Mystic Thief

Seventeen-year-old Devon Oasis became an orphan at the tender age of seven when his parents fell victim to an invasion. The tragedy occurred after their rival kingdom, Feuer, stole the power crystals that energized the defensive pillars of Devon's home kingdom, Audaznimo. The kingdom of Audaznimo was attacked on the same night the crystals were stolen, although the assault did not originate from Feuer. Audaznimo, having placed unwavering trust in the impregnable defense of the pillars, had let their guard down. Unfortunately, the pillars failed, resulting in a massacre of innocent lives. The method by which Feuer managed to dismantle the supposedly impenetrable towers remained a mystery to all. Although Audaznimo managed to push back the invaders, it was too late—the damage was already done. Devon, having lost his parents during the invasion, was fortunate to find solace with his uncle, the leader of a theft gang within the kingdom. Initially hesitant to involve his nephew in their illicit activities, Devon's uncle ultimately decided to impart his knowledge, believing it would benefit his nephew in various ways. Thus, Devon was introduced to the clandestine world of thievery. He became a part of the group, a group of young people of similar ages who had to steal to be able to sustain the orphanage. They were always reminded by his uncle that they were only stealing to make sure they survived at the orphanage since the kingdom didn't care about them and went on to lay out certain morals for them as thieves. However, Devon found those morals to be pointless because he had grown to love the thrill of stealing, the great sensation that came from being chased after taking someone's possessions. If there was anything he wanted, he was going to take it no matter what because to him, upholding morals as a thief was pointless and his fate as a thief was already sealed. Excerpt: "You know this is a B-ranked mission so Emilia will go with you and please try not to do anything careless?" His uncle's words rang in his mind as he freely tumbled down the hill of sand and when he finally hit the floor, he lost consciousness. [ Host is active ] [ System rebooting ] "What's going on?" He groaned as he sat up on the floor and pulled out the knife that was stuck on the left side of his abdomen, he was bleeding but surprisingly, he couldn't focus on that. [ Reboot completed ] [ Hello, Devon ] [ Your Master Thief System Is Active ] "What the heck is going on?" After mumbling those words, his vision slowly began to fade until he crashed down to the floor and passed out. What he obtained that day was a system that aligned perfectly with his major goal in life. "If all I have to do to become better at stealing is to keep stealing then that means I'm never going to stop for anything or anyone." ______ The story is going to start out a bit slow paced but I assure you that you're in for a ride because it won't take long before everything speeds up and the plot starts to get revealed bit by bit, enjoy! Chapter Thirty Four: New Partner

It only took a few seconds for Devon to find himself in his room, and as soon as he got there, he let out a deep sigh before crashing down on his bed.

He closed his eyes for a few seconds before slowly opening them with a sigh.

'That was something. Who would have thought that something like this would happen just after what happened last night.' He said subconsciously before slamming his palm into his face. 'It's quite a surprise to see that I have this mana thing, I'll have to talk to Erina about it later. Anyway, that seems to be the only reason why she's interested in me so if it was to somehow disappear then things would most likely change.'

The more he thought about it the less trustworthy Elena became in his eyes.

Her eyes sparked up as soon as she saw his mana composition which brought up the question of what would have happened to him if her hunch of him having dual mana was wrong.

'Maybe agreeing to go to her room wasn't the brightest idea, but then again, I didn't really have any choice.' He said subconsciously before sitting up on the bed.

He had his bag in his hand now because it was time to check everything he had been able to pick up today.

He opened up the bag and raised it to allow the contents to pour onto the bed. There were pieces of jewelry, several bronze and silver coins, the pouch of gold coins he got from Elena, and then finally a silver but plain-looking ring.

"Hmph." He muttered before picking up the ring.

That wasn't part of the items he was able to get while everyone was trying to get to safety, that was something he took while he was on academy grounds from someone who had been standing close to him the whole time except for when he had to fight.

[ 450/500 Mystic Points ]

He thought the ring was going to be pretty valuable since someone like that was putting it on but that didn't seem to be the case since he managed to get only a hundred mystic points from it.

After dropping everything on his bed, he picked them all up and shoved them into the cupboard except the coins, he needed to put those somewhere safer.

Now that his bag was empty once again, he closed it up before strapping it around his waist.

"Now, let's go see who's still here." He muttered before making his way out of the room.

Just as he expected, the hallway was empty and when he made his way to the meeting room expecting to find at least his Uncle there, it turned out to be empty too.

"Hmph, Erina will definitely be in the treatment room."

