26: The arrival

SAM'S POV

The flight took us almost 16 hours on air.

By the time we've landed at the airport, halos mamatay na'ko dahil sa bagot. I don't know if Mr. Del Fuero felt the same as I did dahil parang wala naman itong ibang ginawa kundi isubsob ang mukha nito sa trabaho and his laptop throughout our flight. I hadn't even noticed if he ever attempted to sleep. Ang alam ko lang, I don't give a damn with him!!

Kasalukuyan na kaming bumababa ngayon mula sa eroplano with nothing in my bag but my phone and wallet only.

Just that. Shit! Kung hindi lang sana ako nagmamadali kahapon na sumama sa trip na'to, I could've packed enough clothes just for this trip!

A sigh of frustration escape from me nang sumagi 'yon sa isipan ko, frustrated just the thought of it.

It's only 5:26am in the morning here in Canada, kaya naman sobrang lamig pa ng paligid. The freeziy morning felt like frosting my muscles, teasing my poor situation. If I hadn't mentioned yet, nalalapit na ngayon ang pasko so it was expected to have this abnormally cold temperature.

When another cold air welcomed me, I felt like my muscles have been paralyzed with it.

Pero kahit nanginginig pa'ko sa lamig, agad na'kong bumaba ng hagdanan while tightly hugging my poor self with my bag slung on my shoulder.

Nauna na'kong bumaba with the other staffs on board with us, leaving Mr. Del Fuero inside. I am just too excited to buy something warm right to survive from this foreign country.

Pagkalabas ko, I was greeted with the familiar signboard of the Airport. So familiar that I almost regretted coming in this place, in the place where we had once spent our vacation with the family.

A sudden heavy feelings crept up inside me as I thought about it, making me hard to breath . I quickly shook those thoughts off my head.

Now isn't the right moment to be nostalgic and weak. I'm here for my mission. Get that del fuero spill the info I need and be done with my own case.

I suddenly halted at the last step of the stairs as I was again reminded with the reason why I'm here.

Yes. That's right, Sam. Yan lang ang dapat mong isipin at gawin ngayon. Don't let those old memories stopped you from doing the right thing. To let those bastards pay for ruining your life....

A sudden lump formed in my throat when I thought about it. I could even feel my eyes started to sting with tears now as I blankly stared at nowhere.

"Are you done killing those poor sceneries, Ms. Javier o kailangan mo pa ng mga ilang minuto just to stupidly stand there and let us all froze here???!!"

That angry and firm voice behind me pulled me from my own misery world.

With a groan, I turned to him with a glare and found him with the staffs standing behind him na halatang naiinip na. Annoyance was carved in all capital letters all over his face as his dark brows almost overlapping each other. A briefcase was in his right hand while the other hand was in his pocket.

"Killing you was much more preferable to do right now, Mr. Del 'toro'." I angrily spat, copying the name na siyang ginamit ng kaibigan nya slash captain ng eroplanong 'to.

A deep chuckle of a man from behind them suddenly rang out through the cold air the moment I uttered that.

Agad namang dumilim ang mukha ni Mr. Del fuero as his elephant ears reddened and his glare at me intensified, halatang hindi nagustuhan ito especially that someone who was laughing right now at his expense.

"Will you shut your goddamn mouth, Captain Corteza???" Galit na saad nito sabay lingon sa likuran nito, causing the staffs blocking the captain from the view hastily stepped to the side and revealing the laughing captain. Probably they're scared to be pierced by their employer's dagger look.

At the sight of the captain, napapatango na lang ako. I can tell that he had the same height with Mr.del fuero's but not with his behaviour for sure. His black hair was slightly wavy and long, but not as long as Allan's shoulder length hair..

At imbes na tumigil ito sa katatawa, he just laughed more causing his friend's glare turned deadly while the staffs was busy giving their dear captain a pleading and warning look.

But then as great as he was, nagpatuloy lang ito sa pagtawa.

"Calm down, Mon àmí my friend..Natutuwa lang ako sa trip na'to.." Saad nito when his laugh died down while wiping the tears at the side of his eyes.

"Oh shit... I didn't know this woman had some badass in her." Saad niya while shaking his head with a grin which I answered with a smirk.

Of course, I can't just ignore this man who would possibly be a great help if I ever decided to kill Mr. Del fuero without even wasting a single drop of sweat.

