Double Date

"Please Summer. Let's talk. Five minutes… no... three will do. Just hear me out."

"Liam, everything is clear to her. She doesn't need to hear what you have to say. Leave it! Please!" Liza spoke in my stead.

I didn't look back. We just kept on walking until we reached the pond. My tears flowed. Liza looked at me. "What now?"

"It hurts! I don't know why it hurts so much." I sobbed.

"It's okay. You just have to stop seeing him for a while and everything will be okay. Once you move on from him, you will stop crying over him and you will find that he is not attractive at all. That you fell in love with an ugly guy."

I laughed with her words. "You know he is not ugly. How can I move on from him when he was never mine to begin with."

"Exactly! He was never yours. So what are you crying about? You will find a more attractive man than him in the future. Don't waste your tears over him. If he doesn't want you, it's his loss."

I avoided Liam like plague. There is no reason to be close to him now. It will only leave me hurting. Evelyn and my family are good. My mum and dad are okay with Liam, well, they didn't know what happened. But whenever he is there with his mum, I tend to stay in my bedroom as soon as we finish dinner.

It went on for weeks and weeks to months. We had become strangers to each other, well, that's how he is to me and it seemed like he is now fine with it. James and I had become inseparable, well, what I mean is we are texting each other from morning til' night. He got used on my way of texting and I got used to his, though every now and again he would complain.

Evelyn invited us for Liam's birthday. She said it's just a small gathering as Liam is not into a big celebration. Only close family and friends are coming. Since my parents are going I have to go as well. It was Evelyn who invited us anyway, so I guess I should go. Angel will be there for sure, after all, she is his girlfriend. I thought I had moved on from him, but obviously not completely. It still hurts whenever I recall what she said.

My parents went to buy a present for Liam and they told me to get something for him too. I went to browse in the shopping mall with Joey a week before Liam's birthday. We entered shops after shops and I can't find what I want to give him. To be honest I don't really know what to give him.

Joey complained that he was hungry. McDonald's was the closest to us at that time so I dragged him there to buy food. He ordered one of their signature burgers and I settled with a box of chicken nuggets. As we sat there to eat, someone sat on the chair next to me.

It was Angel. "Hello, Summer! We meet again." her smile was as big as a curve banana. "Liam, we should join them. What do you want to eat? I'll go and get it for us."

He was just standing there refusing to sit with us. I'm resisting to look at him. I felt like he was staring at me as if I did something wrong.

Joey cheerfully invited him to sit next to him, "Hey… why don't you sit with us?"

With a frown on my face, I stared at Joey. Liam sat down next to him. Angel asked him again, "So what do you want to eat?"

"What do you want? I'll go and get it." as Liam said that, I couldn't resist it anymore, I glanced at him and he has a smile on his face while looking at her.

"Can you get me grilled chicken salad please." she sweetly replied to Liam.

Liam left and this bitch next to me started to talk to us. "It's nice to have a double date. Do you guys want to watch a movie with us?"

Joey didn't hesitate to reply, "Sure! Double date you say? Are you and Liam…"

He looked at me, I can sense his curiosity. Liam came back with their food. He got a box of chicken nuggets too.

"We are watching a movie, the four of us!" Angel excitedly announced to Liam.

Liam didn't react. The awkwardness was in the air. It's difficult to eat now that they are here with us. "It's okay. Maybe you two should go. We are o—," Liam didn't let me finish what I was saying. He glared at me and smiled right after, "Movies it is then!"
