Chapter 65 - the Trial Run

After preparing with Chris, there were no more things Milo needed to do to get ready, besides preparing himself mentally.

The day had finally arrived for the test date to happen and Milo dressed in a new pair of black pants, a nice pair of shoes, and a tee shirt with a blazer. He took a look in the mirror and fixed his hair hoping that he wasn't over doing it. After getting himself cleared for take off by Chris, Milo went to meet Krista at the front of the dorm building.

When he got there, he was happy to see that he hadn't gotten overdressed. Krista was wearing a white sundress with a floral pattern running up the sides, she was also wearing a pair of sandals that had leather intertwined running up to her ankle. He made her way over to her and complimented her on her appearance, not knowing what else to say.

After an awkward moment of silence, Krista broke the tension. "Would you like to get something to eat?" she asked.

"Uh yeah, eating would be great," Milo replied flustered.

The two then made their way into the city to find a suitable restaurant. After finding one they both thought would be good, they sat down. While sitting down the two felt awkward, unlike their usual interactions, the two of them tiptoed around everything. The meal went on with them chatting for a bit before a long period of silence would weave itself in, not what either of them was expecting or planning for. They both felt that it was too awkward, when talking as friends it was so natural, but with them knowing this was meant to be a date they were holding themselves back more than usual.

Following the awkward meal, the two decided to go take a walk around a park, which just like the meal was filled with awkward silence. Before lastly making their way to see a movie. Because one was supposed to be silent during a movie, it was the least awkward part of the date, or so they thought it would be. When taking their seats, Milo and Krista's fingers brushed up against each other as they each tried to claim the arm rest between them, causing them to pull their arms back all of a sudden. For the rest of the movie, the pair had their hands together in their lap.

While the two were out and about, little did they know they had a group of spies watching their every move.

"What are they doing now?" asked Chris.

"Nothing interesting just stop talking and let me watch," replied Allana.

"Are you sure that it's okay for us to do this, you guys?" chimed in Mark.

Chris and Allana had decided that they wanted to follow Krista and Milo and observe their date to see how things turned out between the two. Mark had unfortunately been dragged along. While spying on the two of them, Chris and Allana argued a lot about what was happening between the two, but they had both come to the same consensus. The two both looked uncomfortable, like they were trying too hard to make it work and didn't know how to.

After the movie ended, Milo and Krista found a place on the edge of the Acropolis where they could look out at the open ocean the artificial island was floating on.

After sitting in silence for some time, Milo finally broke the silence. "Did you have fun today?" he asked.

"Yeah, but I can't help but feel that it didn't go exactly the way I'd planned it in my head," she responded.

Milo felt the same way, whenever the two hung out as friends in the past, there was never this awkward tension in the air. It made the date seem like they were trying too hard. After talking some more, Milo found out that Krista noticed the same thing.

"Maybe we were just meant to be friends," she said.

"I think you're right," Milo said in response, "Whenever we hung out in the past, it felt much more relaxed. Today I felt so uptight and cautious because I didn't want to say the wrong thing or disappoint you."

After hearing him say this, Krista was a bit disappointed, she liked Milo but she liked the carefree Milo that came around when out with friends. If he couldn't be that way while out on a date with her, she couldn't see it working out.

After the two had made up their mind, she and Milo made their way back to the campus, where Milo walked her up to her room. While standing outside the room Chris, Mark and Allana were standing inside with their ears pressed against the door, which slid open unexpectedly causing the snoopers to go tumbling into the hallway at Milo and Krista's feet.

"Uhhh, hey you two," said Chris, "How'd the date go?"

Pressing his palm to his head, Milo said, "It felt too awkward so we decided to stay friends."

Krista nodded in agreement before helping Allana up.

"At least you guys tried," she said, "now you know whether or not it would've worked and no one will have any regrets."