"Should I throw a party for you then, captain Corteza nang mas lalo kapang matuwa??!" Came Mr. Del Fuero's sarcastic remark, irritation was visible in his voice.

At the mention of that 'party' word, the captain's face suddenly lit up in excitement.

"Oh yes! A party! I think it's the nicest thing to do tonight, Del tor---" the captain quickly clamped his mouth when he slipped then cleared his throat.

"Ang ibig kong sabihin del Fuero, why don't we go party tonight?Tulad no'ng dati lang, with Montero and Enri-----"

"No. Hindi ako nandito to waste my time for some useless party, Corteza at mas lalong hindi kita isinama rito to waste yourself somewhere and then disturbed me in a middle of the night to rescue your ass." He snapped as his back turned rigid than usual.

Oh.... So that means, they used to do that party things before with liam and whoever that another friend of them.

Hmmm.... I wonder how the hell del Fuero became like this, a cold bastard as he was now.

"Yeah, yeah... No need to remind me bro and wound me with your insensitive words.." The captain answered with a nod saka bumaba na ng tuluyan and then walked towards my way.

"Mas mabuti pang iba nalang ang isama ko instead of you, del fuero." he said while gazing at me with eyes glinting with pure excitement.

Parang alam ko na kung sino ang isasama nito..

"Del Fuero, pwede ko bang hiramin sandali ang secretary mo later tonight? Alam kong busy ka naman sa business meetings mo kàya pwede naman siguro ano?" Paalam nito nang makalapit sa'min, smiling at me and then to his stonyfaced-friend who only have disapproval on his face, killing the excitement I felt right now.

Hindi agad ito nagsalita and just murdered his dear friend with his spearlike look but after a few moment, his glare shifted to me, wearing his furrowed brows and tight jaw. I quickly held up my chin, challenging him to say no.

"Do whatever you two want, Corteza. I have no bloody care to it." He said before he walked passed me and leave us with his back stiffed as stirring rod.

Good thing he hadn't contradicted that and just walked out like that.

With a smirk, my gaze just followed his retreating back as he get into the waiting car from afar.

Sighing, bumaba narin ako to follow his lead.

"I think hindi ko pa naipapakila ang sarili ko sa'yo,Ms. Secretary.."

Hearing that, I turned to the captain and found him a few feet away from me with a playful smirk curved on the side of his mouth.

"I'm Captain Mason Corteza.. And you are???" He asked the moment na makalapit sya sa'kin while holding his hand out for a handshake.

I noticed the other staffs na pababa pa lamang, especially the female species were throwing us a dirty glare with their brows almost reaching the seventh pit of their foreheads.

Though I wanted to prick some needles in their yellow eyes, I resisted that strong urge and just ignored the prying maggots.

Instead, I shook with the captain's hand while giving him a smile that could take off someone's underwear.

"I'm Samantha Javier, Mr. Corteza but just call me Sam. I'm glad na nakilala kita sa trip na'to."

His smirk instantly became a wide grin and then I yelped out when he suddenly grabbed my hand na hawak-hawak nito and then hugged me in surprise.

Well,maybe surprised was just an understatement with what I really felt right now.

Alarmingly, my palms quickly found his chest and was about to push him off pero mas lalo lang nito hinigpitan ang pagkakayapos sa'kin, stopping me to make any movement.

"Captain---"

"Don't move, Samantha. Please help me. Save me from those red-lipped-piranhas behind me. Parang gusto na nila akong lamunin ng buhay! Save me from those creatures please!!!" Biglang bulong nito sa tenga ko, stopping me from whatever protest I wanted to voice out.

"Red-lipped-piranhas? Sino bang tinutukoy mo?" I asked in confusion.

"Those women behind us! Can't you see the look in their eyes?"

Frowning, I peek through those women behind.

And there, I found those red lips flight attendants who were throwing a glare at me that promising to claw my eyes out kung hindi ko pa nilayuan ang target prey nila.

Their poor captain.

At that realization, I can't help but chuckled in amusement.

"I said 'save me', Samantha, not laughed at me!"he whisper-yelled at me.

I just shook my head while still smiling.

Oh geez, I didn't know this man was more worse than Liam Montero. I wonder why he wanted me to rescue him from those women when that's what every men wished for.