Well, he turned out to be wrong once again because he was standing in the room now and Erina was nowhere to be found.

"Just where the heck did they all go?" He muttered.

After looking around the area for a while, he finally decided to make his way outside.

He expected to see someone in the entrance hall up there but there was no one there.

However, this time he wasn't bothered and just walked straight until he was out of the building.

There was a sudden gust of wind which the tree beside the large rock caught and threw at him for him to get a second feeling of that fresh air.

This caused him to turn his gaze to the tree and now he wanted to climb the rock.

He let out a deep breath before he began to make his way to the rock. He was just about to start climbing it when he spotted two people at the far end with an archery target a little distance ahead of them. One was blonde and the other was red-haired so he recognized them immediately.

It looked like Emilia was teaching Sofia archery but her friend didn't seem to be getting the hang of it because while there was no arrow on the archery board, there was a lot on the floor.

She shot out another arrow with her clumsy hands and it ended up flying past the board to drop to hit the floor.

"You have to keep your hands steady or things will keep on ending like that," Emilia remarked before rolling her eyes.

Her leg wasn't completely healed yet, but she could stand and walk well enough on her own now, and as long as the wounded area wasn't exposed, she could go outside.

"Yeah, I'm trying to but I don't know…" Sofia retorted with a sigh before slumping down to the floor. "I never knew archery was this hard."

"Well, learning how to use the other weapons isn't easy either and I'm still wondering why you want to learn archery now since you've been practicing how to use a sword for a while now." Emilia expressed before slowly sitting down beside her.

"Well, that used to be fun when Krayan was my teacher but now he just tells me to go away so I figured I might give archery a try and see how it is." She replied with her gaze now on the floor.

"Oh."

"You know I'm really curious," Sofia said before quickly turning her gaze to her friend.

"About what?"

"None of the others seem to know anything about archery yet you're so good at it, how did you get so good at it?" She inquired.

"Oh," Emilia replied before slowly bringing her gaze down. "My mother was an archer."

"Your mother," Sofia muttered with a regretful voice realizing now that she shouldn't have asked that question.

"Yeah, she used to be an adventurer until she met my father, she still kept on being an adventurer only that she stopped taking commissions that took her to far places and then when she got pregnant she stopped taking commissions entirely." She expressed with a smile on her face but that smile didn't last. "She started teaching me how to use the bow when I was just three. She started with a small bow and as I got bigger she would keep increasing it. My fifth birthday was coming up when she suddenly…."

"Hey, you don't have to talk about it if you don't want to," Sofia uttered before putting her arm around her shoulder.

It sounded like she was about to break down in tears there so she had to stop her.

After listening to all that Devon's mood seemed to have gone down, and just as he let out a sigh, he felt someone's touch on his shoulder.

His reaction was one of immense shock as he quickly turned around and would have surely said something if the person that sneaked up on him from behind hadn't been Aurora.

"Hey, you know it's not nice to sneak up on people like that." He whispered in annoyance.

He was whispering because he didn't want Emilia and Sofia to know they were there.

"Well, it looked like you were having the time of your life eavesdropping on them," Aurora remarked with a grin.

"I wasn't eavesdropping, I was um…."

"Yeah, yeah, whatever just come over here, we have something important to deal with." She brushed him and began making her way to the entrance hall.

"Something important." He muttered with a blissful look on his face before quickly rushing after her. "What is this important thing that we have to deal with?" He asked as soon as he walked inside where she was already waiting for him.

"Michael wants us to take care of a mission." She replied before pulling out a scroll from the bag she had around her waist.

"Me and you?" He muttered with a shocked expression on his face.

"Yeah, I don't like it either." She sighed but she seemed to have gotten the wrong idea.

"No, this is great but what about Krayan?"

"You think this is great?" She muttered with a confused expression on her face. "Anyway, Krayan is already out on a mission."

"By any chance is it with Erina because I didn't see her in the treatment room a few minutes ago?" He asked.

"And just why are you asking me that stupid question? You know Erina can't go on missions." She snapped at him expecting him to respond in a similar way.

"Oh, so it was a solo mission then." He responded with a surprisingly low voice before turning his gaze back to her. "Anyway, what are the details of the mission?"

She kept her gaze on him for a while before slowly opening the scroll she was holding and with the scroll now open, it turned out it was a map.

"The big shot crystal trader Mr. Almando is going out with two A-ranked adventurers today to hunt for crystals, our mission is to take those crystals after they're done collecting them." She disclosed.
