Chapter 11

"You know... I know this is an apocalypse and all." I drawled out as I spoke slowly at the sight before our convoy. "But seriously?" I whispered at the literal tidal wave of zombies that were congregating around the Tokyo mall.

Sure the majority of the zombies were actually surrounding the mall and not in the way as we were a good ways away on the main roads passing by the mall. But that meant out of what looked like a hundred thousand-something zombies that congregated there due to the already massive population of people within the mall that got turned and all the noise that then kept the zombies in the area, there were still hundreds if not a couple thousand zombies on the roads.

Even a mile away from the mall when we had a bus window open we could hear the droning noises of the countless zombies making noises.

"Jake, that horde can flip our buses... Plus you can see the tanks, tall boys, and other special infected moving through the hordes." Takashi reminded me and I frowned as our buses and trucks needed diesel and Tokyo wasn't actually fond of diesel vehicles en mass due to all the pollution so only certain places actually had the fuel.

"Is there another fuel depot we can stock up at?" I asked the teacher driving and he nodded but his words made me frown as, to put it bluntly we either had to pass the zombie hoard and hope the special infected didn't decide to come to get us as our convoy had to move super slow due to the buses having to weave around the abandoned vehicles, or we had to loop back towards the school and go south instead of north to the more industrial and ghetto part of Tokyo in the Sanya district.

For a moment I considered our options before I shook my head. "I don't know Tokyo much at all but I suggest we give up on getting past that horde," I said frowning as I considered if there was a way I could actually start thinning out such a hoard as the school wasn't even a dozen miles away from the mall.

"I say we go back," Saeko spoke up and the other teenagers hurriedly nodded in agreement with Takashi frowning before nodding his assent as well.

"Gotta wonder if survivors are in that mall if all those zombies are sticking around as well." He spoke wryly and I could imagine it as well. Some poor bastards managed to hide in an industrial refrigerator or pull down one of the shop's cages to block off the entrance to said store.

But either way, their lives were going to be short brutal things if they hadn't already died of thirst with the apocalypse has been going on for a week.

"Mr. Boshiken, tell the rest that we are turning around to drop off our loot and the girls we picked up at the police station, then we will be heading to that industrial fuel depot." I said as I went back to sitting down against the wall of the bus and as the teacher reported the new destination I just tried to keep my head clear as I heard the lovely sounds of bones and viscera being shattered and splattered around as our bus ran over zombies in the act of turning around.

A couple of minutes later I spoke up to Takashi and Saeko. "Any thoughts on how we could thin out that horde?" I asked wryly. Honestly, I was well assured of my ability to outrun and even kill a couple hundred tall boys and tanks from a distance with a sniper rifle and patches of lava... But in the reality of tens of thousands of zombies with special infected filling the endless horde coming after me?

I had to give way and just flee as I had no solution to that scenario.

Instead of those two, I asked for answers from, Hiro the gun nut of the canon cast raised a hand with a smile as he spoke. "An attack helicopter with incendiary missiles could probably do it. Or you could build a super deep pit with lava at the bottom with a solar-powered radio or stereo making a lot of noise hanging over the pit to attract the zombies?" He spoke and I blinked in surprise as sure his first words were worthless as there wasn't a single teacher or myself who could fucking steal or operate a military helicopter but his second plan wasn't a bad one.

With the somber knowledge of the horde not even being a half dozen miles away from our school we shared a mostly silent ride back to the school and once we arrived and unloaded what we got from the police station of course people started freaking out when the drivers and other students told the others about the horde out there.

So ten minutes later as I was trying to figure out how the fuck to spit out a pressurized ball of water from my mouth with a water jutsu 'and failing horribly' just making a mess. A series of hurried knocking rang out on my door. "What? I thought we were taking a half hour before leaving again!" I yelled as I stood back up with a muffled curse as I approached the door as I threw it open I saw it was Hina my pink-haired lover who was panting from probably running up all four flights of stairs to get to my room.

"Jake... They are rioting at the news of the hoard!" She gasped holding her side and my blood went cold as I could faintly hear yelling outside I had just thought it was the students being rowdy from being cooped up.