Their attention.

Hindi naman siguro bakla ang isang to ano?

That idea made me curious to know about it.

"Are you gay, Captain?"

The moment I've asked that, bigla na lamang niya 'kong binitawan and then looked at me with horror look on his face.

"The hell no!" He whisper-shouted at me. Obviously shocked with it.

"Hmm.. Seryoso?" I eyes him in suspicion which him grunted.

"Seryoso. Hindi ko lang talaga gusto ang mga babaeng 'yon. They were too desperate for my taste."

I just nodded at him.

"If you say so..." I answered while still giving him an unconvinced tone, wanted to make fun of him.

Causing him to suddenly give me a pout while giving me a glare, looking like a child nagging at his mom.

"I said I'm not, Samantha. I can even kiss you right now to prove it." He nagged saka akma na sanang lalapit sa'kin to probably prove that but good thing I was quick enough to take a meter-long step backward kaya naman hindi nito naituloy ang nais sanang gawin.

Seeing my sudden reaction and my disapproval frown, it was his turn now to laugh at my expense.

"And now you're scared!" Then again, he burst out into another laughter.

"No. I wasn't scared, Captain. I just don't want to be kissed."

"Ohhh.. Is that so?"

"Yes."

Are you sure? Not even some granite-headed and stingy bastard?

I quickly shook my head when my smart-ass mind suddenly commented that.

Oh shit. Bakit bigla ko nalang naisipan 'yon? Hindi naman ako interesado sa kanya and definitely not planning to be one!!!

He just nodded his head in understanding.

"You know what, I think we have to go now. I'm starting to freeze here and I don't want to imagine how I would look like when frozen."

A chuckle instantly came out from me the moment he'd uttered that, amused with him sounding like a woman.

Oh God.. I think ------

Hindi ko na natapos ang iba ko pang sasabihin when a loud honk of some car suddenly blared out behind me, making my heart to almost leap out of my chest dahil sa kung sinumang hinayupak ang gumawa no'n!

With gritted teeth, I quickly whirled around and was ready to bit someone's head off pero siyang inis ko na lamang when I found the same black car na nakita ko kanina where del fuero hopped into!

I groaned out when the very devil himself peek his head out of the car's window with his face as dark as the color of his suit he was wearing right now.

"Are you two coming with me or gusto niyo munang magyapusan muna diyan till you froze to death???" Camw his grumpy voice with pursed lips.

I was about to open my mouth for a spat but before I could even do so, Mason answered him.

"We're coming with you, Cameron! Halika na Samantha!" Then without waiting for my response, he suddenly grabbed my right hand then dragged me to the car. He opened the door at the backseat saka niya ko pinapasok.

Then after I get in, he'd quickly headed to the other side then comfortably sat beside me.

"Okay.. We're all set now!" Mason happily exclaimed while clapping his hands like some child excited for candies.

Agad namang umandar ang sasakyan then we're off to God knows where del Toro usually stayed everytime he's here.

Blowing out a breath, I just focused on watching Mason's childish reaction as soon as the car moved.

So Mr. Del fuero was surrounded with good friends like Liam and this man, I wonder why he still have this bipolar behavior...

And having no answer for that, sumandal na lang ako sa ulian ko and then shifted my gaze to the road. My brow arched up when my eyes caught something at the rear view mirror. Or shall I say, someone.

Someone like the bipolar bastard staring at----wrong, Sam, 'glaring' should be the right term for that dahil sa tingin na ipinupukol nito sa'kin ngayon, I wonder why I'm still here and not ten feet below Canada's ground.

My lips automatically thinned in line as I gave him a 'do-you-want-me-to-prick-some-dagger-in-your-eyes' kind of look. He just slowly shook his head saka tumingin na sa ibang direksyon.

I wonder why he was giving me that look now, as if he wanted to give me a sermon kung kaming dalawa lang siguro ang nandito ngayon. Huh! As if I'd even give him the luxury to do that.

I just gave that a nonchalant shrug then stayed silent throughout the ride while blankly staring outside the window.

"Come out now, Sam! Nandito na tayo."

When I heard that from Mason, I quickly unbuckled my seatbelt then got out of the car.

Pagkalabas ko, agad na'kong lumapit rito but suddenly stopped as my eyes widened in surprised when I spotted the Hotel name of the building standing so tall and proud behind him.

