Mystic Thief

Seventeen-year-old Devon Oasis became an orphan at the tender age of seven when his parents fell victim to an invasion. The tragedy occurred after their rival kingdom, Feuer, stole the power crystals that energized the defensive pillars of Devon's home kingdom, Audaznimo. The kingdom of Audaznimo was attacked on the same night the crystals were stolen, although the assault did not originate from Feuer. Audaznimo, having placed unwavering trust in the impregnable defense of the pillars, had let their guard down. Unfortunately, the pillars failed, resulting in a massacre of innocent lives. The method by which Feuer managed to dismantle the supposedly impenetrable towers remained a mystery to all. Although Audaznimo managed to push back the invaders, it was too late—the damage was already done. Devon, having lost his parents during the invasion, was fortunate to find solace with his uncle, the leader of a theft gang within the kingdom. Initially hesitant to involve his nephew in their illicit activities, Devon's uncle ultimately decided to impart his knowledge, believing it would benefit his nephew in various ways. Thus, Devon was introduced to the clandestine world of thievery. He became a part of the group, a group of young people of similar ages who had to steal to be able to sustain the orphanage. They were always reminded by his uncle that they were only stealing to make sure they survived at the orphanage since the kingdom didn't care about them and went on to lay out certain morals for them as thieves. However, Devon found those morals to be pointless because he had grown to love the thrill of stealing, the great sensation that came from being chased after taking someone's possessions. If there was anything he wanted, he was going to take it no matter what because to him, upholding morals as a thief was pointless and his fate as a thief was already sealed. Excerpt: "You know this is a B-ranked mission so Emilia will go with you and please try not to do anything careless?" His uncle's words rang in his mind as he freely tumbled down the hill of sand and when he finally hit the floor, he lost consciousness. [ Host is active ] [ System rebooting ] "What's going on?" He groaned as he sat up on the floor and pulled out the knife that was stuck on the left side of his abdomen, he was bleeding but surprisingly, he couldn't focus on that. [ Reboot completed ] [ Hello, Devon ] [ Your Master Thief System Is Active ] "What the heck is going on?" After mumbling those words, his vision slowly began to fade until he crashed down to the floor and passed out. What he obtained that day was a system that aligned perfectly with his major goal in life. "If all I have to do to become better at stealing is to keep stealing then that means I'm never going to stop for anything or anyone." ______ The story is going to start out a bit slow paced but I assure you that you're in for a ride because it won't take long before everything speeds up and the plot starts to get revealed bit by bit, enjoy! Chapter Four: One Thing After The Other

It didn't take long before that smile disappeared from his face as he quickly sent a punch down the face of the man on his right and before the other one could react, he quickly tackled him down and knocked him out with a punch.

The other one wasn't unconscious yet and was trying to get up now but Devon wasn't going to give him the time to do that as he sent a kick toward his head to knock him out.

'That didn't go as smoothly as I wanted but it was good enough, it's a good thing they weren't strong.' He said subconsciously as he made his way to the other side to get to the entrance to the cart. 'Now, let's grab the prize and figure out how I got down here like that.'

Finding the prize wasn't hard as he spotted the golden chalice as soon as he entered the cart and he didn't hesitate to try and grab it but that was just it.

His hands stopped moving as soon as he touched the chalice because he had a Katana blade against his throat.

He slowly tilted to the side to see that the person holding the blade was putting on a hood just like him so he couldn't make out the face of the person.

"You're pretty careless compared to your partner."

The person was clearly a female judging by how feminine her voice sounded.

Devon wasn't even given the chance to say anything as an arrow quickly came flying directly into the cart.

The arrow was going directly toward the girl holding her blade against his throat forcing her to quickly pull back her blade to block the arrow.

Devon used the opportunity to his advantage as he quickly grabbed the chalice before dashing toward the exit.

She quickly struck her blade toward him at that time, and just before Devon could fall out from the cart, he dropped the chalice while he was pulling out his sword which he quickly used to block her strike as the two crashed to the floor.

She fell on his body and now that their faces were close to each other, they caught a glimpse of each other's face.

The only thing Devon could make out was that she had sliver hair and Emerald Green eyes before she raised her sword and attempted to stab him.

Devon was going to attempt to block it with his sword but there was no need for that as two arrows came flying toward her at that time.