I literally sprinted back to the end of my room and with a crashing noise I pulled off an upturned desk that was covering a window and I snarled as I saw a bunch of people literally burning supplies in the middle of the track field. I then grabbed my gun and with a series of loud cracking noises, I seemingly shot three people who were about to throw a large cardboard box filled with ramen packets into the bonfire.

The sight of those three people's chests having fist-sized holes blown into them, made the people outside scream with true fear before I put down the gun and yelled outside and over the din with my powers-enhanced voice.

"Shut the fuck up! If I see a fucking tissue still burning when I get to the ground floor I am going to show you, people, the exact definition of Roman decimation!" I roared furiously my body glowing with the dark blue energies of my aura and chakra.

Sheep... Sheep who wanted to watch the world entirely burn when their lives became inconvenient and the other sheep who just followed the actions of the suicidal. Things could be going perfectly in life with your favorite sports team winning and then a large 'parade' would start with cars being flipped over and countless other crimes being committed in the herd of people doing crazy shit.

By the time I got down to the ground floor of the school the students and teachers were literally shivering in place as I stomped towards the back section of the school where the riot happened.

"Where are the lunch ladies and how the fuck did this happen?!" I roared demanding answers and I saw Takashi being supported by another of his friends and being led over to me and I frowned seeing how there was blood coming down the side of his head... And for him who had the aura to get so hurt something seriously wrong must have happened.

"They are dead Jake... Shido and his fucking cronies came in through a service tunnel that leads into the school sports stadium using Shido's keys and killed them. Then Shido apparently instigated the riot when he lit the school kitchens on fire and before it could get put out he left." Takashi said spitting some blood to the ground I had to take a deep breath as I looked at the people staring at the ground and refused to meet my eyes.

I spoke softly and concisely, but my voice was heard by all. "I do not need to be here. I do not need to be your leader. This is literally the apocalypse, if you fools decide you wish to die, don't drag me down with you, and as I said before."

I hefted up my gun and then walked over to the people I shot previously as I looked to the teenage volunteers and teachers who had already proven themselves as part of the group with their willingness to actually help me get supplies. "Any would-be rioters and crazies will be executed as humanity has no resources or desire to deal with your gripes and issues with the collapsing world," I said bluntly and with a loud crunching noise my axe came down on the head of the man who was whimpering at how his guts were blown out onto the fake grass of the track field.

"Drivers, volunteer's arm up and get back on the buses and go refuel and acquire supplies," I ordered and Saeko pushed through the silent crowd and spoke up.

"Are you leaving us now?" She asked softly I shook my head but paused and shrugged.

"Maybe I don't know, I am going hunting to get rid of Shido... We can't let him poison our water next." I said tiredly as I turned away from the students and teachers who disappointed me and as I was walking Hina came to my side and followed me as I entered the service tunnel that Shido apparently took and from the bloody footprints I had my money on that being the case.

"Are you going to kill Shido?" Hina softly asked me as we came out of the service tunnel outside the school and I saw how there was a few bodies on the ground that were obviously zombies that Shido killed on his way in with how they had smashed in heads.

At her words, I for a minute was silent as we followed the footsteps across the street and into an alley between the houses that once surrounded the school that I had torn down for supplies and once we lost the tracks with the bloody footprints being lost I spoke finally. "I don't like it... I don't like the idea of killing people. But my life is more valuable than some crazy person who wants to pull the rug out from under us for whatever reason." I started and then I looked up from the road we were walking on and I smiled as I fucking realized where that rat was living oh so damned easily at this point.

A good couple miles away, on top of a hill and surrounded by other high-end mansions was the Takagi estate and with Shido's father being high up in the government I had no doubt he would have tried to schmooze up with the Takagi family who in canon were able to hold out.

"Let's go meet Saya's family and flush out a rat then..." I said coldly smiling as I knew from using our radio that the Takagi estate still had people as Saya was happy to hear from her mother at least but I didn't know if her father was actually there.