Holy moly!! Does this mean---

"Na nandito tayo sa isa sa mga hotel ni Liam? Yes, you're right, Samantha. We really are dahil dito lagi naglalagi si Cameron every time he have business here." He answered my mind's question with a nod, probably reading my thoughts as amazement was clearly written in my face.

"Kaya pumasok na tayo sa loob ngayon before your boss would throw a tantrum. Tiyak hindi mo gugustuhing makita 'yon, Sam. I tell you." Pagpapatuloy nito sabay lapit sa'kin.

His hand found the small of my back then quickly guided me to the entrance way.

The act would've surprised me kung wala akong tiwala sa captain na'to but since I felt comfortable around him, kaya naman hinayaan ko lang ito.

Pagkapasok namin sa lobby, we were greeted with Canadian people. Some were comfortably seating at the lounge seats with either books and magazine in their hands. There were also foreign people busy dragging their luggages to Godknows where their hotel rooms located at.

I noticed na halos lahat ng nakikita Kong employees ay mga pinoy.. Hmm buti naman kung ganun,parang nasa pinas lang...

Dumiretso na kami sa may elevator and waited for a few moment there with the other people before a 'ding' had sounded. Agad na kaming sumakay and let Mason pressed the floor number kung saan kami bababa.

My brow instantly arched up when he pressed the top floor, the 45th fucking floor of this building!

Holy Gods... Sa lahat ba namang floor na pipiliin na taong yon, he really had chosen the last floor!! I just hope na maganda ang pinili nitong room para sa'kin because if not, I don't know what I would do to him! I could really kill him for that kung hindi.

Sighing in frustration, I leaned against the wall with crossed arm while blankly glaring at the elevator door, glaring at it like I was glaring at him.

Dapat nga siguro, hindi ko na pinilit na sumama pa sa trip na'to dahil tiyak magsisisi lang ako pag kasama ko ang kuripot na 'yon.

That stingy-miserly-maggot!

"You okay?"

When Mason asked that with a tap in my hand, I just nodded and gave him a tight smile for reassurance when I saw his slightly worried look on his face.

Hindi naman ito sumagot and just nodded his head. Mga ilang sandali lang, we've finally reached our floor with no one but ourselves left inside the elevator.

I don't think may iba pang gustong magstay sa top floor except the stingy del fuero himself. When we got out of the elevator, I just followed Mason to where he was heading.

The top floor was only composed with a few rooms and I doubted if it was even occupied by humans and not some brooms, mops and cobwebs. Or maybe junk items like his brain.

Large sized paintings and pictures of either men and sceneries were hanged on the walls. I just ignored it and kept following the captain. May mas kailangan pa'kong dapat pagtuunan ng pansin ngayon than thought about those Artwork. To have my bed and sleep till evening.

Just the thought of bed, a yawn escaped from me. Suddenly felt exhausted being airborne that long.

After a few moment of just kept walking, Mason finally stopped in front of a----

I frowned when I noticed the slightly small in sized door with no room number on it.

Oh no. Pagod na pagod na yata ako to even start seeing things so small now.. Hmmm...

So tired to even be bothered about it, I just shrugged about it and waited for the door to open instead when Mason knocked on it.

Mga ilang sandali lang, the door had opened and then the bastard appeared with his loosened tie and a scowl was on his face, obviously he was just about to take his rest.

"What??" He barked the moment he'd open the door.

"Hinatid ko lang dito si Samantha since you just left her down there without even telling her where her room is." Mason quickly informed him with a disapproval tone.

Yes! That's right, Mason. Give that bastard a---

"But then you have brought her here, Mason. You know this is my room and only me can stay here so go away! Find your own room there!." Then he was about to shut the door but fortunately, I was quick enough to block it with my hand which caused his lips thinned in line.

I felt like my sleepiness suddenly jumped out of the window the moment I've heard him shooing me away, as if I was just some dog lost in nowhere and unfortunately met this man! Kailangan ko ng matulog and no one,not even him can stop me from doing it!

"What do you mean na humanap ako ng sarili kong kwarto,Mr. Del fuero? Shouldn't you have provided me one for your employee??"

His brows just arched up as in response while me an 'are-you-serious' look.