She quickly jumped back to avoid the first one before using her blade to block the second one.

Emilia came out of her hiding place to fire those arrows and as soon as Devon spotted her, he grabbed the chalice which was right beside him and threw it to her.

"Here!"

Emilia was able to catch the chalice but before she could do anything with it, the silver-haired girl zoomed past Devon to get to her.

At that moment, Devon caught a glimpse of lightning around her and that was when he remembered.

'She had a mark on her neck, this isn't good.'

She quickly grabbed the chalice from Emilia before sending her back with a kick.

Despite getting the chalice taken from her, Emilia wasn't going to back down that easily as she quickly pulled the thin string she attached to the chalice to quickly take it off the silver-haired girl's hand and return it to her.

She was going to take care of Devon first, but after seeing the chalice fly off her hand like that, she quickly turned her gaze back to Emilia who was panting on the floor now.

She bit her lower lip before a smile suddenly appeared on her face.

The smile of someone about to commit murder.

"You're quite talented compared to most road thieves that I've had to deal with and that's strange considering how you seem to be quite young, it's a shame things have to end this way for you and your partner."

As soon as she said that, both of her hands were quickly covered with lightning and she didn't hesitate in shooting out the stream of lightning from both hands toward her target.

"No!" Devon yelled as he quickly rushed toward her but there was no way he was going to get there before the lightning.

Emilia couldn't get out of the way on time as the lightning struck her forcing out a scream of pain from her.

"Ahhhhhh!" She screamed in pain of the excruciatingly painful electrical currents passing through her body.

She wasn't allowed to stay under that influence for long though as Devon got to her soon after the lightning got to her.

He quickly picked up the chalice along with her ignoring the pain from the electric current that began to pass through his body as soon as he touched her.

He quickly zoomed off with her heading toward the cliff which they had come from as the girl tried to hit him with lightning bolts.

"Oh, please work again." He muttered as he ran toward the cliff with his gaze on it as numerous lightning bolts dropped down around him.

He suddenly got hit by one of the lightning bolts and was about to drop to his knees when he suddenly vanished something that caught his attacker by surprise as she immediately stopped attacking.

"He had an ability? But I didn't see a mark on his neck." She muttered with a confused expression on her face as her hood slowly fell off.

After getting up the cliff, Devon managed to drag Emilia who had already passed out along with his body which had been partially numbed by that lightning bolt until he got to a spot that looked safe to him.

He slowly placed Emilia against a tree where she could rest her head before he slowly pulled down his hood and removed the clothing entirely to check his left shoulder where the lightning bolt hit him and it wasn't looking good.

It didn't look that critical but that part of his skin had taken a darker color.

'At least we made it out alive and with the chalice.' He said subconsciously.

He quickly took off Emilia's green robe to check if the lightning left a similar effect on her skin but it didn't look like it did and to that, he let out a sigh of relief.

The only thing it did was turn her skin red but it was slowly going back to its normal color now. She was lucky she didn't stay under the influence of the lightning for long, she could have turned black considering how she didn't have protection from any ability.

"I'm so sorry, Emmy." He muttered before slowly shaking his head.

"It's not your fault." She muttered with a frail voice before slowly opening her eyes. "Someone was going to go in anyway and it's not like you knew anything about her having an ability, but still, you should have tried to be a bit careful."

'I really tried to be careful and rational this time and things still ended up this way for us.'

"I'm just glad, you're okay, Emilia."

"I'm glad we're both okay."

She tried to smile but ended up wincing instead as she tried to get up at that same time.

"Hey, don't try to move," Devon said before slowly pushing her back against the tree. "Just rest here for a bit, you'll feel better soon."

"Okay." She muttered.

"I just hope this item is a priceless one for what we had to go through to get it." He remarked before placing his hand on the chalice.

'What the?'

"Um….Devon…"

Emilia wasn't able to finish what she wanted to say as the two suddenly heard a deep grunt.

Emilia could see what it was because she was looking at it right now, but Devon had to turn around to see the wild boar.

"A wild boar." He muttered.

"Devon, look at its fur."

Focusing on its fur now, Devon could see that the beast had a little bit of red fur underneath the brown one.

"A fire boar." He muttered with a look of terror on his face.

'One thing after the other.'
