looked at Kakashi who was smaller than him.

Him being a sixteen year old while the other party only looked to be 12 or so,

"I want to ask....is mission the most important thing for a ninja," Asked Kakashi as he looked at the burning fire.

"Obviously! A mission is very important to a ninja, I can't live on an empty stomach," smiled Usagi as he patted his stomach.

"Then... what if one day you have to choose between your mission or your teammates...what will you choose,Kaminari of leaf," asked Kakashi, his voice was steely as he gazed at the pondering Usagi.

Meanwhile, Usagi was lost in thought. He would definitely choose his loved ones over the mission. As long as his loved ones weren't his teammates, he could let them die with some guilt. However, he couldn't say that to Kakashi. So, he tried imagining if he ever came to love or cherish someone, perhaps someone like Anko.

Just the thought of her dying so the old bastards back in the village could breathe for an extra day was challenging for him. He honestly felt like the Konoha five were a joke, especially when the game was rigged from the start.

"I will choose my people!" Usagi answered looking into the eyes of Kakashi who felt incredulous, during his time on the battlefield, he had heard of the rising star called Kaminari.

For someone who is related to Jiraiya-sama to say something like this is baffling,

"There is nothing to be ashamed about it, tell me Kakashi, why do we fight and do all the dirty work?"

"To protect the village," he answered.

"Then humor me, suppose you are a top jonin and the mission requires you to die, will you lay down your life and just be done with it, costing Konoha a top jonin or will you become stronger so that no power dares to look into your eyes!" Usagi almost felt like a madman, the fire in his eyes reminded Kakashi of someone he once held dear to himself. He instinctively clutched the storage scroll on his body, housing the remains of the Fang blade.

"And what will your loved ones feel once you are gone, can you look into Rin and that stupid Obito's eyes and say guys I am going on a suicide mission,' Usagi asked as he gazed at the skies.

Kakashi kept silent for a few moments before he finally looked back at Usgai and gave a small bow.

"I understand..thank you, Usagi-san," Kakashi's eyes narrowed and Usagi picked up a rare smile from Kakashi.

"It's nothing, go and look after Obito, he is wounded and needs his loved ones,"

"Ok"

Kakashi walked away

"I didn't know you were so sentimental, Usagi!" Anko walked out from behind the tree as she happily snatched the bread from Usagi.

"Haha! Perhaps you don't know much about me after all," laughed Usagi as he snatched it back with his fast reflexes, going ahead and taking his bowl of soup from her hands.

"Right, So were you serious, You really think that teammates are more important than the mission," asked Anko, wondering if Usagi was just trying to console Kakashi who had a renowned past.

"Yeah....those who abandon their mission are scum..."

Anko breathed heavily, as expected, Usagi was just consoling the poor guy.

Anko didn't know what to say, The image of Usagi as he said these poetic and deep words were etched into her heart forever.

*Snatch*

"Let me EAT in peace!"

Kakashi walked back into the tent, surprised at the scene before him.

"You woke up?"

"Ye..ah! Yama can come and claim my soul himself! haha, Oww!"

"Be careful Obito, you have so many broken bones and especially your rib, here, drink this," Rin applied some cream and then helped Obito drink some medicine.

Kakashi felt a weight lift off his back as he looked at Obito alive and....alive.

"Oi! Kakashi! I asked if we completed the mission you bastard!"

"Oh! huh, Yeah...we did..."

"That's great...I wonder how much Hokage sama will pay us,"

"Technically this mission was given to Usagi-san and Minato-senpai..." Rin interjected, pouring cold water on Obito's expectation.

The atmosphere in the tent shifted to a harmonious one as Kakashi kept quiet most of the time as he listened to Obito make a fool of himself.

'I was really about to let this guy die... what's wrong with me...I am a scum,' Kakashi felt heavy.

... Soon after, Rin went out to get a serious medic ninja, leaving Kakashi and Obito alone.

"Sorry,"

"Sorry! huh!?" Obito looked at Kakashi, who also looked back in surprise.

Suddenly the two started chuckling which then turned into full-blown laughter,

Obito couldn't believe that Kakashi could ever apologize to someone so it was hilarious.

Meanwhile, Kakashi couldn't stop himself from seeing his comrade's face.