"Hindi ka pa naman siguro nababaliw, ano? You know 'I' " he firmly said with emphasis in the 'I' part.

"I didn't tell you to come with me and it was just you, Ms. Javier. So you better go book your own room and never disturb my peace of mind."

Can I shoot him in his balls now? Can I???

Halos nagpupuyos nako sa galit ngayon dahil dun. How could he just treat me like this!

"Bro, 'wag ka namang ganyan..."Mason trailed off when his murderous gaze shifted to him, probably intimidated with how scary he look.

"Take her out of here, Mason. Kung gusto mo, you can book her a room anywhere in this building but not this floor, I don't want someone to pester me around while I'm here." sabi nito with his glare now directed on me.

"Trouble is her middle name, kaya naman wag na wag mong ilapit man lang sa'kin ang babaeng yan!"

"Then fine. I'll go book my own room then!" I snapped, not wanted to hear any humiliating words from him with Mason listening beside me.

He want me to be away from him? Then fine. I'll gladly give it to him.

With pleasure! But not without his black card!

"Okay, fine. I'll go find my own room. Wala namang problema sa'kin 'yon. But before you die inside your room, " Then I held out my hand at him.

Agad namang kumunot ang noo nya when he saw my expectant palm, his gaze then moved up to me with puzzled look in his eyes.

"And what's with that hand ??"

"Of course, your card Mr. Del fuero. How can I find my own room kung wala naman akong pambayad di ba? So hand it to me now dahil kailangan ko ng matulog. " I said, holding out my hand more higher which caused his already thinned lips formed in a thinnest line as he stared at me with while disagreement written all over his face.

"Are you nuts, Ms. Javier? Ba't ko naman ibibigay sa'yo ang card ko when I don't give a damn kung saan ka man pupunta o matutulog.---"

"Cam, ba't 'di mo nalang kaya patuluyin dito si Samantha? That way, hindi mo na kailangan pang magbook ng ibang room at madali mo lang siyang matatawag -----"

" NO!" Agad na putol nito kay Mason which caused my brow to shot up with his sudden reaction.

As if he had heard the most absurd idea in his entire life.

Oh yes. That was indeed an absurd idea but I think it has some sense. My mind slightly considered that idea and weighed the advantages once I'd share a room with him.

Perks? Well, an easy access to his things and monitor whatever he was up to. Plus, I won't spend any cent for my stay here.. Ang kailangan ko lang gawin is to secure myself from him.

Hmmm.... A good idea indeed.

"I would never allow that preposterous thing happened, Mason!! Hindi mo lang alam kung anong kapahamakan ang dala ng babaeng to sa'kin kaya hinding-hindi ko mapapayagan 'yang sinasabi mo!" He added then turned to me with locked jaw.

"Pay your own bills, Ms. Javier and never expect me to shoulder it dahil hinding-hindi mangyayari yon, not even in your dreams. Leave now!" Then again, isasara na naman sana nito ang pinto but this time, Mason was the one who had stop it.

"Then shall I take her with me in my condo instead and let her stay there for free, Cam?"

Pagkarinig ko dun, my head was snapped to his way as my brows almost overlapped each other, surprised with his statement.

To his condo? Nagbibiro ba ang taong 'to? How can he offer to adopt me when he'd just know me a few hours ago???

"Ah, Mason? Tingin ko magiging pabigat lang ako sa'yo once I'd stay there...." Usisa ko rito, still askance with his idea.

He just gave me a wink and a playful smirk before he uttered an answer.

"No, Samantha. I'd be glad kung doon ka muna sa condo ko than you spend much here. Liam's hotel surely worth a gold kaya dun kana muna. It's all free." He reasoned out then turned to his bastard friend.

"What do you think, Cameron? Hindi mo naman siya patutuluyin dito or even book her a room so it's be better if he'd stay with me. She'll be safe there." He reassured at his friend na tahimik lang na nakatingin kay Mason.

I just ignored him and try to consider the captain's idea.

"I think you've got a point, Mason. Tingin ko nga mas magandang dun na muna ako. That if I can't disturb you---"

"You'll disturb him for sure, not just him, but him and his women, Ms. Javier."

That made me snapped my head to Mr. Del Fuero's way with wide eyes.

"W-Women? What do you mean his women??? " I asked in confusion as my questioning gaze shifted from him to the scowling captain beside me, obviously against with his friend's sudden comment about his 'dirty' lifestyle.

"Wag kang maniwala diyan, Sam. I am not in a mood to do that thing right now. So rest asurred na wala kang madidisturbo---"

"Stopped right there, Captain. I think that's enough." Saway ko rito, cutting off whatever he was about to disclose that I would never want to hear the details about it. Godknows what kind of details is that.

"I guess I have to stay somewhere--"

"No, Sam. I won't allow that. Baka ano pang mangyari sa'yo. Well, kung gusto mo naman, you can just occupy my room and I'll take the couch in the sala to reassure you that 'Cameron'" he said with emphasis and a glare to the silent and scowling Del Fuero.

"was just bluffing you." He continued.

I gave Mason's idea a deep thought.

Okay naman siguro 'yon. Parang mapagkakatiwalaan naman 'to since he's a friend of Liam and this silent del fuero who just kept giving me an unknowing look now, looking at me like he was sending a cryptic message to me.

Oh bother! The hell with his stare and his messages. I have no time to decode that message right now. I'm in a midst of considering some good offer from the Captain.

"Well, kung ganun naman pala, then I guess I have to go with you. I can just beat you up anyway if you ever made a move on me while I'm asleep." I agreed after a few moment of giving it a thought while slowly nodding at him..

"Gusto ko na ein namang matulog ngayon so yes. Let's just go to your condo then."

"Yes. That's right. So we can still take a short rest. May lakad pa naman tayo mamaya and we need enough energy for later."he agreed with obvious excitement glinting in his eyes.

I just nodded at him and gave him a small smile. Yes. May lakad nga pala kami mamaya. A night out with no Del fuero barking around.

"Okay. We're all set now. So Cam, hihiramin ko muna ang secretary mo okay? Aalagaan ko naman siya ng mabuti and----"

"No."

"I'll make sure to return her to you with intact limbs so don't worry. Kilala mo naman---"

"I said no, Mason."

Mason suddenly shut his mouth saka tumingin sa kanya with puzzled look when Mr. Del Duero hissed that with a stoic face.

"Wait, what? No? Anong ibig mong sabihin, Cam?" Naguguluhang tanong ni Mason sa kanya with furrowed brows, mirroring my own as we've looked at him with questioning eyes.

Is he some nuts? O mas lalo lang lumuwag ang turnilyo nito?

"Just no. You can't take her with you." He cryptically answered without even a tinge of emotion can be found on his face. Just a big NO boldly carved on his forehead.

Sending him an annoyed look, I voiced out my own concern habang kibit ang mga balikat.

"Can you at least explain kung anong 'No' yang pinagsasabi mo, Mr. Del Fuero? I want my own bed now at gusto ko ng makapagpahinga ngayon. Kaya kung pwede, linawin mo naman yang pinagsasabi mo!" inis na saad ko with gritted teeth while holding my breath.

"She's right, Cam. What do you mean by 'no', bro?"

Unfortunately, the bastard didn't answered and just gave us a cold hard glare with his jaw kept twitching again, as if he was in pain but he just don't want to let it be known.

And I don't have a day to decode whatever pain is that. Sleeping is my first priority right now so I'll just see him later kung okay na ang turnilyo ng taong ito.

Letting out a frustrated sigh, my eyes rolled upward as I shook my head in resignation.

"Okay, since hindi ka naman sumasagot then I guess, we have to leave it that way. Let's go now, Captain. He's just wasting our time here. "

"Yes. Buti pa nga. Bye now, bro." Mason agreed with a wink and a stupid grin, sabay tapik sa tahimik lang na kaibigan nito who just kept giving us a protesting look.

"Sleep well, bro. See you in three days!"

I didn't bid him a good bye. I'am not in a mood to be good right now, Especially to him.

With that, I quickly turned on my heels to leave. Pero isang hakbang palang ang nagagawa ko when a certain strong hand suddenly grabbed the collar of my jacket behind me, alarming the hell out of me.

"What the--!"

Pero bago ko pa matapos ang iba ko pang sasabihin, nahila na'ko ng tuluyan papasok sa madilim na lugar na nasa likurako.

"Cameron! What the hell are you----"

But the bastard had unfortunately shut the door before Mason could even finish his protest. Leaving only the two of us inside of that dark room.
